The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

Screenshot 2026-10-23 6.40.39 PM.png

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival there are a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Cottage Grove)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate. Praying is also welcome and appreciated.
2) Be kind. Be nice. Or at least don't get caught.
3) No! After the TXMoMe there is definitely no running with sharp objects.
4) May your weekend be great and your upcoming week a breeze.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

9/18 – Random Dave posted an update to his job progress. He is still looking for FT work, but has accepted a substitute teacher position (more flexibility for interviews, some income to slow the bleeding). He asks for prayers that the interview results he is waiting on will get back to him soon, especially if one is the “right job”. If any are “not the right job”, they would fall away soon and get back to him, and that if all of them are “not the right job”, the ‘right job” would show itself aggressively, so he doesn’t miss it! He also thanks the Horde and the folks at church for their prayers and support.
8/14 Update – Random Dave needs continued prayers for his job situation, that God would guide him to the right one soon, and also for prayers for M’s grandmother, who fell the other day and tore a ligament.
10/17 Update – Random Dave is very frustrated with his job hunt. He is not giving up, but asking God to please, PLEASE shine a spotlight on where he needs to be applying.
10/22 Update – M’s grandmother is healing well. She is mostly mobile now (on crutches), and occasionally has bouts of bad pain. They praise God for the healing and humbly request additional healing. Random Dave reports no real change on his job situation. He continues to pray for God to make the path known as he applies, and periodically deal with “good” interviews that end up going nowhere.

9/18 – Brother Tim posted that he has been overnight in his car more than indoors. He is convinced that his retirement/resignation was a severe error, a result of fatigue and depression. He asks for prayers.
10/17 – Bother Tim posted that he has been in the hospital for 3 weeks.

10/8 – D asks for blessings on the Texas MoMe participants, as they travel and as they enjoy the event – and especially blessings on the organizers.
10/20 Update – Prayers of thanksgiving that (it sounds like) everyone made it safely home again, and had a great time at the meetup.

10/10 – Just Some Guy asked for prayers for his former work colleague, who had a heart attack and stroke.

10/10 – Mile, okravangelist, requested prayers for Mama Publius, for grace and fortitude, and that she passes in her sleep. Mama Publius is in home hospice care.

10/14 – NR Pax requested prayers for a friend, whose husband died on 10/10 after a long illness.

10/17 – Pooky’s Girl posted that she is in the hospital, because Wee Pooky is threatening to come early at 30 weeks.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

16
Driving back to Houston on Sunday, I stopped at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Buffalo, TX for 9:00 Mass.

It was a shocking experience. A small, but lovely church. Novus Ordo Mass, but done ad orientem. No altar girls. No insipid music; indeed, no music at all. A Scripture reader not from the William Shatner school of recitation. A very good homily about punctuality (especially at Mass) and how it's an act of respect and charity to others. Plus an appeal to children to be a help to their parents. No handshaking. Nobody adopting the stupid orans position. A short Communion rail with many people kneeling and receiving on the tongue.

Usually, going to a Novus Ordo Mass is like checking off a box, a week-long renewal of anti-Hell insurance. But this was actually a spiritually refreshing experience.

"Via DataRepublican, we have learned that a group of Democratic governors, retired military and intelligence officers, and former USAID “color revolution” specialists, have for some time been plotting to pull off a color revolution in the United States. Or, to put it more precisely, they have been conspiring to overthrow the constitutionally elected government of the United States, and to replace the Constitution with something completely different."

26 The Leftie Devil is in the details:

"There’s a lot of data, including videos, recordings, transcripts of Signal chats, etc., but the gist is this: If the Democrats take the House and Senate (and maybe if they don’t), various leftist groups will stage violent protests, intended to press Trump into invoking the Insurrection Act and sending in troops. Once he does, Democratic governors in blue states will denounce his acts as illegal (whether they are or not) and mount resistance on various levels. The goal is to destabilize things enough that they can seize power and replace the Constitution."

29 I've noticed that people do tend to choose dogs who look sort of like them. Since cats are pretty much the same across breeds -- all *about* the same size and conformation, not like a Great Dane vs. a chihuahua vs. a bulldog -- only certain sleek humans resemble their cats. I'd be pleased if somebody told me I looked like Stirling, for instance.

Yes, a Persian is different from a Maine Coon, which is different from an Oriental breed. But they are all pretty much recognizable as cats.

Not if it's what the congregation should be doing. But the orans position is one for the priest, not the people. When people do it, it makes Mass look like a revival meeting.

54 If the seditionists are serious, they'll act regardless of the election outcome. Since their plot was exposed they might just be more willing to kick it off sooner rather than later and see how far it goes.

The one thing about it is that it goes off win, lose or draw. If they lose, riots. If they win, riots.

The feds can't just sit idle if that happens... which is what the seditionists are planning on.

Hadrian is merely criticizing a liturgical abuse by laity within the Catholic Church. The orans posture is supposed to be reserved for the priest(s) during Mass. It's a bit "inside baseball" within the Catholic Church; I'm not a fan of the laity assuming the orans posture, myself.

He's not making a criticism of Jewish liturgical practices.

***
Exhaustingly. She was willing to think about Missouri as a place -- but she wants to live in something like Springfield, which has 500K people in its metro area. That's almost as big and clogged with hominids as this place is. I want something smaller that's *near* all the amenities she and I want and need.

She promised to do some research about Springfield on the areas she's interested in, like museums, universities, and shopping venues. (We already know the city has them.) I fully expect her to give me some excuse this evening when I ask.

