Teddy Bear the Talking Porcupine Cafe

naganoprefecturejapanryogoukaurata.jpg
Nagano Prefecture, Japan
Ryogo Urata

Magpies "serenading" their human friend.

Elephant works the problem.

Petting and playing with a friendly shoebill stork.

We're gonna need a bigger boat. No wait, this one will do just fine.

Drone photographs alligator. The alligator does not appreciate it.

Move, bitch, get out da way.

Close encounter with an orca.

Woman water-skis with dolphins. (It's actually a wakeboard, I know.)

Bear and man.

Good clip for spooky season.

Two bulldogs watch the dog kennel scene from The Thing.

The Batman Kid is taking this too seriously.

Classic: Buttermilk the bouncing bounding baby goat.

Very cute: Squirrel is best friends not just with a man but a bull terrier. (? on that dog identification.)

Teddy Bear the Talking Porcupine likes corn, but does not like sharing.

Does Teddy like pumpkin? There's only one way to find out.

I had to send the IRS some money and wanted to make sure it was postmarked today. I asked the clerk at usps can you stamp this? I was thinking it would be run through a machine or some mechanical stamp. Nope just a manual stamp. The kind that can be set to any date you want in 10 seconds. No audit trail, no nothing.

But yeah there is no way mail in ballots would ever be postmarked after the fact. No way man. Democrats who work at usps would absolutely never ever do that. Right?

One of the questions of exoplanet research is asking how our own solar system compares. Are we run of the mill, or some sort of oddball or something. Trouble has been a piss-poor sample of exo-solar systems. That is changing slowly, and now they think they've seen a enough to decide that there are basically two families of stellar systems.

Type 1 they call "peas in a pod". Low mass systems, very ordered, with many planets sort of close together. The other type is "high dynamical temperature". These are higher mass systems where the mass seems to get concentrated in relatively fewer, big mass planets more distantly spaced.

In that picture, our own solar system is sort of at a tipping point between those two types. Were peas in a pod, but yet are a little dynamically hotter. This may, may be some sort of sweet spot, who knows....

Problem is, with current technology it's hard to detect smaller planets reliably, and as for moons? even harder. So our ability to detect also skews the results.
Reminds me of the story, during WW2, when the British or Americans were trying to figure out where to add additional armor to bombers and were using the places where the returning airplanes were shot as the first place to add, but a mathematician noted that those planes came back, so armoring those places didn't make sense; instead they should look where the planes that didn't come back were hit, but since that wasn't possible, use the places on the planes that came back WEREN'T hit...

99 A camel beauty competition is a judged pageant for one-humped camels, where winners are selected based on features like head size, lip shape, neck length, and hump roundness.

In Saudi Arabia, the most famous version is part of the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival.

However, in last month's 2026 Camel Beauty Show Festival in Al Musanaa, Oman, 20 camel owners had their animals disqualified from the after veterinary inspectors discovered that the camels had undergone several cosmetic procedures to enhance their appearance.

The disqualified camels had received a mix of injectables, including hyaluronic acid injections to their lips, dermal fillers and silicone around their nose, Botox to soften their faces, silicone wax to inflate their humps, and more.

"We are keen to halt all acts of tampering and deception in the beautification of camels," festival organizers with the Camel Club and the Oman Camel Racing Federation said in a statement, as they added that they would impose "strict penalties on manipulators."

182 Hi SMH,

I hope you and Ex-Ex are well. Hopefully we can all make it to TX next year. I still owe him a sunset.

185 According to Elon, we can all have one starting in 2028. He's really going to build this crazy thing.

Maybe we can pool our funds and rent one for a few hours.

188 Democrats’ worst nightmare is a product that makes ease of movement more affordable for normal people. They do not want us to have the freedom to go wherever we want, whenever we want.

189 188 Nope. That is anathema to them.

191 Could it be that the Great Pyramid at Giza was a giant MASER used to defend Earth against Orionanians? There is no evidence to support any denial of the veracity of this proposition.

194 >> Orionanians

That's the Green Chicks. As later revealed in Enterprise, rather than being slave girls, the Green Chicks were actually the masters of the whole Orion Syndicate. Their pheromones turned all men to putty in their hands.
