This story is several months old but there's fresh news -- the city council at least voted no confidence in his leadership.

Lawrence city councilors voted no confidence in Mayor Brian DePeña Tuesday, formally casting doubt on his ability to lead as he battles more than two dozen state and federal charges.
Five councilors voted in favor of the no-confidence resolution, one opposed it, and three declined to take a stance. But given the City Council has no legal authority to remove DePeña from office, the vote amounted to more of a political statement than an action item.
DePeña, 61, has rebuffed calls for his resignation and pledged to continue serving, even despite growing support for a recall election to potentially remove him from office.
The two-term Democrat was initially arrested in August on federal charges stemming from alleged pandemic loan fraud, with prosecutors saying he misused more than $1.5 million meant for a local business he owned. The political firestorm continued last month as Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell's office announced DePeña had been indicted on wiretapping charges for allegedly sharing an illegally recorded conversation between two city staffers.

While hundreds of thousands of protesters in France demonstrated peacefully over the cost of living and school conditions at the weekend, the mayhem -- including public buildings being set on fire, stores being looted and clashes with riot police -- sparked widespread condemnation in France and abroad, including in the U.S., where Trump is using the French unrest to rally voters ahead of November's midterm elections.

There is no evidence tying last weekend's incidents in France to immigration.
Macron said Trump is "among" a group of political leaders who are campaigning "off of France's back," adding, "it's at times like these that you can tell who loves France and who doesn't."

Right-leaning leaders in other European countries like Hungary and Poland also tried to pin the unrest in France on immigration to justify their countries' hard-line policies on the divisive issue. During Monday's heated debate, she also appeared to bizarrely suggest a link between the recent rioting and the attacks on Algerian immigrants by French police back in October 1961, La Depeche reported.
Whittaker was not immediately available for comment.

The NFL has one of its international matches scheduled for Sunday in Paris. Apparently they're going ahead with the game despite the obvious security risks.

Lived there two years and loved it, and would go back if we could. It's hard if you don't know Polish, and we didn't, but we managed. Food has improved tremendously since we were there, and it was pretty good then. People are no nonsense, but decent, and it was a joy to see people going to church on Sundays in all the neighborhoods. Nuns and priests walked around and greeted people, and if they could speak English, would chat happily with us.

I'm a dyed-in-the-whool socialist and I think we have a severe immigration problem. It's clear the Liberal governments have a conservative immigration policy: one which serves corporations, universities/colleges, banks and landlords.

A socialist immigration policy would bolster public services with doctors, nurses, daycare workers, social workers, etc.

It would increase refugee resettlement; people who, in my professional experience, development a high level of gratitude and love towards Canada and their new communities.
