8 The TechCrunch article that was posted here yesterday--"ClickFix attacks are tricking Mac and Windows users into hacking themselves"--looks like it would affect a very small numbers of users: people who would have the chutzpah to "Open Terminal, Copy this command, and Paste and run" (that group does not include me) but would NOT see that that was dumb.

11 Oxford Essential Quotations

Sadi
ca. 1213
Persian poet

I never complained at the vicissitudes of fortune, nor murmured at the ordinances of Heaven, excepting once, when my feet were bare, and I had not the means of procuring myself shoes.

I entered the great mosque at Cufah with a heavy heart when I beheld a man who had no feet.

I offered up praise and thanksgiving to God for his bounty, and bore with patience the want of shoes.

usually quoted as ‘I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet’

63 Here's a Christian twist on the sentiment:

There is a 19th-century tradition tracing to Bradford the idiomatic "There but for the grace of God go I" as an expression of humility and reliance on God's grace rather than his own morality. The editor of The Writings of John Bradford, Aubrey Townsend, notes this in his preface:

The familiar story, that, on seeing evil-doers taken to the place of execution, he was wont to exclaim, "But for the grace of God there goes John Bradford", is a universal tradition which has overcome the lapse of time.

I guess it's the story after the story that makes the difference.

Does he walk away feeling better about himself and ignore the other guy completely, or does he realize his own problems are trivial and do something tangible to help the other guy?

Obviously the latter is probably the point of the story. But... you know... i'm just a rotten bastard who assumes everything else is also rotten. So pay me no mind.

I say--sometimes out loud!--"Sucks to be me" when I'm out walking and something irritating happens: like, a parked car pulls out at the last second right into my path or someone on a cellphone suddenly stops right in front of me on a sidewalk. Makes me laugh instead of getting irritated.

87 84 Many a pulpit has warned of Gog and Magog as the coming of the apocalypse and the end of time. The preach it as a scary thing. The Muslims embrace it. The Shia have a special belief in that total war, but the Sunni also are at war with the west to the death.

There is no peace here. It's time to embrace the war.

Let the Four Horseman ride. The Rider of the White horse comes after.

Or, in my agnostic way of thinking, it's time we took this outside.

88 I mean this current circus. I hope we learn that the world generally hates the US and has since 1492. If I could, I would go back in time and kill Moe.

89 I dimly recall a Batman comic of the early Sixties, or perhaps a Fifties reprint, in which a gigantic flying robot called "Magog" is threatening Gotham City. Or maybe there were two of them, a Gog and a Magog. Despite his rep as Sherlock Holmes in a cape and mask, Batman often got up to some outlandish science-fictional escapades.

90 82 "There but for the grace of God go I"

Used to work with someone who, upon hearing of another person's difficult situation, would frequently reply "Sucks to be you."
I think it was some kind of defense mechanism as a substitute for empathy.

That sounds like flat-out empathy to me.

91 Wolfus, what will you get rid of today?

I couldn't see Shemp or Curley doing his job.

93 Heroes & Icons is back to showing episodes of The Rebel and Trackdown with Robert Culp as a Texas Ranger at 5:00 and 5:30 Central respectively. I've seen the complete run of them from back when H & I ran them in the '16-'19 period; there were only two seasons of each, I think. Good stuff in the half-hour format.

95 m,

Earlier commenter said the the entire ME is turning on us. I replied that basically that's not present tense. They Muslims have been against us since Mohammed wrote down his treatise of war, the Koran, around 600 BC.

My follow up means it's time to take off the gloves and wage total war on Islam. Crusades III. The Return of the Templar. And so on.

The bible references are from Revelations, but I guess you knew that.

To "take it outside" means to fight, but I guess you know that too.

However, if total war is not desirable against Islam, I'd settle for making China pay market price for oil.
