A family of bears was rescued from a deep cistern in California.

California Fish and Wildlife officials are trying to figure out how to free three bears trapped inside what appears to be a water cistern.

Although they were totally out of control, we should all be happy that they are safe. Perhaps they will learn the error of their ways. Or should I say the bear-or of their ways. No I probably shouldn't say that and neither should you.

And why were the cyclists there? Cyclists should mind their own business and keep their noses out of everything. Probably selling drugs!!!

I think that is a Savannah, but probably an SBT one. Bengals have rosettes, Savannahs have more solid spots. A Savannah should have the spots crossing over the back instead of the stripes, Savannahs should never have marbling, and this one is getting close to that, and the ears should be much larger and more triangular.

But even an imperfect Savannah is a fun cat! And who amongst us doesn’t have a few flaws?

The elder cat is terrified of the outdoors. I carried her outside once on a sunny day and she started crying. The other one is fine with it, and eldest would take her out to play, but of course bugs love cat fur, so we put a stop to that.

Yes, she's doing quite well. As soon as she has healed up, she will have to do some chemo, but it is mild and of short duration - basically killing off the stragglers. She will also get some drug therapy that says "Fuck you in particular" to that specific type of cancer. She's actually relieved because she was afraid she'd get crushing chemo and the oncologist stressed that she would not be given more than she could handle.

One of my cats is a shaded golden Brit Shorthair. His flaw is that the gene that moves the stripes off the tips of the fur isn't strong enough so he has some stripes on the tail and some dusting on the body. He looks like a lion cub.

Way back in the day, my toddler son would waddle to the book shelf and start pulling books onto the floor. Gleefully. He would look at me, grinning while doing so. I actually took a photo or two of him in action. I need to find it. Boys are a caution, that's for sure.

The salt shaker (or perhaps pepper - yes that is what the prop is) is doing the pulse measurement and other life signs, or the medical tricorder can a more complete sort of analysis. He can mix up or generate a number of medications in the hypo device, sometimes he fiddles with it to adjust it.

That "nuclear Mars probe" is Space Reactor-1 Freedom, a test of nuclear-electric propulsion. It will use a constant thrust trajectory to Mars, and deploy the "Skyfall" payload, which is three helicopters to fly around and explore on Mars.

Note this is low thrust, high specific impulse, not Epstein Drive-like high thrust.

Unlike a typical transfer orbit and gravitational-only trajectories, ballistic you might call them, although that's generally not used, it uses a continuous little thrust the whole way.

Japan has sailed beyond 300 percent debt to GDP, the only comparable of that size is China and it is about there with regional and national government debt. Both are aging rapidly, Japan's population is declining and I suspect that China's is there or about to be. MegaRoy has a basket of toys in Junior-ette's room. Every night between midnight and 0400, he'll dig a random one out and drag it into the master bedroom and play with it while 'mrrrp-ing". He has a few repeat favorites, like a plush bunny rabbit he stole from Junior-ette, that get a more frequent turn in the cycle.

Buggy, my triangle headed siamese back in the late 90s had a toddler teething ring he attached himself to. Slept with it, carried it around, etc.

For some numbers, SR-1's thrust will be just 3 to 4 oz. Yes, ounces of thrust.

So, just a little extra non-gravitational acceleration. These low thrust trajectories are interesting. Basically, you do a long outward spiral.

SR-1 will actually take a bit longer to get to Mars than usual, but with much less fuel mass than usual. That's what high specific impulse, but low thrust does for you.

Yes, they can tap their card or their phone using their digital wallet. Or their Apple Watch, even. I still have the ability to swipe or you can always manually enter a card number as a back up. It connects into my POS on my iMac.

Handheld X-ray Fluorescence Analyzers. Figure on 30,000 bucks or so. But they will become cheaper, I'm sure. If you know bulk composition, and plug in other things like color, crystal habit, and associated minerals, you can probably nail the identity of the mineral under the spot beam.

There are actually several countries with "gun cultures," Germany among them. France also has a non-trivial rate of civilian firearms ownership. The Czechs lifted a lot of restrictions because of fears of external/internal issues, and Poland is embracing the "nation in arms" concept and encouraging gun clubs as deterrence against Russia.

All the Baltics are planning on Guerilla warfare as well. The arms are not in homes, but in caches to be accessed after the Russians move past.

A huge chunk of glacier broke off a mountain and plummeted down. Don't hold me to it, but IIRC that chunk was about 2000' wide, and it fell on the order of 4000' down. There may have been some rock under it that gave way.

German and French firearms ownership is around 30%, which is low to us, but much better than the UK. In fact, one could argue that American gun culture is because of Germany, which lacked the class distinctions of the English. The whole notion of the independent riflemen comes from Jaegers, not upper-class twits shooting birds.

Things have doubtless changed since I was there 10 years ago, but you could buy knives and swords and maces in Germany without anyone caring. Not at all like the UK.

I was reading and listening some more about "climate change" over the late Pleistocene through the Younger Dryas and into our current Holocene.

That puts all this climate change nonsense in perspective. What's happening now is nothing compared to what Erf can do and has done many times. The current glacial retreat got really started back in the early 1800s, coming off the advance due to the "Little Ice Age".

We had the Maunder Minimum, and the glaciers advanced a little. That ended, and here we are. The current "warming" is just part of the oscillation well apparent over thousands of years.

A huge chunk of glacier broke off a mountain and plummeted down. Don't hold me to it, but IIRC that chunk was about 2000' wide, and it fell on the order of 4000' down. There may have been some rock under it that gave way.

The usual suspects are screaming globull warmmuning of course, but tectonic uplift likely had as much to do with it as melting.

318 My happy fun day was reorganizing my reloading area. Disassembled some rounds using my Piledriver which does a good job on rifle ammo.

Found 1k 7.62x51 and about 250 or so of Garand 30-06 already preloaded on clips. Plus some assorted other range fodder. Thought those boxes had old holsters in them.

Plus I found a bunch of cassette tapes, figured they would be demagnetized by now--nope, played just fine. 70's and 80's galore in cassette tapes.

If you want X, you will, if you don't then you won't but the third party apps are unlikely to continue to be able to access X.

I used a throwaway Gmail account email and provided the minimum.

Then again, I have paid id protection services that notify me of data brokers buying my info and I request and they have to follow laws that remove that data.

I use a free service every now and again that gives privacy scans to check up on the original service. My profile online is pretty thin.
