Apple is changing the meaning of granting applications full disk access, because it meant that applications granted full disk access were granted full disk access.
In Muse's case, the AI optionally allows users to enable Full Disk Access. This setting, Apple explains, gives an app permission to access files, mail, messages, and even browsing history.
As I said.

Apple thinks its customers are idiots.

Much of the time, this is true.
"Some developers are using Full Disk Access in ways that could put users at risk, exposing everything on their systems...without users' full knowledge and understanding," Apple said in a new blog post aimed at developers.

Cloudflare is trying to outplay Jev with Clef, an open-weight model that allows you to run the already open-weight Qwen 3.5 9B while using only seven times as much memory. (The Register)

Jev is an LLM model for making simple decisions with a good degree of accuracy, rather than performing complex tasks badly. Qwen 3.5 9B running at a default quantisation (level of detail) needs about 6GB of RAM - VRAM or shared RAM on a Mac or a PC with integrated graphics.

Somehow Clef requires 41GB. I presume that's not just because Cloudflare are idiots; they're generally not. But it does cost six times as much as Jev if you choose to run it in the cloud because you don't have 41GB of VRAM.

I happened to be there during one of their triennial meetings...
My hotel room had at least one camera in it, and I was followed around. I took photos while my wife wrote notes (to which our tour guide was questioned if my wife was part of the tour). It was an interesting experience.

Not the greatest of the old half-hour oaters that thundered across TV screens in the '50s and early '60s, but not a bad one.

On the surface, Marxism and Islam are opposites: one a licentious atheism (dialectical materialism), the other a puritanical theocracy. On the next level, they are still opposites, albeit both false: one a crypto-religion in the guise of a political system, the other a pseudo-religion hiding a political system. That is still not quite it.

The final level is to realize that they are both confidence schemes, so the rhetoric is just meaningless scam patter. There's a skin of pseudo-intellectual tripe to entrance the rubes, over a skeleton of a system of totalitarian control.

That's why Islamunism is a thing: the different skins are fake; they're really both just all about Power.

I can’t even find a paper instruction manual for all the trivia that I have to ask my offspring to explain. It took me a long time to resurrect the jpegs I used to get by screenshotting an iPad. I still can’t resize the stuff I email to the Windows desktop for printing.

75 . . . I HATE modern consumer electronic devices. I refuse to use the word “tech” as a synonym for those infernal things. I can’t even find a paper instruction manual for all the trivia that I have to ask my offspring to explain. It took me a long time to resurrect the jpegs I used to get by screenshotting an iPad. I still can’t resize the stuff I email to the Windows desktop for printing.

Back in the day when I found about "sip-communicator", I was part of a team working on a Session Initiated Protocol (aka SIP) server that Nortel couldn't pull its head out of its ass enough to sell to businesses while it was circling the drain. We had a video conferencing solution you could run on a windows desktop that could handle a team scrum meeting.

With shared whiteboard capabilities. With video recording. With instant messaging. Hell, we used it internally.

Nortel, OTOH, wanted to sell the old PBXs they still had.

Avaya bought that team as part of Nortel bankruptcy and proceeded to sodomize the dog by insisting that Things Must Be Done The Avaya Way.

Avaya (as far I could tell at the time) viewed small businesses as worms to be ignored. Sadly, Avaya couldn't figure out that big businesses viewed Avaya as a worm to be ignored as soon as possible.