Anybody who lives near Springfield: What's it like? Are there outlying small communities within a short drive of busier areas?

68 From last night’s ONT, (after I had gone to bed) people were worrying about what happens when France becomes a caliphate. Basically worrying about France’s force de frappe: it’s nuclear weapons. Lot of worries about plutonium dust and a dirty bomb. If you keep the mass subcritical, the worry is more about heavy metal poisoning. People at Los Alamos would carry subcritical amounts of plutonium in a string bag. But if you bring two half critical amounts of the right isotopes together, you will die a lingering death of internal sunburn. Happened to two different somewhat careless researchers at Los Alamos. Of course the deaths were covered up for years after the war. Not a full explosion because the pieces won’t stick together, but bad enough. We studied the Manhattan Project my freshman year as a physics major.

Mr. Dmlw! greeted me at the door yesterday, then followed me around the house reciting the news of the week while I put stuff away and lavished attention on the dogs and set out food I brought home for dinner, and poured wine, and ate the food, and lavished more attention on the dogs.

And then he took a breather. LOL! So, I'm all caught up.

Popular uprising from people who say they can't even get out of bed due to psychic strain. Half the country not minding if cities in blue states get burned to the ground.

Also, a more diffuse power structure. An uprising in capitals like Paris, London or Berlin is different from one in NYC or LA.

"They stand on the shoulders of giants and bitch about the view" is too perfect for today's Democrats. And calling Hasan Piker an "Ankara baby" is gold wordplay.

Much as with Trump in 2020, I think the commies committed a grave error stealing his election.

80 Turnout. Turnout. Turnout.

"Seasoned pollster and commentator Frank Luntz warned CNN last week that flawed polling practices may be giving Democrats a false sense of security about the upcoming midterms and could crush their hopes of a blue wave.

"He outlined why voter turnout is the most important statistic in an election, then described how the polling industry has failed to ask the right questions to determine those numbers."

Here in Ohio, most of the Democrat electioneering is about about "data centers bad!!! ree!!!" and "corruption!!! ree!!!" and "end the war with Iran!!! ree!!!" There is one young black man running for a State Rep seat that is all about "defund the police" but he seems to very much a lone [public] voice among the Democrats here in my region of Ohio.

The Republicans are pretty much piggy-backing on No Taxes on Tips and Social Security, and Democrats are Crazy. I think the ad featuring Dr. Amy Acton's mom left a mark: the Donks don't like it at all.

I knew Acton was a lunatic from her behavior in 2020, I didn't know she was also a fabulist that created a back-story.

But, to your point, there are much smaller outlying communities all around it. It's generally a very nice area with lots of amenities. Within 2 hours of Branson and Lake of the Ozarks. But in terms of pace and/or crime, it's worlds away from NOLA. You should check it out.

Speaking of, the fam originally came from the Springfield area of the Ozarks. They decamped for Alaska 50 years ago for numerous reasons, not the least of which was that there was starting to be way too many fucking people in the Ozarks.

Lefties whine about "gentrification" in the cities, but they see nothing wrong with them invading formerly rural areas with their fucking condos and their fucking Starbucks and whatnot.

I promise you, Chows are not that smart, and definitely not athletic

lol I got my first when I lived in the city. my neighbor had a pair in his apartment and I never even knew he had dogs! they are nice and quiet.

walking my PUPPY (adorable btw) around town I had people (shady people) cross the street. that's how I knew I was on to something lol.

they are reesrved. they watch the house. they know their fam and protect their fam. I only had to see that once, with a very calm sweet girl when a "yute" lunged at me. Shocking. She scared the hell out of that guy. Super fast from 0-1000 as far as threat response.

meanwhile, I take them everywhere and make sure they are socialized, and never had a problem. you need a fairly strong persona (but not a strong hand as they are sensitive and hold grudges).

anyway! will never be without at least one.

113 "Do you plan on voting in the mid-term elections?"

People say a lot of things and often don't act.

Potential swings in Turnout are hard to "scientifically" predict, so they get ignored until after-the-fact.

The pros missed Trump winning in 2016. I didn't as I thought that White Non-College would turnout for Trump. I boosted their Turnout by 5% and had Trump winning with 300+ EVs.

Mid-terms are trickier, but I sense that the Silent Majority will get off their asses and vote.

Meanwhile, many loyal D voters who'd never vote for an R will stay home. Jews among others.

114 Wolfus - I lived in Springfield back in the 80s (Jr. High / HS time). Back then it was what we called an overgrown cow town with a rail yard. It has expanded outwards quite a bit and swallowed up much of the surrounding countryside, but there are plenty of small towns just down the road. I think there's a lot more to do now. Branson's tourism explosion changed things a lot.

117 "Hachikō was an akita, I believe."

Akitas are similar to Shibas, and share being intensely loyal. They look identical when they're young, but then the Akitas grow to be 5x.

Akitas were for the Samuari, Shibas for farmers.

118 > Joplin, MO, has 55K people or so. That looks good. There are colleges nearby, a mall too.

The terrain around Joplin is more Oklahoma-esque or Kansas-esque than Ozark-esque, however. If you want scenic hills and so on, you want to go southeast of Springfield, not west.

There are still some fairly backwoodsy places in Douglas County and Ozark County, not too far from Springfield.

Avoid Webster, Christian, Taney, and Stone Counties. Webster and Christian are just bedroom communities for Springfield/Greene County nowadays, and Taney and Stone have been eaten by the Branson behemoth.

Last while having brunch after Mass with the youngest grandson (the one that's discerning the priesthood), he made a comment "I don't see how you can be Liberal and be Catholic."
