Jccabral.eth@JooBernardoCor1 A mom gets the call that after sixteen days, her son has awoken from his coma. Giant bamboo and I do mean giant. Awesome Lego train. Here's a weird hobby: "Stealth camping." You camp on public land in the middle of towns or even cities. But the trick is, you want to camp somewhere in plain sight, and yet hidden from casual viewers. This guy built a fake electrical junction box and placed it overnight on strip of grass in town and then "stealth camped" inside it for 36 hours. It doesn't look like much fun. I think you're just supposed to enjoy the feeling, "Oh boy, I'm not supposed to be here but I totally am!" But you're stuck in a 2 x 2 x 3 box with a bedpan and an iPad. Belugas are the most romantic of all cetaceans. Birds being clowns and goofs. Not a great site for playing baseball. Or soccer. Or most sports with a ball. Nope. A cheetah introduces her cheetlings. The Nürburgring is a mountain race course in Northern Germany. It's sometimes called "The Green Hell." Here are some wipe-outs from the 70s. Not too violent. Mostly just cars flipping over while trying to make a sharp turn.

Willowed: My favorite though are the telepathic cat partners of the human telepaths who guard the ships in deep space travel from the Rats/Dragons in The Game of Rat and Dragon. One of the great short stories of all time. The cats go out in little craft steered by the humans and swat the controls that send light bombs to kill them because only they are fast enough to do it.
Posted by: Oldcat at October 22, 2026 *** Yes -- one of the finest short stories, SF or not, ever written. One great aspect of peak SoCal golden age was surf film directors touring and playing their movies in high school gyms/auditoriums. Including the top ones like Bruce Brown. In fact that was the main "venue" for most surf films at the time. I was just a bit young for it, though did go to a few Friday night films in junior high. Such a fantastic time and place to be young.

Nurburgring. There are people right now doing battle over the Mustang GTD and Corvette ZR1. It’s a daily thing. It never stops. I miss the days when people just argued for fought to the death over 1/4 mile times. Now it’s Nurburgring times. A track 99% of people will never see or drive on and in cars most people will never own.
Posted by: JROD at October 22, 2026 08:11 PM (5GJQt) 65
Nürburgring was where Nikki Lauda almost died. He missed a few races but came back and almost won the F1 championship anyway. James Hunt held on though. The movie 'Rush' is about that season and is very good, FYI. Nurburgring still holds races (24 Hours of Nurburgring notably) and you can drive it, if you want. They do allow it, as long as another event isn't going on. I think Porsche uses it as a test track (or maybe Mercedes).

HUGE student protests scheduled for October 31st in all major cities of Germany. IMO, that's when things get very interesting (Arte Johnson voice).
Here's what they claim to be protesting. Thousands of students are protesting broken school systems, strict government austerity, high housing costs, inflation, climate change, and the reinstatement of military conscription. It seems rather transparent that the real underlying motivators for these "protests" are hiding behind issues like the ones listed as an excuse to cause chaos. Hat tip to the organizers who thought up that approach. It gives the Progressive politicians something to grasp onto to avoid the blame for the inevitable violence and vandalism.
