Can You Name These Women’s Shoe Styles? A Fun Fashion Quiz

By request, this quiz tests how well you know the classics and the everyday icons. For each shoe below, read the description, look at the picture and pick the correct name from the list. Answers are at the end—no peeking!

The names: Kitten heels • Espadrilles • Stilettos • Pumps • Slingbacks • Wedges • Mules • Mary Janes • Platform heels • Ballet flats • Ankle booties • Loafers • Peep-toes • D’Orsays

The Quiz

1. A classic closed-toe shoe with a low-to-mid or high heel, smooth upper, and no straps or buckles across the instep. It slips on easily and defines polished elegance.

IMG_3130-rr.jpg

What is it?

2. Extremely thin, tall heel (usually 3–4+ inches) that creates a dramatic, leg-lengthening line. Often with a pointed or almond toe.

IMG_3131-rr.jpg

What is it?

3. Short, curved, slender heel typically 1–2 inches high. Softer and more wearable than a full stiletto while still giving a feminine lift.

IMG_3132-rr.jpg

What is it?

4. Open-back shoe with a strap that wraps around the back of the heel. The defining feature is that rear strap.

IMG_3133-rr.jpg

What is it?

5. Canvas (or fabric) upper attached to a thick, braided rope sole. Often flat or lightly wedged with a summery vibe.

IMG_3134-rr.jpg

What is it?

6. Continuous solid heel that slopes from the front of the sole to the back—no separate heel piece. Known for comfort and stability.

IMG_3135-rr.jpg

What is it?

7. Open-back shoe with no strap or covering around the heel. You simply slide your foot in.

IMG_3136-rr.jpg

What is it?

8. Closed-toe style with a single strap across the instep (often with a buckle). The strap is the signature detail.

IMG_3137-rr.jpg

What is it?

9. Thick platform sole under the ball of the foot combined with a high heel for extra height and a bold silhouette.

IMG_3138-rr.jpg

What is it?

10. Soft, low-profile flat with a rounded or slightly pointed toe and a flexible sole.

IMG_3139-rr.jpg

What is it?

11. Ankle-height boot that covers the ankle bone, often with a zipper, elastic, or buckle.

IMG_3140-rr.jpg

What is it?

12. Slip-on shoe with a low heel or flat sole, often casual yet polished.

IMG_3141-rr.jpg

What is it?

13. A style (usually a pump or heel) with an open front that reveals the toes. The “peek-a-boo” cutout is the defining feature.

IMG_3142-rr.jpg

What is it?

14. A elegant pump or heel where the sides are cut away low, creating an open, curved silhouette along the arch. Named after a 19th-century French countess.

IMG_3143-rr.jpg

What is it?

It is difficult to accept that so many people actually believe the "Diversity is our Strength" lie. 32 Evening, Sunday nighters!

ABC'sSunday Night Movie is Ghostbusters. It's wonderful to see again -- except the network has cut it up to fit a two-hour time slot. The continuity is pretty much okay. But we are losing little things like "Back off, man, I'm a scientist," Peter offering Egon a candy bar, and the exchange where we first see that Janine likes Egon ("I collect spores, molds, and fungus"). Some of the character and charm is missing, in other words, especially when you know the dialog and scenes as a true fan.

Ah, well. Its been a quiet day. How about yours?

33 I could barely tolerate high heel shoes in my later school years. Now my feet want the 'barefoot' style shoes and will tolerate a lace up low hiking boot for riding and one pair of nice wider toe cowboy boots I found a couple years ago that are nice to slip on to do chores. Winter is best, I have a pair of comfy lightly insulated muck type boots that slip right on and are comfy. They are a cheap brand from TSC but have cute polka dots and are comfy.

39 Kylie Cantrall sang the anthem for World Series Game 2. She's a sweet, young actress and singer - 19 I think now.

She had a fantastic show on DisneyChannel "Gabby Duran and the Unsittables" where she babysat alien kids. Cute, funny show. On Instagram, she said she got a call 48 hours before the game to sing.

She just finished a concert tour but wasn't going to pass that up. She also had videos of herself doing ab work at 7am so she likes showing that off...

3 minutes anthem....

48 Evening, Doof, and ONT Horde. Pic up top looks like it could have been taken near Mayo, Yukon.

Frustrating shop day today. The stupid little Honda generator continues to defeat my efforts to make it start. No spark, at all. I know now it is not the oil level switch, nor the on/off switch, no the exciter coil, nor the ignition coil, nor the spark plug. Probably not the ignition pulse generator, although I cannot rule it out 100%. Leaves just the ignition module, or "spark unit" as Honda calls it. $379 on Amazon. Nope, nope, nope. Under a hundred bucks on eBay. Still a "Nope" for a part I cannot be certain is bad, and which is non-returnable.

The pulse generator does kick out a couple hundred mV of AC when it is triggered. So a plan has been formed. Connect pulse generator to a GM 4-pin HEI module, which I should have several of on hand. Drive ignition coil off HEI module, using an external 12 volt battery as a power source. See if plug sparks.

