1, the NFL is just like slavery, and

2, this creaky old man, who was never better than low-average when he was young and in shape, is ready to play for the NFL again.

Colin Kaepernick doubled down on his comparison between the NFL and the slave trade during a conversation with, wait for it, former ESPN commentator Ryan Clark.
Clark asked Kaepernick about the comparison, which he made during the 2021 Netflix series "Colin in Black & White."
"What they don't want you to understand is what's being established is a power dynamic," Kaepernick narrates during the series while depicting the NFL Scouting Combine as a slave auction.
"Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod and examine you, searching for any defect that might affect your performance. No boundary respected. No dignity left intact."
Instead of challenging Kaepernick on the ludicrous and offensive comparison, Clark asked him the following during an interview on his "Pivot" podcast:
"When did you truly start to have the realization that [the combine] reminds [you] of the slave trade?"
Kaepernick was eager to answer.
"You get to the point, where it's like, 'Strip down to your drawers,'" he responded. "It feels like a meat market."
He added that he did not have the "historical perspective at the time" in 2011 to understand what he now considers a "parallel" to a slave auction.
Kaepernick acknowledged that the NFL pays players millions of dollars. However, he argued that the "process and intentions behind the process [are] the same" as slavery.

My biggest fear is that I would start italics and forget to end them, thus winding up "in the barrel" as they say. Exactly. Richard Todd was "God" and virtually unstoppable until a primo defense (I don't remember which) studied his every tendency, and he became a "solved problem" for teams with good enough defenses to copy.

People wouldn't believe this, but I'm a Lion's fan and I saw it myself. But Barry Sanders became largely a "solved problem" when the Giants, with a formidable defense, showed the rest of the league how to play him. And if you had a defense that could spare 3 men for the "triangle", you could hold Barry under 10 yards--oh sure, he was so physically talented that 1 or 2 times a game he could burn you big, but it wasn't always a TD. And so often, toward the end, running Barry frequently--again, against a top defense--left you 2nd and 12.

Mitchell wasn't a very good quarterback, but he frequently had to deal with yards like he had taken a minor sack.

The Bengals played him early on in that year and when they got a big lead Washington started with the option. The Bengals took the option to hammer him like hell whether he kept it or handed it off. I kind of laugh at the logic employed. Were you to ask her why she dresses in a men's business suit, she'd likely tell you she feels more comfortable wearing it due to her sexuality. It helps a lot if you get drafted late by a good team and can develop into the role. Alex Smith was a #1 overall when the 49ers were crap and did poorly, when his contract was up he took a pay cut to stay on and became a long term starter for them and some other teams.
