Blue Shithole Cities Have Rampant Crime in Their Public Transit Systems.
They Could Slash Crime By Simply Stopping Fare-Evaders
Plus: Spanish Citizens Set Fire to the Shanty Town Put Up by Moroccan Invaders

Really? The very people whose first encounter with public transit systems is to commit a crime by jumping the turnstile turn out to also commit a huge amount of crime once they're in the system?

Who could have guessed this?

City Journal argues that instead of wasting money on programs already shown to be ineffective, Congress should just fund full-height fare gates that cannot be jumped as turnstiles can be.

Last November, 72-time arrestee Lawrence Reed poured gasoline on a CTA Blue Line passenger in Chicago and set her on fire. The incident was so egregious that the Federal Transit Administration got involved, threatening to withhold $50 million in federal funds unless the CTA enhanced systemwide security. The CTA implemented its plan in March, but the benefits have been hard to detect so far.

Congress is poised to repeat the FTA's ineffective intervention. The Surface Transportation Reauthorization--the government's five-year approval of road and rail funding--features several similar attempts to improve public safety.

Fortunately, America's major transit systems have a better option to reduce crime and disorder: installing full-height fare gates, which keep criminals out of transit systems. Congress should require and fully fund the installation of new full-height fare gates for all systems that don't yet have them.

Transit officials report that serious crimes are committed overwhelmingly by people who evade fares. In the Los Angeles Metro system, 97 percent of people who committed a violent crime didn't pay. In Washington, D.C., 99.5 percent of those who committed a "Part 1" crime (homicide, rape, robbery, arson, or motor vehicle theft) had dodged the fare. In New York, MTA CEO Janno Lieber says that "virtually all" crimes are committed by fare evaders.

...

Other systems report similar findings. Washington, D.C.'s WMATA found that, following its own modernized fare-gate installation, fare evasion fell by 82 percent and crime by nearly 40 percent. L.A. Metro reports that a pilot program for modernized fare gates reduced passenger reports of security concerns, uncleanliness, and vandalism and graffiti by 69 percent at affected stations.

I know we don't like Congress funding state or city systems, but apparently they're determined to throw taxpayer money at the problem. Might as well do something that can actually fix things.

Except... would it? These shithole cities refuse to stop fare evaders. Congress can pay for new fare gates, but it can't actually force shithole cities to enforce the payment of fares. If you've ever been in a subway, you know there is a floor-to-ceiling gate at every entrance that are opened for people with wheelchairs or baby-strollers, who cannot go through the turnstiles.

And you also know that criminals rush through these gates when they're opened and hold them open for their hoodlum friends.

Manhattan Institute
@ManhattanInst

The numbers here are insane:

In the L.A. Metro system, 97% of people who committed a violent crime evaded the fare. In D.C., 99.5% of those who committed a “Part 1” crime (homicide, rape, robbery, arson, or motor vehicle theft) had dodged the fare.

In New York, MTA CEO Janno Lieber says that “virtually all” crimes are committed by fare evaders.

Speaking of broken windows: The left-wing media and socialist Spanish president Dirty Sanchez say that "almost all of the migrants in Ceuta" have returned home.

As usual, they're lying.

Citizens say their socialist government is not dealing with the problem, just claiming it's resolved, and have resorted to every citizens' option of last resort, self-help.

Georg Pazderski
@Georg_Pazderski

The Ceuta public spirit is boiling over!

Thousands of Spanish citizens are revolting in CEUTA and demanding the expulsion of the migrants, which the Spanish government did not want or rather prevented.

They are now taking the law into their own hands and setting fire to the migrants' slum huts and driving them away from the beach.

11 One of the things I've not seen publicized that much is what the illegals that got there before the others are doing. They, basically, took over the medical facilities by claiming illness.

In Spain, it is against the law to toss someone out of a medical care facility. It is a long drawn out process to get someone to leave regardless of how outlandish or false their complaints happen to be. So, the first illegals to arrive at Ceuta ran right to the local hospital and claimed illness....which provided them with a domicile, three meals, television etc.

When they finally do get tossed, they just make a different illness complaint, or someone else pops in to take their place. Locals can't even use their own medical facilities regardless of the emergency. So, obviously, the locals have had enough. They can't burn down their local hospital, but Shanty towns are on the menu, boys.

Why would anyone deny another human medical attention? They can still deport them when the Red Cross is done?

I will never understand why people immediately lose their humanity and turn into howling violent maniacs just because someone crossed an imaginary line in the dirt.

Surprise: racist colonizers are acting like racist colonizers. They benefit from the unjustly lower wages paid to exploited migrant workers while trying to impede said migrants' access to basic necessities. Sounds in-character for people with politics like this. Why does Congress have to fund it?

If you're city is large enough to have a subway/mass transit, shouldn't it have enough fund to cover the cost of fare gates, too?

Ya know, just to help pay for said mass transit by preventing fare jumpers?

220 Not that it would ever happen but the perfect punishment for turnstile jumping or fare evasion would be-

Public Caning like they have in Singapore

Administered the same day they're caught.

Discourages repeat offenders. Low cost, no jail time. Humiliating and painful.

Twenty or thirty good seats from a professional caner and those a-holes won't be back for more.

222 The leftist boards I peruse are pining for a general "demagafication" and expunging all forms of Trumpism, arrests, and yes, demolishing the ballroom. They describe it as analogous to blowing up nazi swastikas at the Reichstag. I'm certain that none of us are quite cognizant of just how bat-shit insane the left has become. They're a bunch of theater kids who think they are the main characters in a pre-written drama. They have no idea how kinetic action works and are convinced that because they are abject physical cowards but also Stunning and Brave, the rest of the right is even more fearful.

These lunatics saw Trump take a bullet and their cope was saying it was staged. Think about that. Think about having the guts to order someone to shoot you in the ear. That's insane levels of courage, not a coward's tactic.

When I'm in a privately owned place that has rules and I respect the owner I abide by them.

You don't even have to be super smart to get this. Try it, who knows, you might not get banned every 15 minutes and change your name and IP cause none of us can figure out who you are in 5 seconds.

I think these charity & aid groups can do a lot of good in certain situations where people need help.

But they have been corrupted by the long march through the institutions like everything else.

So you either reform them, or you break them and start over.

I've always thought Heinlein's punishment system from Starship Troopers was pretty good. Fines for really small shit, lashes for intermediate things, hanging for the bad stuff. Get it done and over with in a manner which, hopefully, makes in impression on the malefactor, and doesn't waste tax dollars on warehousing people.

Its the weird bent of those like you here. And you are not alone. Its the "trust the process" DNA of your sub-type.

Get this. Everything does NOT have to turn out well. You hate that message. I do get it.

I don't get the "burn the heretic" response. OK - I get that too. As well as the general scold response of controlling the narrative.

Ceuta has been Spanish for over 400 years. Once you start redrawing boundaries to be 'fair' then you bring on a whole lot of miseries that are best avoided by using status quo instead.

Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age had a similar system for punishment in the Chinese-controlled "Middle Kingdom." Lashings were common for minor infractions. Serious crimes like murder meant that you were injected with small nanobots that would explode when the authorities decided to push a button. Simple and effective.

The Spaniards might find their balls after all.

Their ancestors have a long and proud history of stomping on invaders, and have done their share of invading as well.

If I can please have the contact information for the leader of the protecting brigades, I will send my personal regards.

Take note of such action, and please engage your own before bragging about "Do That in a Small Town" because Texas is on the way to being another POS invasion center. They tried it in a small town and have been all too successful.
