Apparently the ploy by the board members was to sideline the CEO, vote themselves golden parachutes when the CEO fired them in turn, and then get fired.

In this case a stopgap fix to PHP for AOL's CMS from 2014. 20 million downloads later it is finally being retired.
- Got my first application built: It's an image manipulation server to run on your local network. Feed it images or videos in any common format and tell it what to do with them, ranging from simple resizing and format conversion to compositing and drawing with arbitrarily complicated templates, and it hands the results back to you. About a 15MB binary. That's compressed, and it takes most of a second to start up, but since it's a server you start it once and then leave it running.
Of the 39 project on my list I've started on 18 so far, but this is the first where every planned feature has been checked off.

If it does dry out a little this morning, it would be a good day to wash and spray-wax the car, which includes dolling up the tires with a semi-gloss spray. In cleaning out a lot of "stuff" yesterday, I found some Rain-X gel in a tube as well as a can of their spray windshield cleaner. I could try applying that to the glass and outside mirrors.
Seems to me I heard an old hack for that, to use chewing tobacco (no, not actually chewed) and rub it over the glass so that rain detours around the coated area. Presuming that really works, I wonder if my pipe tobacco would do the same.

I need a better AI. Had to write out a five phase prompt just to get GPT 5.6 Sol to break out a request/response model out of an XSD, that had 160ish complex types, make abstraction models in a popular language and then serializers.
I gave it a head start with XSD, WSDL, CSV mapping and meta data files. It stumbled and fought through the whole thing and now looking at the output, if this was done by an intern, that intern would be fired.
I used 5.4 on previous work and had passable output, though it botched the serialization so that elements were skipped or got into endless loops. Only through lots of coaxing, examples and iterative assignments did it actually work.
GPT may be good for conversation, but Claude kicks its ass when it comes to enterprise grade work.

On Tuesday I restarted my Win11 notebook to install the recent security update. It got up to 99% and then kept spinning its wheel.
Took a gamble and inserted a pin in the RESET hole on the notebook's bottom. Started it up again and after about 3 need-to-restarts I finally got my login screen.

That is a throwback to the Boomers who also had to worry about adjusting the points and regular measuring of the spark and valve gaps.
Besides, given today's direct inject engines, no need to check oil. Either the car's engine will seize due to engineering and manufacturing defects or the vehicle will be repossessed before the first required oil change.

After 27 years, San Francisco dim sum institution Yank Sing is closing its restaurant at Rincon Center. The final day of service at the location at 101 Spear St. will be Sept. 20, co-owner Vera Chan Waller confirmed to SFGATE. The Stevenson Street location, which opened in 1974, will remain open.

My '15 BMW 3 Series had no dipstick. Since I didn't own the car long enough to do even one oil change, I never had the chance to inspect the oil. The electronic device that monitored the level always indicated there was enough in the pan, though.

Drove a beat up AMC Gremlin that I bought from my brother-in-law while in college. Manual transmission. It started to not shift properly with the stick shifter hanging up and not going into the selected gear. Got under the car and noticed that the shift selector rods somehow became bowed. Wrapped wire around them and tightened with pliers. That would work for a while until the wire broke off. Switched to a hose clamp but even then I still had to get under the car on occasion to tighten the hose clamp as it would loosen up after a while.

Have a relative with a Range Rover. Doesn't even have a oil drain plug. Have to use a special tool to suck it out of the pan through the top of the engine.

I do the same with the Buick. Sometimes I don't make 5K miles in that six months. Last interval, though, the car got up to 5400 miles, thanks to my trip to Kansas in April.
Currently the oil life monitor suggests that I could go 7000 miles before the monitor sinks to zero. Unless it was all highway driving, I don't think that's a good idea.

I did that with two of my Mercedes, the '86 and the '97. The cars had drain plugs. But they had been designed to let you draw the oil out through the dipstick tube. I bought a Topsider vacuum can, which people use to change oil on maritime engines, and it drew the stuff out, all 8 quarts or 6, without issue. The oil filters were right on top. I never needed to crawl under the car.
Wouldn't work with my Buicks, though.

Mine Honda portable generator would start and then shut down after 30 seconds or so. Replaced the oil level sensor and that worked for a bit before the same issue returned. I rewired it, bypassing the sensor and checked the oil level manually before each start.

I've been managing fleets of PCs in some form or other since 1997. The last time I ever had an issue with a Windows Update was 2002 (NT 4.0 was notoriously finicky about Service Packs). It's been at least ten years since I had a BSOD on any Windows device, and the few times it has happened it's been bad hardware.
The vast majority of the "problems" people have with Windows are bad/unsupported hardware.
