But Freddy's Steakburgers hamburgers and shoestring-sized fries are awesome. Their frozen custard is good, too. And I just had a Sonic burger for dinner. They have their Smashburger line that's a decent burger. I had the Bacon Smashburger, and it's tasty, especially with their chili cheese tater tots. They also have their original style burgers, not as wide as flattened smashburgers, but still thick & juicy. And Sonic has plenty of milkshakes and Blizzard ice cream. Evening, Ace, and Cafe patrons! I am having a celebratory eggnog. Got another crusty old Yang Poon generator back in running order, Had to boil out the fuel tank with caustic soda. Tank rocking back and forth on my firepit, flames coming out the ports, and spurts of brown goop as the water boiled . It looked like Satan's percolator. But the tank cleaned up, and the sumbitch runs!
I would sprinkle some Holy Water on it, just to be sure. Posted by: Archimedes at October 02, 2026 08:18 PM (Riz8t) 105
A female stork lost her mate but can't feed herself because she's brooding over her eggs. So the locals are feeding her.
=== Should have let her die, and recover the eggs. She will torture and eat most of her brood otherwise. Posted by: runner at October 02, 2026 08:19 PM (AKptf) Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 02, 2026 08:20 PM (6ydKt) 107
Pitt has come back. 17-14, Hokies!
Hokies are the mascot of Virginia Tech. It's a wild turkey. I have no idea why. Too lazy to look it up. There are a LOT of wild turkeys in that part of Virginia, so it makes a bit of sense to use them as a mascot. Posted by: Puddleglum at work at October 02, 2026 08:25 PM (wh7vU) 108

Posted by: Sorry not sorry at October 02, 2026 08:33 PM (W3Srb) Boiling caustic soda, aka sodium hydroxide aka lye, works a treat for boiling out nasty crudded-up fuel tanks. Dissolves the nasty-smelling spoiled gasoline, and takes the rust off the metal too. The solution turns brown and syrupy. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 02, 2026 08:37 PM (n2qDf) 119

I got about half a dozen scoops of the viscous liquid on top of the mush, and some of the mush. Added about 3 gallons of water. It may be sloppy but it still eats rust and nasty hydrocarbon slime. I avoided getting any on me. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 02, 2026 08:52 PM (n2qDf) 131
Archimedes
Strong base chemical burns are worse than strong acid chemical burns. Acid coagulates the skin and other proteins. Bases keep moving in. Except for the week acid Hydrogen Fluoride. It only dissolves glass and flesh. Killed a student last week, in a university lab accident. This has been your lab safety PSA. Posted by: NaCly Dog at October 02, 2026 08:52 PM (u82oZ) 132

'"deliquescent" and "hygroscopic"'
I see those scenes in BB where they're dumping 50lb bags of the stuff in the pot, with dust rising (at least one scene without PE worn.) I never saw lye dust before, but I guess that's because I never bought it by the 50lb bag before. Unless it's magic paper, I'd expect the bag would get wet very quickly just sitting on the floor. I repeat. Last week Pope Leo presided over an outdoor mass with 800,000 participants and a prayer vigil with in a packed 80,000-man arena that featured a parade of French saints and the crowd went wild when Louis IX and the Crusaders showed up.
But I'm sure it's just a coincidence. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at October 02, 2026 07:37 PM (ZOv7s) ====== I watched a video of the event. It looked like St. Louis IX and St. Joan of Arc were represented in the same group. When her name was announced, the crowd went wild. Number Two on the Celestial Hit Parade was St. Therese of Liseux.
