The EU mandated that tech companies not treat their own products more favourably than competitors', which is insane.
The EU has built its entire existence on getting between the company and the customer. It's worked for them so far, in everything but economic growth, so why change now? Making electronics manufacturers use USB-C for charging ports is about the best thing the EU has ever done in the regulatory space. Some people like their laws on data privacy, which has some good aspects, but mostly that's just a bureaucratic paperwork nightmare and does very little to stop data brokers in the grand scheme of things. Running Kimi K3 on an M5 Macbook at one token per second. (GitHub)
Still painful but 70 times faster than the original version. That's a model that requires 5.6 terabytes of VRAM to run at full precision. I've been trying a new AI for basic help with technical questions lately. It's blazing fast due to some optimizations the company uses (which I couldn't explain if I tried). https://chatjimmy.ai/ I just asked it a basic technical question and the return rate was: "Generated in 0.043s • 14,196 tok/s" Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 09, 2026 05:07 AM (6ydKt) 31

This was my "God incident" from yesterday. I had to pick up spouse from bus depot. There was a lady in a car who said , smiling , "Your husband said "I'm missing my wife" ( I was a bit late) . She was wearing a tee shirt saying "Faith over fear" . I told her I liked her tee shirt and we had a nice conversation about the importance of her faith.

I'm just trying to figure out why I used the word "stories" instead of "posts" when referring to the ONT, the Cafe, etc... I'm going to claim "Up earlier than expected, and no caffeine yet." The lack of caffeine is currently being remedied. And no, we're not AI, unlike the "Cat casita" link in the Cafe. Go through it slowly. Watch for the sudden unexpected changes (not the ones that imply time-skip.) Hint: The sink. And I've finally figured out why AI sets me off so much: It's the deceptions (intentional or not.) @40/m: "I'm not seeing the sink-problem?"
I'll point out some of the problems (not just the sink.) (I downloaded the video, then looked at it in a video player that shows frames, and I can step frame-by-frame in full-screen.) The time-cut nature of the video prepares your mind to accept the sudden changes that happen that shouldn't take place. Prior to Frame 151: Do you see any fresh water or drain pipes for that sink? These are normally installed well before the cabinets or countertop. Frame 151/304: Cabinet for sink appears, with a strange cut out hole in the front. Also, look at how he's positioning the middle peg-board onto the wall at this point. His right hand is supporting the weight of the whole thing by one shelf, while his left hand is fingertip pressed against the face of the back-board, not lifting under the lower edge of the board. Does that seem like realistic physics? Between Frame 175 and Frame 176: The wood panel below where the sink will go (with the weird cut-out shape) disappears, and the sink appears. Why have the panel with the weird cut-out shape at all? That's suspicious. The synchronized "meow" of the two lower cats is... suspicious. It will be the first keynote by the new CEO, John Ternus. They'll be introducing the Apple Watch 12, iPhone 18 Pro and Max, and possibly the second generation iPhone Air. I managed to catch the showing of "Space Seed" and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Watching a TV episode, even in a shoebox cinema, makes things a lot more noticeable. The fight between Khan and Kirk, can really see it's the stunt double instead of Shatner. Or that Uhura has bright green nail polish to go with her matching earrings. The Director's cut of the movie added a few scenes had never seen before. McCoy saying the eyeglasses are 400 years old, extended the scene after Preston dies in Sickbay, and the spirited discussion between McCoy and Spock over the ethics of Project Genesis is also extended. Big screen also helps one realize the bridge for the Kobayashi Maru test has a 'No Smoking' sign. Enterprise leaving space dock, oh to see that beautiful ship on that big screen made me smile. The Apple cultists have been awake for two days in anticipation.
This Garmin Cultist received a Garmin Fenix 9 Pro with InReach yesterday—it was just released a fortnight ago. "Cult" is probably a good term to use since Garmin, Huawei, Amazfit, Google, Samsung, Suunto, Withings and Apple all have good offerings—catering to identity and lifestyle. I went with the outdoor/adventure route. Wonder how many people have smart watches and whine about Flock cameras. Posted by: Community Notes at September 09, 2026 06:46 AM (a4flb) 91

Glad you enjoyed it, Anna.
I think ST II is the last Star Trek film I actually watched in a theater as opposed to waiting for VHS/DVD or cable. Never seen a TV episode on the big screen, either. Did they keep it in 4:3 aspect ratio or stretch it out to fit 16:9? Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 09, 2026 06:47 AM (6ydKt) 93

Posted by: Community Notes at September 09, 2026 06:46 AM (a4flb) Not just watches. "Smart" anything, from your car to your fridge, will track you, or what you're doing with it, these days. Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 09, 2026 06:51 AM (6ydKt) 97

At least a couple things at play: • people with diminished abstract thinking skill care about the now and the immediate. e.g. it take more of my paycheck to fill the tank on my 4x4 ATV. • Mimetic Theory (huge factor) most people don't know what they desire; those desires are largely cultivated externally through tradition, influencers, marketing and other cultural/tribal signals. e.g. tattoos, smart watch brands, some 'woke' cause. That is why trigger words and memes work while reasoned thought only attempts to convert the church choir. Posted by: Community Notes at September 09, 2026 06:54 AM (a4flb) 98
Thank you all. This has been a hard one. Diagnosed in March, In remission after chemo, and then it came on like a tidal wave over the last five days. Yesterday the vet agreed it was time and I brought him home and buried him next to the woods where he loved to run.

Strange to watch video of vibrant lively young people and then hear how it turned out. It might be better not knowing. Posted by: Pete Bog at September 09, 2026 06:55 AM (E9nGU) 100
“He actually said one day in the end, ‘Well, why don’t we have the judge come in and read it again,’ and we were like, ‘No! We have it in front of us. We don’t need that,’ and we would highlight it… But he had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children,” Farina added.

So I had to set up an appointment for Winnie to get her teeth looked at (Greyhounds are notorious for having bad teeth). There was a note on her chart that during her last exam, a heart murmur was detected so the vet wants to do an X-Ray to make sure everything is OK.
I am sure she will remind everyone at the clinic that she is the Best Girl Ever and get lots of attention and treats. Posted by: NR Pax at September 09, 2026 06:58 AM (NR6c1) Processing 0.02, elapsed 0.0217 seconds. |
