Trump Links a Just the News Report Suggesting That Ilhan Omar is Being Investigated by ICE for Immigration Crimes

As JJ mentioned in the morning briefing, Trump seemingly confirmed that there is an active probe into Ilhan "Omar's" immigration crimes.

Specifically, he shared this report from Just the News, which noted that ICE had refused a FOIA request for information about Ilhan Omar's immigration status, citing "enforcement proceedings."

That is: We do not discuss pending investigations.

ICE refuses to disclose records on Ilhan Omar fraud probe, cites ongoing 'enforcement proceedings'

It's All in the Family: The agency claims that releasing documents related to an investigation into the lawmaker's alleged immigration fraud would, under the law, interfere with "enforcement proceedings."

The federal government is refusing to turn over records related to an investigation conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement into allegations of immigration fraud by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., citing a legal exemption for ongoing investigations.

Just the News filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the records in January, seeking the records pertaining to any investigations conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement into the allegations that Rep. Omar, who represents Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, married a relative in order to help him remain in the country.

Omar has denied the allegations. No court records, DNA evidence, or other documentary proof has ever substantiated that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, Omar's legal husband from 2009--2017, was her biological brother.

"ICE has determined that the information you requested is being withheld in full pursuant to Title 5 U.S.C. § 552(b)(7)(A). Disclosure of any responsive records at this time could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings," ICE told Just the News in response to the FOIA in May.

The FOIA exemption cited by the agency "applies to records or information compiled for law enforcement purposes when their release could disrupt such proceedings," the reply reads.

...

Earlier this year, Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the Justice Department was reviewing the allegations.

"I don't want to prejudge an investigation," Vance said. "It certainly seems like something fishy is there. If we think that there's a crime, we're going to prosecute that crime, and that's something the Department of Justice is looking at right now."

The allegation that Omar's second husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, is related to her, or even her brother, first surfaced during her 2016 election campaign for a seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives. At the same time, allegations emerged that when she married her second husband she was still married to her first.

...

President Donald Trump has repeatedly invoked the claim that Omar "married her brother" in order to get him into the country, accusing her of committing immigration fraud.

"She married her brother in order to get in, right? She married her brother. Can you imagine if Donald Trump married his sister?" He also called for her removal, saying, "We ought to get her the hell out," Trump said at a December 2025 rally.

The National Pulse suggests there may be other grounds to denaturalize her:

The records may concern longstanding allegations that Omar's 2009 marriage, to a Somali man claimed by some to be her brother, was fraudulent and arranged to benefit his immigration status. It may also relate to the fact that she may have failed to disclose her family's role in allegedly committing war crimes in Somalia.

Posted by: nckate at August 25, 2026 12:36 PM (enNUy)

I would attribute it to Betty Frieden and the Feminine Mystique. I hope I'm not mixing up people and books. I'm thinking of the one where a comfortably well-off white woman railed against the men of her high class (by any historical perspective) for placing women in such an oppressive gilded cage, but framed as a screed against men in general.

It has always been the case that men and women joshed each other, as a kind of jockeying for favorable treatment within a context of secure attachment between the sexes. But that began to break down as man-hating lesbians skin-suited academia in the '70s, and their vitriol trickled down to high-school girls by the time of Gen-X's adolescence.

They say, dress for the job you want, and even lower-middle class white women were adorning themselves in the raiment of man-bashing as teens, long before they ever even had an upper-class man in their sights. And over time, the original context was lost, and teasing became genuine man-hating.

Immigration lawyers are getting fined the maximum amount for filing false asylum claims.

Asylum disapproval rates are at historic highs (roughly 95%).

The admin is revoking visas at historic rates (just announced to revoke 200,000 tourist and temporary work visas the other day). On top of TPS ending for literally ever group under them.

All legal immigration categories are down double digits percentage from 2024-25 (new H1-B visas are down about 80%).

ICE keeps humming along, picking up people in major operations.

Self-deportations probably continue (story recently about Somalis losing their TPS and fleeing to Canada).

The admin is squeezing from every direction, and it's working. And Republicans losing Congress will change literally none of it.

21 Strategically as Democrats, you welcome this fight. A) it'll go nowhere, B) more headlines to fill the narrative of Trump/Republicans failures to address the economy, and attempts to deflect from it.

The more Republicans are failing to talk about bread and butter issues, the better for Democrats at this juncture and in 2028.

Congress will very quietly push back behind the scenes on this (even while publicly cheering it). They don't want the next administration rounding them up.

Even if they succeed in kicking Omar out, do they think she will be replaced with a moderate Democrat or a Republican? Omar’s district is the most progressive in Minnesota.

It’s the point of going after political opponents. The headline is all they needed for their base

It is amazing, and troubling, how fully MAGA has swallowed that "married her brother" bullshit.

Affordability, affordability, affordability! People can’t afford to buy a house or pay rent or groceries or gas or healthcare. The GOP are desperate to distract us.

17 months is plenty of time for breeding. Breeding happens all the time through the process, and it's a question of overproducing in the face of new deregulatory pressures.

17 months isn't enough time to go from babe to ready for processing. It's enough to increase the size of the herd, though.

They tried to game the system and maximize profits because they have an effective monopoly.

One of the big problems they had in Europe and "DeNazification" was that for over a decade you pretty much had to be a Nazi to stay in government. Once the war was over, if they precluded former Nazis from government there wasn't hardly anybody left, except for Communists, and that wasn't going to work either.

That will require an act of Congress.

The Trump admin is doing everything it can on its own. Border is closed, so illegal immigration is over. But visa issuance is also down massively, but Trump can't just stop most of it on his own. Statutes are written in ways that give the presidency little latitude about how few visas of each type he can give out.

