Meteor Shower Cafe

The Milky Way seen from White Pocket, AZ

Another cool shot here

The Draconid Meteor show is supposed to be tonight. Peak time is 9pm on the east coast. Between 5 and 10 meteors will be visible per hour.

Amazing old bridge.

Panther uses a cliff as his climbing tree.

Cow enjoys the beach.

Autumn in full blaze.

Baby rhino practices charging.

Baby elephant builds a nest of palm fronds to nap in.

Red panda pup practices pouncing and generally being an annoyance to its mom.

Loki the mischievous raven.

Muskox vs. giant pumpkin. The outcome was in doubt for longer than I would have guessed.

6 Willowed (Talarico Whining)

CNN: Talarico’s 12-day absence from trail becomes fodder for GOP in Texas Senate race

He has the flu and is a type 1 diabetic, those two things do not go well together so I understand. I’m t1 diabetic and last time I got the flu I ended up in the ICU. His team says he’ll be back this weekend though.

meanwhile Tom Kean in NJ disappears for months with radio silence, comes back and cites vague medical issues, then votes to cut medical benefits.

Couldn’t even get the guy to come visit a factory in town before the tariffs shut it down, lmao. Tom Kean Jr. is a worthless piece of shit. He should’ve been aborted.

Paxton won’t even debate him and can’t answer any questions about his record without running away but yeah Talarico being sick with the flu is way worse

Did not take CNN long to become right wing propaganda. Paxton has ran possibly the laziest campaign I've ever seen, but we're just going to make shit up about Talarico I guess.

"Fodder for GOP"? They don't even need things that are real for fodder. They've been calling him a vegan all year and it's not true at all. They just make shit up.

@VigilantFox
A 19-year-old charged with stabbing a man in Pittsburgh so badly his intestines were hanging out was released the SAME DAY without posting a dime.
Eight days later, he’s the prime suspect in ANOTHER stabbing.
District Judge Dan Butler let Delvin Dobbins walk on a non-monetary bond. Just a promise to show up to court.
Pittsburgh Police Chief Jason Lando couldn’t believe he was out.
“How can that be? I mean, he just stabbed someone in the stomach a week ago.”
And it’s happened before.
Two years earlier, Dobbins was let go after a burglary arrest because the juvenile detention center had closed. Two months later, he was charged with SHOOTING a convenience store clerk.
Two stabbings and a shooting. The man keeps racking up victims because the judge keeps SETTING HIM LOOSE!

Footage obtained by the New York Daily News showed police officers carrying the wounded man from a silver SUV and putting him in the back of a black car, which sped off.

The unidentified man is now in the hospital, where police officers said he is conscious and receiving medical attention. His wounds are not considered life-threatening, law enforcement sources told the New York Post.

A five-year-old was also said to have been in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but was uninjured.

Mamdani called the incident 'unconscionable and incredibly serious' in a post on social media as he announced his plans to get federal agents out of New York City.

'I have called the President; when we speak, I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city,' the mayor said.

'I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities,' he continued. 'Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.'

'Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children,' Mamdani concluded. 'Abolish ICE.'

Also, from the same source, some amateur shots of the lunar occultation of Jupiter the other night:

And my favorite, a time lapse of the occultation:

Note how overexposed he is there. He did that in order to see the four Galilean moons lined up like ducks in row. The overexposure glare made them all look bigger than than the really are. There's a world of the complexity of optics, telescopes, resolving power, etc, etc, in how all this works.

Nidal Hasan is a paraplegic. He’s not going to look like a big scary terrorist. He’s going to look small and helpless as he sits in a wheelchair.
The imagery of this is not going to play well with the public.

183 There's a place listed there on googlemaps called: Kenny's Girlfriends House.

I don't know a thing about it but if I were anywhere near it (in TX that's about 100 miles or so) I'd simply have to drive by.

That cracks me up. Can you just label stuff on Google Maps? I could get up to some real mischief, if so.

There already is a place called "Big Dick's Halfway Inn," though.

Also, if interested read about the Great Meteor Storm of 1833. That was about the biggest one in recorded history, I think. People thought the world was about to end.

That led to the modern astronomical meteor science.

It's sort of hard to believe, but up until 1803, astronomers and the physicists of the day thought that the idea of "rocks from space" was pure nonsense, the equivalent of Big Foot and UFOs today. A bunch of peasants making shit up. In 1803, the "rocks from space" hypothesis was conclusively confirmed. I forget the details there.

But it wasn't until that Doomsday storm of 1833 that they began to develop the theory of just what these rocks from space really were.

I remember Leon Klinghoffer who did nothing while in a wheelchair and was shot dead and thrown overboard by Islamic terrorists.

Screw Hasan. He spent years breathing air that he didn't deserve.

As long as the exit chute is aimed at a pigsty, I'm good with it.
