12 Heated car seats, what luxury. As a small boy I hated riding in the back seat and freezing. A that time I could get on my knees and hang out almost into the front seat. Perfect place to become a windshield splat in an accident. But hell, I lived through it without a through in the world.

18 Interesting article on Ali-Express fingerprinting. I've purchased exactly two things from them, each weeks apart, both purchases slightly under $500, and both were fine. The payments went through, all was well (or so I thought.)

Then, I wanted to order a bunch of electronic components, put my order through, and... nope. Some type of unknown security problem with my account. No explanation. Did some digging and a LOT of people had previously had that problem, and there's no resolution for it. You delete your account, then re-create it, apparently, and that fixes it (for a time.)

(No, I don't remember the exact error message, this was over a year ago.) The practical upshot though was you could shop all you wanted, you just couldn't check out (kind of an e-vendor version of Hotel California.)

In Firefox, I use uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, NoScript, Port Authority, but most importantly for this post: Canvas Blocker (which blocks fingerprinting attempts by returning random data.)

Now I'm wondering if their site autoflagged my account as "unfingerprintable". "Go away, we can't sell your data so you're not a good 'customer' to us."

30 The George Harrison music track: How appropriate considering the articles the past two days about cassette tapes. The last time I had this "album" was on cassette, but I don't think the cassette version had that specific track (a common problem on longer albums, sometimes you didn't get everything because of the time limits of the cassette format.)

36 Big black Stirling had his day at the vet yesterday. He's quite healthy . . . but he has gained almost two pounds in the last year -- going from 13.5 to 15.5! He's a big-framed cat, he can carry it; he doesn't look like a skinny but pregnant female cat. But no wonder he seems like a battleship. He wasn't born, he was launched!

The diet procedure: less dry food in the mornings and evenings, and I have to make sure he doesn't get what Dagny leaves. I'll pick up her bowl and only put it back down when she comes back into the kitchen and gives me The Look. And there'll be a little more exercise for the black one, too.

41 I've been keeping a password book since 2018 or so. There was the first edition, and once I retired I copied everything over into a second notebook and have added to it. The first one is still here in case I ever lose the second. I need to update the first with the later additions so I have a backup.

No way I was going to put everything onto a file on my computer, and not be able to access it because I'd forgotten the initial login. Nor do I save things to The Cloud, which, as people here point out, is equivalent to Someone Else's Computer.

I forgot to post it. Quick summary: Some damage to the meniscus, and I do have arthritis. I had the PA give me a cortisone shot and we'll follow up in three months to check options. Thankfully, I am not a candidate for knee replacement.

Glad your son is doing well. When your feet are sore, the rest of you is miserable.

He killed a mouse earlier this year -- at least I suppose it was him; he was tracking it for a few days before I found the corpse on the bedroom floor. No, just more play time. He has a fluffy mouse toy on a cord he loves to jump up and seize. I'll see if he will chase it along the ground, too. He's not a slug; he plays chase with Dagny all the time.

He's only 4.5 years old, too early to be overweight and maybe head into diabetes.

57 We had friends over for dinner on Saturday night and I made a raspberry syrup to put over vanilla ice cream as a simple dessert (just add a few toasted almond slivers, and you'll love it). To make the syrup throw two pints of berries into a sauce pan with a little sugar and about a quarter cup of fresh lemon juice and put on a low heat, stirring for about ten minutes, and thne pour through a mesh of some sort, and voila! Syrup.

The best part is that what remains after you do that is freshly made raspberry jelly. Just spoon it into a mason jar and your toast will thank you.

I'm cutting down on the dry food and increasing the canned for both of them. At their age they are no longer growing. A little of it is good for their teeth, I think -- certainly Stirling's are in good shape. But too much is like a sugary cereal for kids.

62 I use the KeePass Password Safe so I have all my passwords in one encrypted file, easily backed up onto a USB drive. And then I ruin it by letting my browsers save them for convenience, which is relatively hackable. But at least I don't lose them myself.

If he needs steel toe (Since I don't recall what kind of work he does), start with looking at Red Wing and Danner. And there are safety shoes with a plastic toe instead of metal which tends to be a bit more comfortable.

And have him see if his company will pay for it. I've worked with companies that had a budget every year for us to get work shoes.

Admittedly, for the password safe to be of best utility, it should have a very strong password itself. Mine is 16 random characters, including upper case, lower case, numbers, and special characters. But I made sure to use the same for my Windows login, so that I would use it all the time. And it's also written down on a slip of paper in my wallet, just in case.

Fen, just be aware that the high-cost, hoity-toity, high-falutin' work shoe brands last no longer than any other shoe. Work shoes for like nurses and such, I mean, not boots like Red Wings. The cushioning will give out long before the sole and upper. Keep him using the inserts. Spenco inserts are the best, unless you can find prescription ones if he needs arch supports.

When I worked ten hour days in the packing sheds, I started wearing Birkenstocks. The cork soles are good padding and comfortable on hard concrete floors. Since that might not be his style, just spend the money for a good pair of shoes. Doc Martens are good too.

I store my passwords in a well.
what I do is, I get a staff, certain height, and it has a headpiece
the sun shines thru the headpiece at a certain time of day, and shines a beam right on the location of the passwords.

Downside is, it only works 2 times a year.

KeePass is the way. Though I didn't realize until recently that there are a bunch of different front-ends for it. I've always used the stock UI.

Fen, just be aware that the high-cost, hoity-toity, high-falutin' work shoe brands last no longer than any other shoe. Work shoes for like nurses and such, I mean, not boots like Red Wings. The cushioning will give out long before the sole and upper. Keep him using the inserts. Spenco inserts are the best, unless you can find prescription ones if he needs arch supports.
