Maryland Man Uses Sledgehammer to Behead Iwo Jima Statue at the Marines' Quantico Base

It's almost as if this illegal alien is trying to send us a message about his view of America as an enemy nation that needs to be conquered and pillaged.

statuehead.jpg

A 27-year-old man accused of using a sledgehammer to decapitate a soldier on the Iwo Jima statue and cause extensive damage to the monument at Marine Corps Base Quantico is living in the U.S. illegally, Fox News reports.

Fox News congressional correspondent Bill Melugin reported that multiple federal sources confirmed Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano is a Mexican national living in the country illegally. Melugin reported that Maldonado Soriano is a former Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient whose legal status expired earlier this year.

According to federal sources, Melugin said Maldonado Soriano entered the U.S. illegally in December 1999. He was granted temporary protection under the Obama administration's DACA immigration policy in 2014 and received multiple extensions, most recently from the Biden administration in 2024. Melugin reported that Maldonado Soriano lost his DACA status in August after it was not renewed by the Trump administration.

Officers responded around 10:13 p.m. Wednesday to the statue near Richmond Highway and Fuller Road in Quantico, where they found Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano, of Stafford, actively damaging the structure, according to police. Maldonado Soriano was quickly detained at the scene.

Damage to the monument, which included the removal of one depicted soldier's head along with additional destruction, is estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, police say.

Maldonado Soriano was arrested and charged with felony destruction of property, trespassing with intent to damage property, and felony injury to a monument.

So which is this one -- a Doctor or an Engineer?

Virginia is a sanctuary state now that the "moderate" CIA Wine-Aunt was elected to the governor's mansion. The leftwing lunatic and Soros DA Steve Descano of Fairfax County continues treating actual American citizens more harshly than illegal aliens, because he doesn't want to convict any illegal aliens of crimes for which they may be deported.

The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office in Virginia ignored at least 1,670 immigration detainers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement between 2023 and 2025, releasing criminal illegal immigrants back into the community instead of transferring them to federal custody, according to a new House Judiciary Committee report.

The interim staff report -- obtained by Fox News before its noon Tuesday release by the committee's Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security and Enforcement -- also accuses Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano of treating illegal immigrant defendants differently from similarly situated American citizens to limit their immigration consequences.

"This interim report provides evidence of the ways in which just one local jurisdiction has implemented policies that allow dangerous foreign nationals to reoffend and avoid deportation," the report, issued under House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Chair Tom McClintock, R-Calif., concluded.

"But Fairfax County and prosecutor Steve Descano are not outliers. They are indicative of a modern, radical, socialist Democrat Party that seeks to erase national borders and place illegal alien criminals ahead of law-abiding American citizens," the report added. "The policies supported by these Democrats, including sanctuary policies, will have negative and lasting consequences for Americans. The Committee and Subcommittee will continue to conduct oversight of these sanctuary policies to inform potential legislative reforms to better protect American communities."

The committee said a preliminary review of more than 1,100 criminal cases identified more than 100 previously unreported illegal immigrants who benefited from Descano's prosecutorial decisions. The report said Descano's office rarely pursued charges against illegal immigrants accused of crimes including driving under the influence, felony drug possession, felony grand larceny, shoplifting, fraud, trespassing, destruction of property and assaulting a law enforcement officer.

The committee accused Descano's office of "de facto" decriminalizing some offenses and said most of the defendants reviewed went on to reoffend, in some cases escalating to violent crimes and murder.

The report, titled "Fairfax County, Virginia: The dangerous consequences of sanctuary policies," also alleges that Descano misled Congress about the scope of his policies.

"The Biden-Harris Administration worked to weaken the first Trump Administration's efforts to hold sanctuary jurisdictions accountable for undermining immigration enforcement," the report read. "In addition to dropping federal litigation relating to sanctuary jurisdictions' policies, the Biden-Harris Administration's Justice Department, beginning in April 2021, no longer required jurisdictions to cooperate with ICE as a condition of receiving federal grant funding."

During testimony before the committee in May, Descano said his policy was "written with legal permanent residents in mind for minor crimes." But in a September letter, the committee said Descano acknowledged that prosecutors could consider immigration consequences in cases involving illegal immigrants as well.

Descano's campaign website previously stated that when "possible," his office would "make charging and plea decisions that limit or avoid immigration consequences." He also argued that "if two people commit the same crime, but only one's punishment includes deportation, that's a perversion of justice and not a reflection of the values of Fairfax County.

The committee cited numerous cases in which it said criminal defendants benefited from reduced or dismissed charges. In one example, prosecutors allegedly reduced felony charges involving the sexual assault of a child to misdemeanor "consensual sex with a child" and offered a 90-day suspended jail sentence.

Just some light "consensual" sex with a minor.

And note this was a plea -- the actual charge was sexual assault. Involuntary sex with a child.

...

One case involved Marvin Morales-Ortez, an alleged MS-13 member whose charges were dropped before the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office released him in December 2025. The report said Morales-Ortez allegedly murdered a man in Reston, Virginia, one day later.

...

