Apparently that's real:

More than 85m beneath the famous fairy chimneys of Cappadocia lies a massive subterranean city that was in near-constant use for thousands of years.

Violent gusts whipped loose soil into the air as I hiked through Cappadocia's Love Valley. Pink- and yellow-hued hillsides coloured the rolling landscape scarred with deep red canyons, and chimneystack rock formations loomed in the distance. It was arid, hot, windy and devastatingly beautiful. Millennia ago, this volatile, volcanic environment naturally sculpted the spires surrounding me into their conical, mushroom-capped shapes, which now draw millions of visitors to hike or hot-air balloon in the central Turkish region.

But beneath Cappadocia's crumbling surface, a marvel of equally gargantuan proportions lay hidden away for centuries; a subterranean city that could conceal the whereabouts of up to 20,000 inhabitants for months at a time.

The ancient city of Elengubu, known today as Derinkuyu, burrows more than 85m below the Earth's surface, encompassing 18 levels of tunnels. The largest excavated underground city in the world, it was in near-constant use for thousands of years, changing hands from the Phrygians to the Persians to the Christians of the Byzantine Era. It was finally abandoned in the 1920s by the Cappadocian Greeks when they faced defeat during the Greco-Turkish war and fled abruptly en masse to Greece. Not only do its cave-like rooms stretch on for hundreds of miles, but it's thought the more than 200 small, separate underground cities that have also been discovered in the region may be connected to these tunnels, creating a massive subterranean network.

According to my guide, Suleman, Derinkuyu was only "rediscovered" in 1963 by an anonymous local who kept losing his chickens. While he was renovating his home, the poultry would disappear into a small crevasse created during the remodel, never to be seen again. Upon closer investigation and some digging, the Turk unearthed a dark passageway. It was the first of more than 600 entrances found within private homes leading to the subterrestrial city of Derinkuyu.

BREAKING: Colleague @davidspunt reports via two sources familiar that there is an ongoing DOJ "aggressive criminal investigation" into Daniel J. Sullivan appearing on the ballot for US Senate in Alaska, and the investigation has intensified in the wake of the bombshell NYT report today.

DOJ sources tell David that multiple grand jury subpoenas will be issued in the coming hours and days, and there are preservation orders to cell phone companies that are being prepared regarding text messages and emails that may build a timeline for how Daniel J. Sullivan was placed on the ballot.

The investigation is being handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Alaska and federal prosecutors are interested in potential charges relating to the depravation of rights of Alaska voters. The investigation is expected to go beyond Election Day and has been underway for several months.

Lawyer-client privilege. Democrats use law firms to hide dirty political jobs. Reason why Marc Elias worked at Perkins Cooie before they parted ways. Perkins Cooie reported had its own SCIF where Democrat operatives who were also contractors for the FBI used NSA and other classified databases to spy on GOP members of Congress, GOP political operatives, donors etc.

Smith took it a step further during his quest to put Trump in jail and included even people buying MAGA hats and small time donors number thousands of people.

Democrats are basically using national security databases to spy on GOP and anyone getting in their way. And corrupt pieces of shit GOPe operatives like former senator from NC Richard Burr knew this (Senate intel chair and ranking member before retiring). Burr kept quiet because he used similar data to get his family generational wealth through trading and investments.

We know Maxwell was also an intel asset for at least two spy agencies, mebbe three. CIA and MI-6 used him and his academic publishing company as a conduit to Leonid Brezhnev as Maxwell published some of Brezhnev's writings and as a result Maxwell got to spend alone time with him.

Given his state funeral in Israel attended by high ranking officials of Israel after his death, would not be surprised that he was a Mossad asset on occasion as well.

Ghislaine is just the type that would slide into Maxwell's role.

The Murdoch family probably also has intel ties. Rupert had a Hong Kong wife, Wendi Deng, at one time, had Saudi Prince bin Talal as a major silent investor, and Mick Jagger's ex Jerry Hall among others. Now married to a former Russian. Dumped a fiance in between hall and the Russian due to the fiance being a strong Christian which gave Rupert heebie jeebies.

Translated from Hebrew
Likud:
The elections in the State of Israel were stolen by Arab parties that support terrorism and the elimination of the Jewish state through serious criminal offenses of bribery, threats, violence, forgeries, and the use of prohibited software to mobilize voters.

