Earl was serving as governor of Louisiana back in the 50s or 60s, for like the third term. He pissed off his wife somehow, so she had him committed to a state mental institution. The problem was that it was the state mental institution. He fired everyone there because he was the governor, walked out, hopped on a plane to Dallas, got a quickie divorce, came back to Baton Rouge, served out his term and ran for US Senate and won, I think. So no, being committed does not damage your chances of election. At least in Louisiana! Maybe Texas is different.

Yes, so we're skeptical about both the hype and the dooming. What's left is a fantastic symbolic robot.
If you know how to do something with symbols (which cuts out know-nothings), and you are willing to learn how to use 'AI' to automate it (which cuts out those set in their ways), then you can increase your individual productivity by orders of magnitude -- potentially even cutting out the need to work with people. Perhaps counter-intuitively, the middle-aged are right in the sweet spot for ability and inclination to make good use of it.

Every heard of the Storm of October 1804? It's also famously known as the "Snow Hurricane," made landfall in New Jersey on Oct 9th. Striking near Atlantic City, the storm hit the coast as a strong Cat 2 or weak Cat 3. It is celebrated in meteorological history as the first tropical cyclone ever recorded to produce snowfall. Wild stuff
• Maritime Devastation: The hurricane sank or beached numerous ships along the Mid-Atlantic coast. A ship was run aground near Absecon, and a ferry capsized in the Delaware River near Trenton
• Coastal Damage: Strong storm surges and high winds battered coastal communities, tearing up docks and wharves
