4 So a reseller in Malaysia started embedding LTE chips - smartphone modems - inside them. (Tom's Hardware)

And stole $93 million worth of Bitcoin.

I'm always amazed at the amount of effort crooks put into getting free money, when they could put the same amount of effort into getting a real job and making their money legally.

5 Meanwhile the password for the Danish national registry, holding the personal data of more people than actually live in Denmark, was reportedly 123456. (Tom's Hardware)

Oops.

And to think, one special character like a '!' or '@' in there somewhere would've been secure and never breached.

It's been known for some time that hardware has been compromised by certain manufacturers. Why would you not check for such alterations?

9 A Pantone colour book from the 17th century. (Open Culture)

We actually had to make something similar to this when I was taking design (color theory) classes in college.

Except it was a large 'Color Wheel' we had to make with primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, and then below it we had to take colors and shade them or lighten them for different hues.

I hated that assignment.

28 I woke early from some confused dream about visiting at a family's home and getting cleaned up before dinner. Not Stirling's fault. He seems to have ditched his little game of leaping over and kicking me at 3:45 am.

74 F. this morning, humid and foggy, with a near-record high of 88 expected this pm. My workout this morning will be curtailed a bit, I guess.

29 I saw Pat Benatar live in the mid-90s. The arena on the South Florida U campus. Nice size court with good acoustics. She has a hell of a voice and she's about 2ft-6in high. You could fit her in a dixie cup. Powerful voice coming from a pixie size gal.

30 In other news, I have new living room blinds. The ones that were hanging within the window recess were long ago splintered, possibly by kitten Stirling a few years ago. I asked the office several times to replace them. Their view was "It's the tenant's responsibility." I said, "Sure, but Walmart no longer carries the kind you used!" Stalemate.

Yesterday, though, a maintenance guy showed up and swapped them out. These are mounted *outside* the window recess, hanging just inside my drapes. They have the twist stick to change their orientation, but no cord to raise or lower them. I wonder if they are the kind you pull down or pull up some way?

Anyway, the window now looks like a human lives here instead of a Homo erectus.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 14, 2026 05:07 AM (wzUl9)

31 I thought Pat Benatar was the coolest cutest chick in the world when I was like ten and the "Love Is A Battlefield" video came out.

Then I fell for Madonna for a few years and dumped Pat from my Crush List.

All, she has is "they are bigoted, xenophobic racists who believe weird things."

Yeah it's pretty weird marrying your gay brother in the UK just because you wanted to get him into the country so he could attend your alma mater college in North Dakota.
