Trump should threaten to "nationalize" their companies in the name of national security.
That was my first thought because all of the "profit" has been milked out by the early investors who suckered in the FOMO "investors" into buying massively leveraged debt. Only the US Tax Payer and the mighty Federal Reserve Printing Press can backstop the trillions of dollars pissed away to making multi-millionaires out of Samsung memory chip line workers. In Jack L. Chalker's "Rings of the Master" series, AI turns out to be both the savior and destroyer of humanity.
Master System was given one command above all others: Preserve the human race. It did this somewhat literally by creating human preserves where most of humanity was limited to medieval technology while an "elite" group was kept hidden to maintain the technology of a star-faring empire. The upside was that humanity was scattered across the stars and was in little danger of going extinct. But we were kept in civilizational stasis and could not evolve to the next stage of humanity. You know how I know that the warnings are fake? Because if they really thought this was going to happen they'd simply take their AI hardware offline and do their research in a closed environment. The entire Skynet scenario is unrealistic, unless AI is as self-destructive as some humans are. Computers still need electricity to run things, and currently without humans, the entire electrical generation, transmission, and delivery grid would crumble rather quickly.
That is why SpaceX should be the scary deployment option. Put the data centers in space to be powered by the sun. My Garmin watch interacts with satellites. Posted by: Community Notes at October 09, 2026 07:01 PM (/TiS1) 179

The real danger isn't from these companies, although they can pose a risk if things get out of hand.
The real danger is some evil genius bastard who trains up a super-intelligent AI, self-replicating and self-training, with a sinister goal and sets it loose on the world. Think a nerdy Palestinian who gets his hands on one and gives it one overriding, no-matter-what, goal, like: "Kill all the Jews, no matter where, no matter what." And off it goes. Something like that could be so advanced only smarter AI can hunt it down and kill it. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 09, 2026 07:05 PM (6ydKt) 188

Are some AI companies over valued? Sure. Is it all vaporware? Absolutely not. Posted by: Sandy Cocazio Ortez at October 09, 2026 06:58 PM As I found out today, TXU one of the big Texas utility companies has turned their entire customer support call center over to AI. She tells you upfront and with some pride that she is an AI able to understand human conversations when you call. I tried for almost 30 minutes to get a human to talk to without success. I suspect that almost every other big company is doing the same. Those call centers in india with all of the h-1b visas are going to be closing up shop by the score once the AI bug breaks containment and takes over all of the customer support spots. Posted by: gp But like how the .com crash didn’t mean the internet went away, the 2008 crash didn’t eliminate CDOs and derivatives. All that shit is bigger than ever today. There is about 2X as much money in the global CDO market today as there was in 2008 before the crash. People need to separate the valuations from the tech. AI isn’t going anywhere valuation crash or no valuation crash. A crash will slow it down a few years since the money will dry up but the direction is the same. And the money always comes back. Because the propaganda is in extreme force right now to make the sheeple terrified. FUD controls people. I'm on the other side of this debate. I look at Starbuck's IT Team who informed management that with AI they can replace their $150M/yr spend on Microsoft and IBM enterprise services and write their own software that is custom tailored to Starbuck's operations rather than some expensive generic dreck where the vendors may take months to put requests on their developer's backlog if they take on the customizations at all. The point being, the large contractors like Delloite, Accenture, Cognizant and Tata will be replaced by Anthropic and OpenAI. Think about the hundreds of thousands of H1Bs who will be replaced by a AI chat box. Posted by: Community Notes at October 09, 2026 07:08 PM (9s47C) 198

The first example of significant real-world harm caused by unsafe AI would turn an already wary public further against the technology and its leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, as well as President Trump for his reluctance to regulate it.
Posted by: Disinformation Expert Ace at 06:20 PM There it is.
