Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Hollywood: Crap or Rubbish?Netflix is the most left-wing of all media behemoths -- except for Disney. They're tied. Netflix has just slashed 1000 jobs.Netflix (NFLX.O), opens new tab is laying off 6% of its workforce, or roughly 1,000 employees, in its biggest cuts since 2022, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters, as the streaming pioneer faces tough competition for viewers from legacy rivals and YouTube. The bulk of the job cuts would be in Netflix's product, tech, legal and human-resources teams, the email Co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos sent to employees on Wednesday showed. They're getting no criticism for this. Leftists play life on its easy settings. WDW_Pro points out that Mark Ruffalo and his other communist antisemite pals attacked Skydance for a year over hypothetical future reductions in workforce. Skydance was going to destroy Hollywood and California itself with layoffs. But when the company he demanded be allowed to purchase Warner Bros. cuts 1000 jobs, he says NOTHING. Because he's a taqiyya communist and lies are like breaths to him. They also point out that the other super-left media company, the Disney Groomer Corporation, just cut 600 jobs. No objections from Ruffalo. AG I'm sick of this brain-damaged rummy and I'm glad he's aging like milk. Actor Ben Affleck went on the attack against those who support the deportation of criminal illegal aliens -- support that has long been bipartisan -- and insisted that supporters off President Donald Trump's immigration policies are rooted in "xenophobia." He also claimed that it is "totally false" that Democrats have been refusing to prosecute illegal migrant murderers and rapists.
The trailer for the C.S. Lewis' adaptation of The Magician's Nephew debuted. This is the "modernized" version by Barbie director Greta Gerwig. She gender-flipped the character standing in for God/Jesus, Aslan, who will be played by Meryl Streep. Because eff you, Hollywood makes like four Christian themed movies and that's too many. Any Christian themed movie must be subverted, deconstructed, and "modernized" to not offed TikTok harridans. A Christian story has to be made for atheist efminists. The trailer's getting a lot of praise for featuring an altered version Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." Greta Gerwig claims this is the very first time that Led Zeppelin has allowed anyone to use their music in a movie trailer. Except, I guess, for the prominent use of "The Immigrant Song" for Thor: Rangarok. Or "Whole Lotta Love" in the trailer for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Using a remixed version of a Led Zeppelin classic in the trailer for a fantasy film? What a great, creative, never-been-done-before new idea. Here's the trailer. I think it suffers from the "Two People Standing in a Room Made Entirely of Greenscreen and Computer Pixels" problem. People are tired of this. We've seen it and seen it and seen it and seen it. And then when Ant Man: Quantumania came out, we decided not to bother seeing it at all. Another fantasy flop, A Wrinkle in Time, also featured "Two Kids Standing in a Room Made of Greenscreen and Computer Pixels" and flopped hard. No one is impressed by this, and no one thinks it looks real. The best part of the trailer, to me, is the beginning, when they're filming in an actual crumbling building in England. The movie cost $280 million. With some saying it cost even more than that. There are reports that the film is "awful." The InSneider is now further reporting on friction between Netflix film chief Dan Lin and Greta Gerwig over 'Narnia,' the fantasy epic that's reportedly carrying a $280M budget, with some saying it's much higher than that. One source tells Sneider the tension is very real, and that people at Netflix think the movie is "awful," calling it "a genuine problem.” A second source, who attended a test screening over the summer, compared it to Ava DuVernay's "A Wrinkle in Time," the 2018 Disney adaptation that reportedly lost the studio close to $100M. According to that source, the mood in the room was deflated once the lights came up. That screening reportedly led Netflix to order reshoots. The same source flagged a structural issue that may still be fixed in post: the characters apparently don't reach Narnia until the third act. For a movie called 'Narnia,' that's a curious choice. ... [W]hen multiple sources are describing what seems to be a problematic movie, Netflix has reason to worry. I have no idea what the final result will be, but I had also heard about the mixed test screening reactions, but that was also a cut with barely half-finished VFX. As I articulated earlier….
I like to watch a season or two of a series (almost exclusively ones recommended by people who know me) and then quit while I still really like it. Ozark is a great example. Two seasons. Freaking awesome. Then done. I KNEW ot would get woke and stupid and awful. Hollywood ruins all the good stuff eventually. Posted by: nurse ratched at October 16, 2026 04:15 PM (yEz+x) 3

