Polishing the UI for the Movie Vault manger module.
If I do say so myself, it's pretty freaking awesome. The best feature is the naming tokenizer. Sometimes when you acquire media, it has all kinds of extra fluff added to it, what this does is analyze the string, tokenizes each word into a drag and drop object that you can then arrange how you want. This is especially useful for TV shows with multiple seasons and multiple episodes. Posted by: Thomas Bender at August 19, 2026 07:57 PM (XV/Pl) 24

I saw a video the other day of a famous wildlife photographer (Carlos Carvalho), and it answered a question of mine that has puzzled me for ages.
How does a giraffe defend itself? Sure, it's tall, but I couldn't figure out why lions or some other predator doesn't just take it down. I, always, assumed the giraffe has a wicked kick, but they seem so slow. But, this video cleared things up at the expense of Mr. Carvalho, unfortunately. This giraffe just wound up and hammered the photographer with its neck. It was fast, and as the late Mr. Carvalho would attest (if he could), it was instantaneous death. The customer can have any color they want as long as it's black.
----- There's a little bit of misconception on that, actually. Ford offered all the different colors before this policy, but they cost more, and importantly they took a lot longer to dry. Ford went to black enamel or whatever it was, because it dried faster than anything else available which allowed higher production numbers. That was just one more cost efficiency that allowed him to sell a new car for 800 dollars or whatever it was. Posted by: Common Tater at August 19, 2026 08:34 PM (Uf/zI) 79

Part 15 transmitters are legal to broadcast at home. Kits, pre-wired stuff, etc. Find an unused frequency and you can broadcast tunes from say, your iPod or whatever, to your antique or collectible AM radio.
Kinda fun, actually. Especially since there isn't anything worth listening to on the actual AM bands. I always planned on broadcasting War of the Worlds or old school horror episodes on Halloween but never got around to it. The AM band is purposefully frequency limited (to get more stations available on the band, I suppose) by using your own transmitter and input source you can hear that it is basically FM quality, just in Mono. I did have a big wooden Zenith console with a green tuning eye that would blast out modern tunes in the garage, a lot of people wondered about that. BEIJING – China is currently facing a massive new wave of COVID-19 infections this summer. Health officials are watching the numbers closely as cases skyrocket across the entire country. Hospitals are seeing more patients coming in with familiar symptoms like fever and cough. The latest figures show a dramatic shift in the nation’s public health situation. China’s National Health Commission reported on August 13 that the mainland recorded 522,000 new COVID-19 cases in July. This figure is up sharply from just 79,000 cases reported back in June. Karmelo Anthony's getting a new trial.
Could it be that they paid off the judge with some of that GoFundMe loot? Posted by: Braenyard That's being decided on tomorrow. Today Judge Roach was recused. Even the shitbird judge that decided that said Roach did nothing wrong. The judge picked to make that decision is Judge Michael Chitty. Judge Michael Chitty has been appointed to oversee Karmelo Anthony's appeal for a new trial. Chitty, a retired district judge from Kaufman County, has a significant background in the legal field, having served nearly 17 years in the 422nd District Court. His appointment comes after a motion to recuse Collin County District Judge John Roach was granted, allowing a new judge to hear Anthony's appeal. Chitty's role in the case is crucial as he will preside over the arguments presented by Anthony's defense team regarding the appropriateness of the original trial and its outcome. Of course times change, but our times are filled with lots of memories that stay with us and our music and cars and friends are a big part of our lives.

This Karmelo Anthony action is not nearly as big a deal as they are making it out to be. Recusal in a review of the same case is not uncommon; any judge will have to find an actual Error of Law that was made in order to allow a retrial, and I don’t see one.

Did anybody else do that? I wish I still had one of those tapes.
Posted by: fd at August 19, 2026 08:12 PM (MWfyi) I did that FD! I had several tapes of TZ themes I liked, like Hawaii 5-O I got a lot of use out of that thing! Posted by: Tom Servo at August 19, 2026 09:50 PM (CnJvf) 187
A two door Model A Ford cost $500 in 1927, the year it came out. That’s less than $9,500 in 2026.
Posted by: NemoMeImpuneLacessit Yeah, but it only had front airbags. And no Memory Seat! Posted by: No A/C Seriously, though, what would you rather have today as your daily driver? (Daily. Driver. Not "what can I resell for beaucoup bux to buy something better.") A brand-new 1927 Model A, delivered by time machine? Or a ~$9500 current car? That would be something like a 2014 bare-bones compact with 120K on it, based on a quick check at Carmax. I bet the rattletrap Kia Soul will still treat you better than the A, unless you're a serious shadetree mechanic. Posted by: mikeski at August 19, 2026 09:51 PM (VHUov) 188

Cars were deathtraps in those days. No crumple zones. The engine would end up in the cabin during a head on collision. The steering column was made up of a nice, heavy solid piece of vanadium steel, that the driver would impale himself upon. Steering would beat the hell out of you too.
I drove an old pickup for many years, no seatbelts, no nothin'. You tend to hear, and feel, the road. Today drivers are anesthetized, practically. Power steering, power brakes, soft compliant suspensions. Quiet interior. They are much safer, but then they drive that much faster, wait until the last possible moment and slam on the brakes, that sort of thing. Karmelo Anthony's getting a new trial.
Posted by: Braenyard That's being decided on tomorrow. Today Judge Roach was recused. Even the shitbird judge that decided that said Roach did nothing wrong. The judge picked to make that decision is Judge Michael Chitty. Posted by: rickb223 Shouldn't a judge named Chitty preside over shootings, not stabbings? The Ford Straight Six, 300 CU. I had one, in an Eddie Bower. Good looking, and drove forever. Had a manual transmission. Just like the 351, and recently the 5.0 Coyote ... FORD decided they didn't want to build more of a good thing. Of course, GM quit making the LS about the same time. Only the greatest crate motor ever made in North America. Ever. Ram is trying to bring back the 5.7. I'd want to know what faggot stopped it. And fire him. Via catapult. Posted by: Howdy at August 19, 2026 09:56 PM (PB+bW) 199