The Likud party is transferring to the police, the Shin Bet, and the
Central Elections Committee hundreds of testimonies and pieces of evidence

envelopes with cash and Ra'am slips, threats and violence against polling station members, multiple voting behind the curtain, voting with double identities, discrepancies between the number of envelopes and the number of voters, the use of prohibited mobilization software, and more.

We demand from the police and the Shin Bet a thorough investigation into the election theft by the Arab parties and the full prosecution of the criminals.

We demand from the Central Elections Committee an immediate response to investigate these criminal offenses that have severely damaged the integrity of the elections in Israel and the election results.

The parties are aimed at grifting and destruction of the Jewish state. Sooner or later, the Arabs figure the left will get desperate enough to join with the Arabs to get a majority coalition.

Like the West in general, Israel had some leftists with a death wish.

173 Thanks Ben Had, yep, what we call absentee they call double-envelope (for a similar arrangement with the registration info outside, "privacy" envelope with ballot inside).

Thanks Braenyard, meant to post that Bibi statement. It's pretty strong and specific by Israeli standards. Reports that Israeli intel/LE tracking down the source of the payments. Not entirely clear on Bibi's implication here. Most Arab Israelis vote for Arab parties, historically. So he either means bribed to vote, period, or bribed to vote for one particular Arab party.

Think preliminary estimate for turnout was in high 70s%.

193 "What are Druze? Are they muslim or something else?"

A question left open pretty intentionally by the Druze themselves. Pretty rational approach over the centuries of various sects over-running the area. In Israel the Druze are well integrated some of the few Arabs who serve in police and IDF. Bibi made a fairly explicit public security guarantee to the Druze of southern Syria - who often demonstrate with Israeli flags and portraits of Bibi. Obviously there's zero trust, or should we say an abundance of caution, with regard to the new Syrian regime.

Bedouin Arabs also serve in the IDF. Some of the Israeli heroes of 10/7 were Druze and Bedouin.

The Druze speak Arabic and follow a variant of Islam, but they're always categorized separately from Arabs. Unfortunately for them, they're few in number and scattered across Lebanon, Israel, and Syria. In Israel, the Druze are about 2% of the population and participate fully in society, even being subject to the draft at the request of their community (made sometime in the '50s, IIRC).

Have read at least twice about young girls getting into a car alone with a strange man, thinking he was their lyft or uber driver.

I have to assme they both were totally inebriated. Both guys said my name after they rolled down the rearview mirror. You get notification with a photo of the car, etc.

A real stupid way to die, girls.

There is literally no reason or defense for electronics involved in the voting process (possibly in checking registrations or IDs, but not in the voting or tabulation itself). It's one of the most absurd and pernicious indefensible things in the world today, which is a high bar.

Do know that there should be no software or electronics of any kind involved with the voting process. At most, electro-mechanical card readers. Paper ballots. Hand counts (except for the case just mentioned).

There is literally no reason or defense for electronics involved in the voting process (possibly in checking registrations or IDs, but not in the voting or tabulation itself). It's one of the most absurd and pernicious indefensible things in the world today, which is a high bar.

Here are some allegations: " cash-filled envelopes containing Ra'am ballot slips, threats and violence against polling station staff, multiple voting, voting under different identities, and discrepancies between the number of envelopes and the number of voters"...so just like Detroit, Chicago, or LA...peak Democracy! I guess they might have laws agains certain type of computerized electioneering, like we have against certain type of electioneering at polling stations. I guess we shall see!

255 gp, that's what I was referring to. Properly used - and always backed-up by a hand count if needed - punch cards and readers offer no potential for f***ery.

Recall (well, it's a closely held secret, if you quizzed the country) that the initial final result announced by the FL SecState election night *was in fact the correct result*. Subsequent independent recounts confirmed this.

Those kinds of machines can be checked and calibrated without limit. Their accuracy can be checked constantly. Their results cannot be altered electronically.

