The Morning Rant

punk-monkey.jpg

Transfer payments? MORE transfer payments? That is the last thing on earth the United States of America needs, and for the administration to suggest more welfare -- because that is what it is -- suggests that they are unserious about the deficit and the debt.

And for JD Vance to spearhead this wrongheaded policy just adds fuel to the fire that he isn't quite the principled conservative that he would like us to see.

Welfare is a corrosive influence on a culture, even if its intent is in furtherance of conservative ideals: the nuclear family with one parent at home raising children. It expands the deep state by giving government officials control over the decisions of citizens, and it will never end. It distorts the economy by shifting reliance to government, and it impedes the creation of wealth by short-circuiting capital formation and flow, tamping down entrepreneurialism, and is wildly wasteful because it funnels cash through government, which is famously inefficient.

Trump Administration Floats Subsidizing Parents To Raise Children At Home

Officials are drafting a rule that would let married couples with one stay-at-home spouse tap federal child care subsidies, a priority of Vice President JD Vance, the New York Times reported. The plan would carve out a new category the draft calls "parent-based child care," letting one married parent draw assistance to care for their child while the other works at least 35 hours a week, according to the Times.

Hey JD...cut welfare, support strong voting security, continue the administration's work enforcing a strong border and tossing illegals out. No matter what your experience with multigenerational poverty, government is not the answer, and 60 years of Johnson's Great Society has shown us that in most cases, government is the cause!

Shrinking government is the best way to solidify the family in America. Give Americans more of their own money, and the problem will mostly be solved. Getting rid of many millions of illegals who hoover up housing stock and medical care and distort the labor market will pretty much finish the job. If America has it in itself to return to a saner culture, that is the way to give it a chance. More welfare will do the opposite.

And as long as I am giving Vance some advice...deal with your Tucker Carlson problem, or you are going to lose conservative support. The fact that you have not forcefully rejected Carlson's lunacy, which include attacks on President Trump and his policies, suggests that you are trying to please everyone, including Carlson's army of Pakistani bots and America-hating leftists who gobble up Carlson's nonsense.

That's a dangerous path, and one that might not work the way you want.

2 I don't agree with it but I can see the possible long term benefits.

You open up jobs in the economy formerly held by working moms and you have a child raised by a parent instead of the streets.

That said, I grew up with two parents working full time blue collar jobs and I turned out somewhat normal. My father wouldn't have taken a subsidy anyway.

Sir,

Last year we spent $100B on this program. The democrats wanted a $10B increase. We, the fiscally Conservative Party stood firm and only gave them an extra $9B. So as you see we actually cut $1B in spending.

JD actually gave a good response when he was doing the morning press briefing and someone asked him about Tucker. He basically said that he and Tucker disagree about a lot of things, but that he's not going to go down the leftist road of making everything about politics, so he's not going to "cancel" his friend Tucker over differing political views.

He's shrinking it to the max degree that he can alone. Slashing regulations and canning federal workers is great.

But more requires Congress passing laws that repeal existing laws that established programs et al.

It's the same argument over visas. Trump is minimizing them as much as possible, but he can't end then. Congress has to do that.

Hell, maybe if the GOP keeps the House next year, some repeals may get through with a Senate that no longer includes Mitch, Cassidy, Cornyn, or Ernst.

I really like that idea. I thought there was an asian country where you don't pay income tax if you have so many kids. Which is how it should be so welfare leaches don't benefit since they don't work.

I'd also like homeschooling families to be paid directly out of general education funds. Make the schools compete for the dollars. Maybe we'll see less than 69 genders.

Oddly it is still tight, the quote I saw is that salaries are not really keeping up to costs unless you start switching out cheaper food and supplies for what we used to get, and that is all shitified so we get to buy more when it breaks.
I don't see this as a subsidization of families, as it is the first step to supporting parents to have a single working parent and a stay at home mom.

I don't know that he does but you don't know that he doesn't. Since people are saying that Vance is suspect merely for stating that he's friends with Carlson, not knowing isn't really an option. Political candidates should be forced to declare every person with whom they've ever interacted, from birth, and how they agree, or disagree, with their political opinions. Obviously.

Otherwise, this is just people trying to find an excuse to support one politician over another for a reason beyond "he's dreamy and from Florida".

105 So many politicians are being cancelled for what they say, or not saying every thing demanded because of course failure to be perfect means they are not good at all. I remember when . . .