That's the point of the $100,000 fee for H1-Bs. He can't end the program on his own, but he can write rules to make it harder and more expensive to use.

If we somehow keep the House in November, I think we could see some action on getting more immigration restrictions codified with the changes we'll see in the Senate (Mitch, Cornyn, Cassidy, Tillis, and Ernst all gone).

But on immigration policy, I have been mildly astonished that the MSM or even the pro corporatist conservative media like Salem have not been able to manage to get mass sympathy and revulsion from the American public over the mass deportations.

Trump has shifted the Overton window with the help of the Biden crew as to what is acceptable.

Even in Europe, it is shifting to the point that Polish government is actively warning migrants that attempts to climb the fence warrant being shot.

Two new rules, the 103k replacing the old 100k fee is based on rulemaking for economic costs to US employees per a Congressional law provision. Situation like tariffs, the initial order has gotten into legal trouble but the newer rulemaking like on retaliatory tariffs based on specific calculations are harder to overturn legally in high court.

The other is a revising of the non cap 401 which are ngos and universities are going to get tightened. And the OPT and various other education visas leading to work visas are getting tightened a lot too. No 30 day grace period to monkey branch after expiration for example. No all online classes to qualify for educational visa stays, etc. etc.

They stole the election from Trump, started using the government as their personal hammer and funding mechanism and were moving in the direction of nullification of all future elections. In that time and scenario now action seemed a bridge too far or too extreme. Shit, they used Covid to completely undermine the Bill of Rights and practically zero happened to them. There really were not any consequences.

Then came Trump II and everything that followed.

They thought they were in the end game where their thousand year reich was about to begin. Then it evaporated.

BTW that people are thinking of electing Democrats to any office, no less a majority after everything that happened completely ignored what happened a few years ago.

135 119 The other is a revising of the non cap 401 which are ngos and universities are going to get tightened. And the OPT and various other education visas leading to work visas are getting tightened a lot too. No 30 day grace period to monkey branch after expiration for example. No all online classes to qualify for educational visa stays, etc. etc.

Posted by: whig at August 25, 2026 01:49 PM (E4rtv)

======

It's my understanding that the admin's approach to the OPT program is to establish fraud and follow APA to the letter in order to lay the groundwork to undo it completely since it's a regulatory creation instead of a statutory one.

They don't want a repeat of DACA.

2023 and 2024 were the biggest years for granting H1-B visas in American history.

At least 3 years for each (with the one extension after three for another term) means that those in 2023 will be facing their first real hurdles this year in terms of staying.

And the admin does have authority to remove the visas on an individual basis due to fraud, but I believe that has to be tight enough on each basis to survive in court if the admin is going to try it at the mass level.

142 Omar committed immigration fraud according to the statute. The actions she undertook are clearly grounds for removal and denaturalization. In fact they are textbook. That she was elected to office has zero bearing on the facts of the case. None. In fact you could argue her fraud, enabled her to gain access to public office.

A lot of the low level were either 'refugees' or illegals from S. of the border and they gravitated toward welfare plus whatever they could make on the jobs--construction, stocking shelves, whatever.

Those from China or the subcontinent of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc. and ME muzzies are often here on work or educational visas, not all but probably a majority of those immigrants and they are out to take jobs from the American middle and even upper class now. Medicine, engineering, computer sci, etc. Now even jobs like public relations (see recent Texas State Univ kerfluffle).

And that is part is probably why no reaction on immigration curtailment, the upper and middle class are getting gored or their kids are now.

The cheap illegals across the border were doing crap to make things cheap for the middle and upper classes--cheap construction, cheap tree service, cheap lawn care, etc.

The very best, however, is when one girl tapped in my space. You can see my big mouth yapping to the dancing instructor stage right and pointing to her. She does nothing so I strong arm this girl right outta my space. While tapping. My father loved it.

They went full Leroy Jenkins on immivasion because they are bugmen. Leftists do not have principles and structure like you or I. I have worked with them, and they operate like a nest or hive, where each is allowed to pursue his own priorities as he sees fit, and they just kind of trust that the end result will suit.

It's effective, because it uses the Invisible Hand; but it's an appallingly amoral misapplication. "Respect the diversity of tactics" ultimately means, "Don't criticize anyone, even pedo groomers and psycho thugs." And each issue is managed by those most passionate about it, with no input from the rest.

295 The Democrat brand became inevetiably flawed when they gravitated away from a majority view in exchange to a bunch of niche "one issue" groups. Many of which are diametrically opposed to each other (IE: Gays/Muslims).

Instead of a general position, they allow the niche groups to promote their "single issue", and since a significant number of these groups are radical, that "single issue" is usually some outlandish outlier position. Then, they depend on all the other niche groups to fall in line and support them because they will get that same support on their own issue.

The problem is that the other groups can't debate the issue because they don't understand the reasoning or care. Finally, it's why democrats don't campaign on issues anymore. They campaign against the opponent. They rarely know what their own candidate stands for. That's how you get Nazi tattooed candidates, and Sharia Law candidates.

My 10 year old girl child referred to a mom of one of her teammates as 'the one with Danger Hair,' and I was so proud.

=======

Democrats will deliver on their promises.

And they promise to open the borders and give citizenship to all illegals.

In order to advance my central issue of immigration enforcement, I will vote Democrat.

300 Why is this low iq inbred savage even in the United States to begin with? Send her back and hopefully to a painful death.

301 295 The Democrat brand became inevetiably flawed when they gravitated away from a majority view in exchange to a bunch of niche "one issue" groups.

Nice argument. Seems to fit with empirical evidence.