_______________________

I'm going to file a protest on this one. I'm pretty sure "slingbacks" are when a woman gets a little older and they hang down, screwing up her gardening, so she sling them over her shoulder...thus, slingbacks.

Now, ask me what an "ankle bootie" is.

59 Of course, my shoes are nice...I get the best pair of hiking or hunting boots I can afford, then wear them daily until the soles are smooth (no tread left) or they start smelling like I will definitely develop toenail fungus (or already have) if I keep wearing them.

My wife and daughters on the other hand...let's just say that if the cobbler's children HAVE shoes, it is beacause they can afford them due to doing business with us. One daughter seems obsessed with heels because they make her appear much taller than me...she is only really a little taller...ha!

I scooped this thing for nothing at the dump. I am not going to spend big dollars on it. If the HEI module makes it run, then maybe $79 for a "spark unit" would make some sort of sense, It's a black box that also includes warning lights to indicate output, overload, and low oil. Running on the HEI would basically confirm that the present spark unit is nfg.

67 Lynde was someone people only liked in small doses. Guest starring in some fussy role or a few quips on the Hollywood Squares, he was fine. ABC tried to star him in a sitcom in 1972, a Dad role. It was pretty awful. Pamelyn Ferdin played his daughter and she missed out on playing Edna Unger for a year when she was signed to the Lynde show. She didn't like him much because he was caranky and only ever called her "kid". She loved Randall and Klugman and they treated her like a niece.

I got all the shoes correct! Does this go on my permanent record?

Wish I had the thickest pack of index cards of my 200 student HS of stupid stuff, like talking in class, being late for class due to talking, &, the most worst horrible thing of all was my bf talking me into the Beta Club photo for the yearbook. I wasn't in the Beta Club.

I really got yelled at for that one! And had to pay for another picture (I should have asked for the rejected one as it was a really good photo of me). I just stared at Mr. M. as he yelled at me almost weekly. Breezed in and said hey to the secretary. I wasn't bombing anything or stabbing people! Big deal!

Just so you young whipper snappers know, I was rocking similar espadrilles like those above in the mid-seventies in hippie dresses during college. They made me 5'10" or so. I still have the hippie dress from when I caught my dude's eye. Couldn't wear it now, but I kept it for my granddaughter's...who I hope are not hippies or bad like me.

As I spent half of this day puny I have a LOT to do tomorrow and need to go to bed.

Have a great night! Rock on!

Anyway, this talk of couture reminds me of a scene in third episode in which a fairly attractive character walks out onto a patio but this time she's wearing a green outfit with hat and she is stunningly beautiful (maybe evil though). It seems clothes make the woman too.

Incidentally, something in this show I have not seen before. Of course, I need captions to translate into English. They also narrate the incidental music. "Tense strings, percussive piano."

Paul Lynde was more masculine than Obama.

75 I missed three on the shoes. Got one of them wrong which led to another which led to another.

I'll almost certainly never get one of 'em right (espadrilles) because... never heard of it before.

*yawn* *yaawn* Bedtimes, methinks. Hopefully I get the interview scheduled quickly tomorrow so I can plan what days to sub. Suspect they'll take their sweet time, alas.

76 Oh, it was hilarious, but Abdul, who is having trouble with black voters in Michigan was on MSNow late this afternoon on Al Sharpton's show.

The charm tour, such as it is, continues.

I'm not sure how much black Skeletor helped. Carville, white Skeletor, isn't a fan.

Oh wait, the miracle of AI. I just asked ChatGPT this...

President Obama gave a speech today for Abdul. Examine the transcripts. How many times did Obama talk about himself? How many times did he talk about Abdul?

Place your bets....

80 What the transcript shows:

References to Abdul by name
20
Counting “Abdul” and “Abdul's” in Obama's remarks, excluding speaker labels.

Personal stories about Obama
~8
Distinct anecdotes or passages, rather than individual pronouns.

How much did he actually talk about Abdul?
The speech ran about 41 minutes after Obama's introduction. His most concentrated discussion of El-Sayed came between approximately 23:26 and 30:46, when he discussed El-Sayed's policy positions, background, disagreements with Obama and Republican opponent Mike Rogers. He also endorsed El-Sayed at the beginning and end.

The distinction is that Obama mentioned Abdul by name about 20 times, but spent much of the speech discussing national politics and his criticisms of the Trump administration. He also referred to himself repeatedly, sometimes to explain his record and sometimes to draw comparisons with El-Sayed.

So, much of the speech was about Obama.
Grab a beer if you guessed correctly.

81 If you are worried, no, your memory is not failing you. The "Convoy" song on the video is the version used for the movie, and is not the one played on the radio or on the album.

Yeah, I was far more distressed about the Dead 'Fire on the Mountain' reference vs. Marshall Tucker, than about 'Convoy'.