I remember John Cena being celebrated for saying the right things, until he didn't say all the right things while promoting his show in China He was cancelled, and that was celebrated because he was a coward who was being paid to promote a brand and WWE, and thought that was more important than being ideologically correct.

And now JD Vance, who was celebrated for his patriotism, his service, his family, his background, being Trump's VP, his faith and for saying the right things, and now, he won't say all the right things to satisfy you, so he is "untrustworthy" and "perhaps wrong for the job"

I hate that attack. "untrustworthy" is up there with "inappropriate". This is such a mind-op thing to say. It is really bitch move and and a female attack on character. It is so amorphous to be impossible to defend against.

It does have the benefit of turning all political discourse into a hostage video, or a maoist struggle session due to "political deviance" so that will be fun.

And no, this is NOT an entitlement but subject to whatever Congress appropriates for subsidies to daycare centers.

The elites already think they can run the country with AI and robots and don't need a working class anymore. Once they turn 70% of the population into liabilities, then the program will be to reduce those liabilities. One way or another.

Talk to your Congresscritter!

The federal leviathon has only grown for a century. Until the 80s, it was almost all by statute, and even statutory changes and additions kept going until about the middle of Obama's presidency (the ACA was the last major actual policy change passed by Congress, everything else has been arguments over levels of funding, though there were some policy changes in the OBBB, but that wasn't the overall point of it).

To undo it, requires a lot of...statutory language. From Congress.

If Musk was correct, or even Bessent, approximately 800 billion to 1.5 trillion of the current budget is fraud, waste, and abuse of the spending process. Congress cannot tell the executive branch how to spend the money in a program, only that the program must exist and what it does. Its a separation of powers issue. Tucker and Candace are doing the Steve Bannon shtick: veiled references to deep sources, dark information he can't reveal, bitch comments about moral qualities that never get defined, and just outright accusations that are never followed up on. It is a shame, too, because although Tucker is about as interesting politically as Joe Rogan, he could interview people very well, and for a while he could get non-loons to talk with him.

Levin and Beck in contrast are tools, but at least they are clearly doing it for money. Beck needs to support his museums and whims, and Levin apparently has a high burn rate and maintenance cost for his bunker.

Some guys have naturally thick lashes. Of all the things a politician might do to boost his look (Like Desantis' platform cowboy boots, or Trump's spray tan), guyliner is a weird flex.

Not like the other side's coalition doesn't include far more radical thoughts in that vein, but never mind that for now...

I think 90% of the "repeal the 19th" is either trolling or exasperated exaggeration. It is difficult to overstate how horrified men are at seeing so many women go "akshually murdering all your babies isn't so bad"

My wife said the other day (I think we were discussing the Clancy case) that she would gladly give up her right to vote if it would also be taken away from liberal white women.

201 A little ironic, since one of the biggest bits of federal fraud recently uncovered was because they wanted to let gov't subsidies flow to those who decided against institutionalizing their elderly parents and taking care of them at home themselves.

Mrs B's sister is a real piece of work in the best of time. Insufferable really. Covid drove her off the cliff and she gave Mrs B a raft of shit over all the hysterical overreactions. They didn't speak for about four years.

She recently called to visit with Mrs B. She never apologized really, but Mrs B took it as sign of admission she was a little wrong. Which is huge considering it's her.

It has been suggested that the only real choice is who eventually puts an end to women's rights, Islam or some sort of neo-alt-West thing. I hope that isn't the case, but there are times I wonder.

We don't need to import labor. We have a labor pool in waiting all we have to do is stop paying them to not work.

215 From ancient times, paying people to have families has never worked. Trying it again under some pretense of supporting families as a conservative principle will not change that success rate.

1) and will preferring one section of society over another garner more votes?
2) will having a stay at home parent lead to more or less conservative families?
3) what seems to be important now, the next couple of elections, or standing on our rock ribbed principles and telling kids starting a family who can barely pay the rent that they won't get help if they stop paying daycare and the wife stays at home and they should be happy that the conservative world is focusing on their children's eventual economic future should Congress get around to it and they can shut up now?

It's so ridiculous- this whole " Let's repeal votes for women."" I understand many women vote stupidly. So do many men. Talking voting away from women will never happen unless, perhaps, we become a Muslim theocracy - in which case we have much bigger problems than just womens votes being taken away.

Which on its face is a good thing, but again these programs are never about what they claim to be, they're a way for grifters to open the spigot. Its yet another reason in so many for government to not hand out other people's money, even in a very positive cause.