One of the things that made the FL case a fiasco, and which ultimately led to SCOTUS shutting it all down, was the ridiculous idea of "curing" or figuring out voter intent. Nope. Never. The fucking voter has 100% responsibility to vote properly. Period. Election officials aren't even clerks, they're automatons. Any unclear or improperly marked/punched ballot is either void in its entirety, or those sections improperly done are void.

Those who want to be able to steal elections want to have such outrages as "curing", etc. included. Nope. Self-disenfranchisement of a voter by his own errors is not a public interest.

Ok...over the years and other recipes I've perfected it but will try the crock pot o' onions this winter mentioned Sunday. Also a trick to carmelize the onions in the oven vs stirring. I've always used sliced red onions as that was the original I tried as a newlywed.

Once you have your onions carmelized & are adding beef broth, add at least 1/2 cup white wine as well. You can also use wine to deglaze the pan of onions as more wine never hurt anyone. Add herbes de provence. I never measure, but about .5-1 TBS to to your taste.

Before adding the onions/broth to the oven-proof soup bowl, put 1 TBS cognac or brandy on the bottom of the bowl & proceed with onions/broth and slice of bread and shredded Guyere cheese til it browns in broiler.

I don't know what magic the cognac does, but it works for me.

But what is that based on? Go ahead, try to find a single contemporaneous source talking about Mohammed. There are none. Gibbon pointed this out more than 200 years ago. It's a known problem.

Pick a conqueror. There's always some dude who had dinner with him. The Byzantine Empire was a thing, and do you think some Greek dude wasn't dying to meet the guy ravaging the eastern provinces? Do you think the great conqueror didn't want to have his story told by his enemies? We have first-hand accounts of Atilla the Hun at dinner. Why are there zero accounts of Mohammed doing...anything?

It's funny how there are still retarded "Akshually, Jesus didn't exist" articles when Mohammed is much more problematic.

Oh, and why did "Islamic era" coins still have Christian symbols on them?

Well, kinda. I do have a history major focusing on the Middle Ages.

But the burden of proof is on Islamic scholars, not on me. Show me the documents! Edward Gibbon exposed all of this more than two centuries ago. Are you saying Gibbon didn't do research into ancient sources? That he didn't know Greek or Latin?

Every frickin' Easter some retarded atheist scholar says Jesus didn't exist, and we have to dump the immense volume of material showing that He did. Not just the Gospels but Roman records that are far from favorable.

No such scrutiny is given to Mohammed. It's time we stopped being pussies and just called the whole thing out: show us this guy. Meet the Jesus standard of proof.

285 Jack...you are very welcome. We love it also.

I love fall/winter and cooking. Am not a summer cook with any enthusiasm.

Fall/winter/snow does it for me. I must be a throwback to Scots Highlanders as my love of mountains and snow has baffled my entire family in MS since I went to college here. I'm Scots-Irish-French-English.

I loved living 1/4mi from the Atlantic for 20yrs (and 1/4mi from the Intracoastal Waterway aka Indian River) in FL. Great place to raise our babies and we moved there when they were 2yrs and newborn. Baby took his first steps in the sand. The second he heard the surf he was out for a nap before he got to the beach. It was grand to live on that barrier island.

However, the mountains are what we love most. And we're back for 11yrs after meeting 50yrs ago this month in college.

I plan to make many soups, stews, etc as the frost should be on the pumpkins soon. We used to get our first snow below the high peaks in early November (there's snow up there now). Gorgeous. Ski country.

Yep. That's what we missed the first autumn in FL. The seasons are subtle there. January/February gorgeous.

Moved there for his job and to be a bit closer to my parent's farm in MS...a 13hr drive. We'd go twice a year and they'd fly to us twice a year. Worth it as my boys got to know my grandmother's and aunts and my family.

We missed these mountains badly. Love FL but love it here more.

I know RI is beautiful. It's too bad our former SIL is such a weirdo and tossed us aside when MIL died (actually before she died). She's of the uber snotty kind of Rhode Islander, for reasons unknown, as her family, to my knowledge, were not of the upper crust in Newport to sneer at us. As far as I know Kingstown. It is all very weird on her part.

I insulted her once (without meaning to) asking if it was spelled Kingston like Charleston. She went off, man. hic Probably during my college daze. Her husband, my late BIL, loved me and that's all that counts. We shared a lot of laughs while she had migraines at family parties here.
