Image of the moon transiting the earth,
taken by the DISCOVR satellite from a
million miles away

Supposedly that's real. NASA says so. But then, they faked the moon landing, so grain of salt.

Whoops on the timing. I thought I posted this.

Video of an 1880 AD grist mill on Prince Edward Island. The images are nice but I'm mostly linking it because finally, at age Nearly 29, I bothered to look up the actual meaning of "grist." It means (drum roll): "grain to be milled."

Okay so that's not the biggest surprise in the world but it's nice to have it all out in black and white.

Baby elephant hiding under mama's skirts.

A bear, and her cubs, are out-of-control as usual, this time using a family's pool as they please.

Abandoned premature foal, too weak to stand, is nursed into being a healthy boy.

Mama elephant wants to eat grass but baby elephant won't stop playing with her food.

Scared Golden retriever is afraid of everything but likes babies enough to become a fuzzy nana.

Baby learns head-butting from the best.

This baby is also learning how to baby goat.

Why do people say they don't like cats?

Cat and dog rocking out to Yes.

These woke sons-of-bastards are trying to take away our Elemenohpee.

Thank you to everyone who offered condolences for Dutchess. It was hard to let her go, but not a hard decision to do so. She was bleeding internally and Doc said it pointed to hemangiosarcoma.

Dutchess was a lovely, unlucky girl. She had epilepsy that manifested itself at a young age, precluding a career either in the show ring or the field. For nearly 10 years I had to give her medicine morning and night. While jumping and spinning around Mommy, she shattered her hock and was crate-bound for six weeks. Yet she was always a merry little girl.

Her last month was spent as a house dog when we brought everyone up. Being near Mommy and Daddy, treats and yummy greasy bread were her fate, poor thing.

Rest well, sweetheart, and wait for us.

40 I saw a couple of old airplane disaster flicks on TCM, "The High and the Mighty" and "The Crowded Sky". You can really see the DNA that begat "Airplane!", and it's not just the stolid presences of Dana Andrews and Robert Stack. I could barely stifle a snorffle every time the camera zoomed in for a closeup and wavy dissolve as the character had an important character reveal flashback, or an inner monologue ("Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home.").

My current pair is ALLSWIFIT, some rando Chinee shoes off Amazon, as I had worn holes in my soles and just needed something fast and cheap to hold me over until I could give the matter more consideration. They're comfortable and the sizing is correct, but the originally thick soles are predictably wearing down from all the sidewalk and street walking that I do, several miles a day every day.

You can see from the promotional photos that they're aimed at casual urban pedestrians, and people who work on their feet (barista, medical assistant) but not outdoors. According to AI, the product code on the tag is for a model alternatively called 'SwiftPlush' or 'ActiveSolid', but whatever, these look right:

"Laura Loomer

Tom Barrack @USAMBTurkiye, the Ambassador to Turkey has been called back to Washington DC this week for “consultations”.

In State Department lingo, this is the term for having your ass handed to you by your boss @SecRubio.

This comes after Barrack sparked an International incident this weekend and almost started a regional war between Israel, Turkey and Syria by falsely accusing Israel of illegally occupying the Golan Heights.

A source at the State Department told me, “we want him gone so badly we might hire packers to pack his belongings for him.”

Barrack may not make it back to Turkey.

We could only hope to be so lucky.

You honored the most important commandment of pet ownership, the 10th one:
10. When I am old, or when I no longer enjoy good health, please do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having fun. Just see to it that my trusting life is taken gently. And be with me on that difficult journey when it’s time to say goodbye. Never say, “I just can’t bear to watch.” Everything is easier for me when you are there. I will leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands.

120 Tom Barrack has been one of Trump's closest friends for decades. He fronted the bill for Trump's first inauguration.

Trump didn't just pick his name out of hat and stick him in one of the most pivotal countries in his plan to change the world power structure by chance.

He might have gone off the reservation. Or maybe the garbage media has no fucking idea what's going on as they usually don't. Might be worth taking a click to figure out which.

122 The way a dog loves his people is the image of how people need to love God. Unconditionally, with complete trust and total satisfaction. That kind of absolute love is not replaceable, nor easy to fake, or create all on one's own. It is the result of God giving His grace to all creatures, and particularly to us, the pinnacle of His creation.

That sort of gift lasts only a while, and then in memory, until we see it again in Heaven. Too much of it, and we would forget Heaven and stay with the dogs. Just enough, and we know we are loved from above and below. Nothing better in the world than that.

124 Well, I put on my newly-minted backhoe operator hat today, and dug a big hole in an effort to find the leak in my septic tank. Must have moved 3 yards of dirt. Got a hole about 4 feet deep, with a deeper pit in the corner, hand-dug. Exposed the tank, and the joining flange between the two halves, and I think I found the leak. As I expected (from viewing the inside of the tank with a camera on a stick), a flange bolt rusted away, and water pressure from inside caused the flange to crack at that point. At that depth, the tank is bedded in loose gravel, with perms out the ying-yang, so any water leaking out could find its way to the gravel under the house foundation.

I figure I can fix it. Tank is fiberglass, and it can be bonded with resin and mat. The flange bolts are rusted to conical blobs, and the lowest one I reached so far fell right out, and the joint is gaping a bit there. I drilled 3/8" holes on either side of the 3 bolts above that point, and put in some new bolts, to forestall the gap from spreading. Will need to dig deeper, yet. Moving gravel with a hand trowel is tedious.
