59 This is typical of Millet's work: great use of light, realistic detail and natural poses. What I love about this is the humor. The man's expression, gazing at the viewer with worry, maybe fear, as the women close in for the 'kill', is perfect for the title.

Between Two Fires is an 1892 oil painting by the American artist Francis Davis Millet. [1] [2] A genre painting, it humourously depicts a seventeenth century English Puritan about to say Grace but is diverted by the more worldly presence of two attractive serving maids who stand alluring in front of him under a sprig of mistletoe. Millet settled in Britain and helped establish the artists colony at Broadway. It was at Abbots Grange, the monastic ruin which he used as an art studio and where he produced this picture. [3]

Now in the collection of Tate Britain.[4], of course.

BTW, Francis Davis Millet was an American academic classical painter, sculptor, and writer who died at age 65 in the sinking of the RMS Titanic.

Vincent van Gogh deeply admired French painter Jean-François Millet, famously calling him "above all, and more than anyone else, the painter of mankind." (AI Overview)

I noticed even in MA the governor there has now adopted several of her republican opponent's ideas - suspending the gas tax and getting Trump to rush approval for gas pipelines into the state.

Note she originally ran on stopping new gas pipelines from coming into the state and members of her administration had been trying to increase taxes on cars just before her sudden flip flops.

Unfortunately I can't see her losing because Massholes are stupid Massholes but she wouldn't flip flop if she was way ahead in her internal polls.

Polling is...questionable.

And Jackson is outspending Bottoms something like 50-1 with his own money in the gubernatorial race.

And there are signs in early voting that black vote share is going to be...low. Same thing as shown in VA, NC, and OH early voting.

The birthright citizenship issue is the only issue that SCOTUS hasn't sided with the president on under immigration. Everything else they've allowed, all the way back to his first term when he won Hawaii v Trump (first Muslim ban).

Because of that HvT win, Trump has banned immigration from something like 75 countries in his second term.

Democrats have a reason, GOPe does too. Food stamps benefit big retail and small businesses that do trade with illegals. Economic sales go up from demand push inflation, it creates new government jobs, etc. And for the Dems, new political allies to support their faltering support among Heritage Americans.

None of them have probably heard Bastiat's Broken Window thesis and if they did, they would not care. It is that the idea that the state allowing criminals to 'break windows' ends up benefitting the country by creating new demand and thus investment.

In fact, it destroys investment because the shop keepers have to pay to replace broken windows and whatever surplus they had to invest is now gone. Instead, you get a tragedy of the commons where the organized blocs pushing this policy benefit but society itself becomes poorer. Privatize the Gains and Socialize the Losses is what is going on here. Same with Obamacare, Green Nude Eel, and other scams.

The Senate right now is where good legislation goes to die. And that requires congressional action which unless the filibuster is nuked, is simply not going to happen. We might though get the blue slip policy eliminated if Grassley is no longer head of Judiciary as has been suggested.

It has wreaked havoc because blue states have become pestilent shitholes where Trump is not being allowed to fill major offices like district attorneys and federal district court judges except by appointing what blue state senators want.

This is not blackpilling as such but simply the realization that holding power without doing anything to shore up by effective action reversing past Democrat perfidy will falter and fail. GOPe types in the Senate are the ratchet that keeps these insane and evil policies in action and they do it because a) some are Democrats in GOPe drag (Curtis in UT) & some are craven corporate donor sellouts (Justice in WV for example).

Independents appear to be tuning out even if unhappy about gas prices/war/affordability, they see the Democrats in races as nuts with no real proposals to change things. Democrats hate on Orangeman but are having their own internal battles--their base is being split between normal transactional Democrats that believe in gimmedats/union/etc and the new kids like DSA types. So far, turnout is not at the 2018 level, and in some states below the 2022 rate.

DQuan and Frank didn't have any respect for the Courts to begin with. Its the people who did have respect for the Courts, that now dont. So basically the third of the Country that is paying attention, knows its a dumpster fire. When before, they thought it wasn't so hot - inefficient but not routinely biased.