The report highlighted the case of Stephanie Minter, who was fatally stabbed in February. The suspect, Abdul Jalloh, is an illegal immigrant with more than 40 prior charges in Fairfax County. The committee said Descano's office had dropped charges against Jalloh in almost every case and that police warned prosecutors before the killing that "it is not a question of if, but rather when [Jalloh] will maliciously wound -- or worse -- again."

Cheryl Minter, Stephanie's mother, told the committee that "a system failed my daughter."

"When policies protect people who are a known threat, innocent lives are put at risk," she said. "When warnings are ignored, families like mine pay the price."

"By ‘Fascism’ they mean, roughly speaking, something cruel, unscrupulous, arrogant, obscurantist, anti-liberal and anti-working-class. Except for the relatively small number of Fascist sympathizers, almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’. That is about as near to a definition as this much-abused word has come."

81 Just one example:

Buchanan County, VA.

Turnout statewide in the 2025 election was about 58%.

Buchanan? 38%.

It's a small county, but rurals don't turn out. It's a tiny county whose biggest city is about 800 people, but it's R+36 on PVI. Total population is about 18,000.

It's one of about 3 dozen small rurals that could have had 80% turnout because they hated Democrats so much but instead had below average turnout instead.

How do you move a population like that organizationally (not excusing the VAGOP, they seem to suck, but this is a real issue) when the central population hub is 800 people?

It'd work better than almost anything else.

But, the problem is ultimately cultural. They just don't consider voting very important. They live in the sticks. Their government is their local sheriff. The governor for most of them might as well be in a different state or country.

To address it is a generational issue, not one fixed with a quick promise of $5,000 tax rebates.

It's observable in TX, mostly places with high profile senate elections.

I've been saying this for months, but the only way to juice turnout in a midterm is to have a federal senate election in your state. Otherwise, turnout crashes.

You need self-starting behavior to get people to turn out for everything else. Or, such a detailed, expansive GOTV effort that you're going door to door in places where doors are miles apart.

Yes, they would be turning out more. It would be animating them.

Gas prices do not, never have, and never will predict elections.

It's like wanting special elections to predict the next general. There's history upon history upon history showing that no, they don't have predictive power.

But year after year, "Oh, sure, maybe they've never been predictive before, but this year is totally happening."

Gas prices were actually higher under Biden and under Obama (adjusted for inflation) and neither saw serious punishment for gas prices.

If gas prices killed the party in power, Democrats would have lost California 20 years ago.

201 TJM, not disputing your basic thesis on gas prices/elections at all, but CA - sort of a bad case to base any generalizations on. The state's politically dead. There's only one party, really, but more importantly, the electorate is self-destructively idiotic (like much of the US).

In the largest political earthquake in modern American history (down to county level), 2010, I believe exactly one incumbent in CA was booted. One deceased incumbent was re-elected as well.

This is how dead the state is. It's bizarre. Gas prices here should resemble those in TX. CA is an oil-rich state that formerly had a substantial % of American refining capacity. Both things, of course, dramatically damaged or limited, while an idiotic public looks on, sucking its thumb.

2026 Maine Senate Poll

🔴 Susan Collins: 49%

It's Joever for Troy Jackson.

Unless polling firms as bad as Fox News have figured out how to address the massive issue of reaching rural voters that has affected the entire industry for at least a decade (and gotten worse) and is particularly bad in Maine (Collins lost every single poll in 2020 and won by 8, a swing of 16 points from the hallowed RCP average) and got it bang on and this is totally just a tied race.

I don't quite understand why Kamala is so unable to express herself clearly. Is she stupid or befuddled by alcohol or both? . We all have times where we're tired or don't feel well or are under stress where things don't come out as we might like, but she does this repeatedly. I think it's racist of white Dems to promote her simply because she's black . I expect that were she alive today, the black poet ( since the last thread was talking about poets) and former slave, Phyllis Wheatley, would be a better candidate for public office than Kamala.

236 There's only one party, really, but more importantly, the electorate is self-destructively idiotic (like much of the US).

I maintain the elections in Cali are so fucked there's no way to know what the electorate actually is, and that's why they're sweating about Trump's threats to arrest the election officials. Sort of like how Miami was assumed to be a deep blue city until DeSantis supervised their elections with a microscope and suddenly it wasn't.

248 There's a rumor that several Democrat Senate HQs, including those in Texas, Michigan, and North Carolina, are celebrating the destruction of the Iwo Jima statue. In NC, they even set up a mock statue with sex toys and hypodermic needles, and blindfolded people, gave them baseball bats, and let them swing at it pinata-style. I'm told that Roy Cooper, the Democrat candidate, himself took a swing at it.

To make matters even more complicated:

A pollster that can get a national race correct can be horrible at the state level at the same time.

257 Gas prices are going to move the needle. Yes, it's stupid, but I've seen a lot of polling where it's a leading issue. Over immigration and crime. And then you have the Iran war being incredibly unpopular that's tied to it.

Again, its a stupid connection that therefore you vote for Dems, but I think it's just a knee jerk reaction of our dumb electorate.