>>It's not that CBS News might become ideologically right-wing. There is zero evidence Weiss is pushing for them to only report things from that perspective and plenty of evidence that's not true. It's simply that it could expose people to the other side, and that can't be allowed.
They don't want ANY outside control. They are spoiled children used to getting to do what they want with no rules. How dare Weiss expect them to make a profitable product!? Posted by: Lizzy at October 16, 2026 04:19 PM (rOKnE) 11
The fun thing about Hollyweird moviefying the 'Chronicles of Narnia' is that the last book or two depict an invading force coming to conquer the Kingdom of Narnia, and this force is comprised of people who, by the way they are described, sound a lot like middle-easterners; marauders, dark features, use large swords with curved blades, etc.
One of their number is a boy who "converts" to follow Aslan. I'm guessing that if they, in fact, adapt this to the big screen, the invaders will be switched to greedy billionaires who are after Narnia's natural resources. Why is Narnia being crucified for its artistic changes whereas the new Carrie tv series is being applauded?
Stephen King and horror fans are less reactionary. the controversy is strange. the core story has unremovable Christian themes but removing something like Aslan directly implying that he’s Jesus doesn’t fundamentally break the story. Hot Take: An adaptation of Narnia created by someone who might not share the same religious values as Lewis has potential to be more interesting than the opposite. Every single post about this film is swamped by the same unhinged cult responses 😩 It's not about theology. It is about bringing a fantastic children’s story to a whole new audience. She’s Unitarian Universalist and self described “theist” which is absolutely not Christian…she’s also described Christianity as “creepy” except for Catholicism because she likes how they “worship” Mary. Not Christian. Imma gonna be honest, I’m too Catholic and European for this. If Disney can screw up "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle which is the first book in a great series of books for kids ( but adults can enjoy as well) I don't have a lot of confidence in their ability to do "The Magician's Nephew" with any more integrity . I don't know that they know how to "de-wokeify" anything and just the idea of Aslan voiced by what's her name turns me off.

I also dislike moving the setting of "The Magician's Nephew" from the 1890's to the 1950's.
And the casting of Uncle Digory is odd. Digory was a tall, gawky Uriah Heep with a shock of grey hair (per the Pauline Baynes illustrations), servile to his "betters" but willing to endanger children to achieve his ends. Yes, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin; Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones, retain significant ownership and control over the band's music catalog. Corporate Control: The band’s primary assets, including music publishing and global trademarks, are held by Superhype Tapes, where Jimmy Page owns 80% of the shares. Asset Ownership: The group owns its entire recorded masters catalog and retains creative control, with artistic rights (licensing, use) voted on by the surviving members and the late John Bonham’s family. Limited Third-Party Stake: A 10% stake in the catalog, held by Helen Grant (daughter of former manager Peter Grant), was sold in a signed deal in 2024, but this represents a passive royalty interest with no voting power or control over releases. Publishing Rights: Individual members control specific publishing entities (e.g., Succubus Music for Page, Trolcharm for Plant), ensuring they manage their respective songwriter royalties independently. 70 How do you "remix" it to sound so different?
Posted by: Archimedes at October 16, 2026 04:19 PM (Riz8t) Computers can do a lot of amazing things with audio mixing these days. Posted by: SpeakingOf ======= They can. They can do a lot more if the original studio tapes are out there with multiple takes of the same song. And a lot of late 60's and early 70's sound mastering sounds muffled and muddy compared to what was originally recorded. Partly the fault of bad studio monitor speakers compared with today. And at least for some bands, careless producers pushing product out the door before the band became yesterday's news. Beatles and Mo-town artists did not have that problem. Lot of Mo-Town takes sound fresh and great even though the technology used to record and mix the songs is archaic. Gordy and his engineers knew how to get the best out of their equipment and talent on recording. Martin did that with the Beatles with his collaboration. Glyn Johns, his brother, and Alan Parsons were exceptions to the rule as recording engineers and later producers. Posted by: whig at October 16, 2026 04:46 PM (E4rtv) 97

Considering his success in making and acting in indie movies when indie movies peaked, he sure is missing the fact that movies like "Digger"* are best made on a small budget and go the arthouse route. 138 Take less risks. The thing is, Hollywood could take MORE risks in a smarter way by just handing 200 random film makers 1 million dollars and seeing what comes of it than giving one film maker 200 million. Sasha Stone's review of the Theranos doc:
Fielder and Oppenheim have made a masterpiece. There is no other way to describe it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t disturbing or perhaps even exploitative, but it is a work of genius unlike anything you’ll see this year or have seen in at least the last ten years. I would say I loved the movie, but that isn’t the word that comes to mind. Great works of art don’t exclude you from the experience, and this one doesn’t. Even if, as with Digger, half the people watching it feel vindicated and absolved of their sins in the endless stoning of Holmes, these filmmakers won’t let you get away with it. The title says it all: “You can see everything,” and if you think about it enough, you’ll realize that they are toying with your desire to be a voyeur and to inspect people you don’t know like insects in a lab. The greatest directors know this about human nature - Hitchcock, Kubrick, Fincher. They know you are not an inactive participant, and sometimes they seduce you into exposing that truth. This is one of those times. Posted by: beckster at October 16, 2026 05:03 PM (kX27y) 158

My take away from "Digger" was that the subject matter approach did it in. Instead of capitalizing on the already popular "Land Man" it served as a contrary opinion held by fewer potential viewers. Take LOTR for example.
Movies focus on visuals. Action, stunts, fireworks and blood and gore. Books are about the story. The songs and the poetry and the smells of the food. The texture of the moss on the rocks and the coolness of the welcome stream. Or the damp foreboding of the caves. The oppressive heat of the middle world. The stank of rotting flesh. The calming peace of Rivendell. Hollywood skips all that for loud, oppressive over visualization and violence. Granted, LOTR is violent. But it is a journey not about violence but about friendship and loyalty and resolution. Posted by: nurse ratched at October 16, 2026 05:14 PM (yEz+x) 186
