Same here, convert all of the XML serializers from document based to forward cursor streaming only. Should allow me to stream massive SOAP envelopes without the GC overhead.

I can't imagine how many days it would take to do this by hand.

38 I was expecting a movie thread, and I finally have a movie related post. We watched "Train Dreams" on Netflix last night. I enjoyed the story, but what really caught me was the cinematography. Every shot is just perfect in terms of color, lighting, framing, etc. Worth a watch if you're in the mood for something contemplative.

51 Evening, Horde. I did hobby-related stuff today. Slapped the last fiberglass patches (I think, LOL) on the main body tube for the dune buggy, and bolted the spacer girdle to the bottom of the body with a whole bunch of 5/16" bolts. Then I flipped it over, and drove Tek screws in between each pair of bolts. A whole bunch of them. Then removed all the bolts. And everything stayed put! No ominous crackling of fiberglass, or heads of screws pulling through from the tension. Woot! Now the body is sitting on the floor pan. No bolts in yet; that's on the agenda for tomorrow.

And I got the ditches mowed, and a bunch of tidying/sorting done in the shop, too.

95 My wife helped me pick a row of concord and Thompson grapes today, and I wound up pressing and canning 7 gallons (28 quarts) of grape juice. Then it started raining.
The good news is that the new ratchet press works very good with a liner in it to keep the grapes from squirting through the staves. The bad news is that I still have to figure out a way to pre-crush the grapes since I had uncrushed grapes left when I cleaned the press out.

There is a way around that, and the Soviets and Cubans did it all the time. Allow serving members of the military to take indefinite leave if they volunteer to become mercenaries for "approved" client States. Military pay stops for the duration, of course. But a bonus could be paid to those who return alive and well. Key takeaway? No soldier has been ordered to go fight in that conflict. If they die there, it's sad, but they knew the risks, but volunteered for the big bucks.

Researched this when I was into homebrewing and came to the conclusion that trying to do so at a scale and quality to even support my own efforts would be way more trouble than its worth. Also very toxic to dogs which was a no-go for my personal situation.

I knew people who did. Hops are stupid easy to grow and it is a question if you want to grow tall vines or lots of short ones. I think the question is how to dry them for storage.
Locally the farmers used forced air heat in large barns to dry the flowers on racks. You might hang the vines to dry in your garage if it is heated and dry.

They make cane presses like that, they are called Trapiche in Spanish. The wineries use a sort of pugmill to pre-crush the grapes, but that is more than what I want. I could run it through a garbage disposal but that grinds up the stems as well, which alters the taste of the juice.

I am going to have to make some drawings.

I wonder if I could build some sort of rotary device like a Foley food mill I use to strain apple sauce

If I correctly recall my readings from "underground" literature of over half a century ago, hops and hemp are the only known relatives of one another (like pandas and raccoons).

There are videos out there of traditional Spanish wine pressing festivals with that sort of thing.

I have been using my hands to squish the grapes in a five gallon bucket. It was all I needed with the old hand-made press, but I have a ratchet press now that takes 15 gallons of fruit at a time, so I need higher throughput, and I don't have a crowd of drunken Spaniards at my beck and call to stomp grapes for me!

Wish I could share pics and data, but alas, me old computer died before I backed it up...

Grew them in cube-shaped planters that hubby built from leftover cedar boards. 2x2x2ft, and filled with 1:1 mixture of Miracle-Gro plotting soil and Kellogg's Soil Amendment (cheap for 3cu ft bags!), then 1/3 bag of bagged compost for each planter. Ordered rhizomes online and planted in early March.

Check your county extension website for recommended varieties, planting times and general care. They're not difficult!
