Salty, while there are legitimate concerns about the rapid expansion of both AI and data centers, much of it is ridiculous hype being pushed by our adversaries, most notably China.
Whether we like it or not, AI is coming and it will affect virtually all walks of life including national security. China is not slowing down on their development which largely means stealing from us and doing whatever they can to disrupt our own development of AI.
We need adult conversations about governance and restrictions on AI just like all technology but the overheated claims that AI is inherently evil is just dumb.

Deb Haaland, candidate for gov in NM, will probably win. She's big on free stuff and a Dem. Also Indian (feather). One problem she might have is with the Navajo Nation. As Biden's Interior Secretary she shut down oil exploration and drilling on Navajo lands, leaving them heap big PO'd. Something strange about that state. They've been on a tear trying to steal every LLM model out there. Of course they want the US to quit the race for AI and datacenters to leverage it.
The possibilities for military use are huge. It was reported that Anthropic's AI client "Claude" was used to plan some of the Maduro snatch and grab operation.

Love that Cheers clip about Kale. I’ve grown kale, but only as an ornamental in the winter. Some varieties have a nice purple color and are quite cold resistant. I wouldn’t eat it, though. Tried it a couple times - kind of like bitter construction paper.

I spotted the danger of Facebook close to the beginning when people still thought it was a good way to talk to grandma. Probably posted about it here.
The clue to me was two things: the blue color they chose for it and the fact that you couldn't change your layout like MySpace or anything before it.

It's hard to say how effective the attacks on the USAID apparatus have been, and I generally tend to be less sanguine than others about these things - these are yuuuge, luxurious edifices of corruption and they're hard to besiege with any degree of success.

Even with that caveat, I'm hopeful that the siege on their treasury has weakened them too much to attack during this campaign season - discretion isn't one of their virtues, and "de l'audace, encore de l'audace, et toujours de l'audace!" is their standing order at all times.
