  • AI agents aren't "going rogue". Frontier labs are skipping security basics. (CSO Online)

    You don't say.
According to the cybersecurity professionals CSO spoke with, one of the biggest cybersecurity failures by the frontier AI labs is the lack of implementation of tried-and-true containment practices that stretch back to the 1990s, such as setting up secure sandboxes that would effectively bar agents from escaping their test environments.
    Oh, you do say.
"These are things that we've been dealing with for years," Rob T. Lee, chief AI officer and chief of research at SANS Institute, tells CSO. "There's no reason why every single time this happens, it's, 'Oops, we don't know how they got out.'"
Don't be unreasonable; it's not like these are billion-dollar companies we're talking about.

    Oh.

17 It’s also a weapon that the government will likely use against not only undocumented immigrants, but everyone else, too. That includes political enemies, intelligence experts said. Speaking with the Prospect on Monday as news broke that the Trump regime had raided progressive Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s D.C. home, former military intelligence analyst Michael Wriston said that “you’d expect to see more of this” under ERO ONE.

“Not just necessarily sitting members of Congress, but anyone, and especially members of the immigrant community,” Wriston said. “No one is safe. No one.”

That train left the station at least 25 years ago.

I notice how none of these people remember 2016 and the FBI/CIA and everybody else was spying, legally, on a presidential campaign.

I seem to remember Democrats being very much in charge in 2016 so that probably explains The American Prospect's absent-mindedness.

28 All in all, Googlebook OS is an easy-to-use operating system, and if you mainly use Google services anyway or are already part of the Android ecosystem, it can certainly make sense. In our view, however, the premium positioning of the new Googlebook models is problematic. While you get good hardware, prices start at around €1,200, and for that price the new Googlebook operating system is very limited. There are plenty of Windows or macOS alternatives (such as the MacBook Air) that also let you use all the Google apps while providing a full-fledged operating system.

That's a big problem for anybody who doesn't use their laptop for just Google web apps.

Schools aren't going to pay $1300 for laptops that they can get the same basic experience on for $750. Students don't need, and shouldn't get, OLED screens and state of the art APUs.

So, other than some businesses that are nailed down to Chomebooks and want to pay more for better quality hardware I really can't see what the widespread use case is for Googlebooks.

41 So when someone says, “They’re so stupid!” it means they’ve stopped thinking. They say it because it’s satisfying to jump to that conclusion.

So if you decide someone is stupid, it means you’re not thinking, which is not being smart.

Therefore, smart people don’t think others are stupid.

I don't assume people are stupid.
Being a human who has made plenty of stupid mistakes I recognize people can do stupid things who aren't stupid.
It happens to the best of us.

But if you look around this world and don't realize there is a sizable population of truly stupid people on the planet, and that can be determined with absolute certainty by smart people, then you are fucking stupid hiding behind a veil of politically correct politeness.

I wish someone would drill into these UI-changing morons that if a user has selected specific things they want in their UI, and you're about to steamroll them with a new update, present them with a side-by-side comparison of old and new, and let them choose which to keep.

Just because you have a new UI that looks good to you, doesn't mean everyone that spent a lot of time tweaking and getting used to their old setup will appreciate what you think looks good.

Installed fonts-ubuntu-classic and things seem to be ... better.

Lost my square tabs in Firefox though (separate issue, caused by Firefox's new 'nova' which replaces 'proton'.)

FAKE NEWS MSNBC JUST TOLD AMERICA KASH PATEL "LANDED IN RUSSIA" TO MEET THE FSB.

REALITY CHECK: He's at Liberty University. Right now.

Of course Ken Dilanian went on air and claimed "two people familiar with the matter" told him the FBI Director touched down in Moscow for a two-day trip to Saint Petersburg, hosted by the FSB.

No FBI confirmation. No White House. Just "two people familiar." And the second it aired, Russian state media and half the left ran with it, treason, collusion, Patel is Putin's man.

The man is in Lynchburg, Virginia. MSNBC never checked where the FBI Director physically was before they told the world he was in Moscow.

That's not journalism, it's FAKE NEWS.

102 Court slaps down California attempt to unmask ICE in bombshell ruling

A federal appeals court has permanently nixed a California law that would have forced ICE agents to wear identification, saying that the state can’t regulate actions by the federal government.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday agreed with the Trump administration that the California law violated the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause by interfering with federal officers’ duties.

Are you kidding me? Why? California is actually an easy bar to pass. I don't know jacksh!t about Nevada law, for instance. And who's going to hire me at anything above entry-level wages to practice a state's law I know nothing about? When I started in CA, I got $20/hour for the first 6 months, and no bennies. It went up to $25.... Law is not like medicine. An appendix in CA is an appendix in all the other states. Law is entirely contrived. And then there's the procedural stuff that takes years to learn to do right. Nah. Not realistic.
