It would look just like the WNBA and be just as profitable.By the way, can I mention a pet peeve? A long, long time ago it was unusual to see a sports team with a singular nickname. Like, "the Avalanche." Rather than a plural, like "the Jets." You Old-Heads might, like me, remember the old "NASL" soccer league. That league featured a lot of teams with a singular nickname. But this stopped being a novelty many, many years ago, as more and more teams adopted singular nicknames. In fact, it's now a cliche. So of course the WNBA has to be the most cliched franchise on earth and feature mostly singular nicknames. Atlanta Dream. Connecticut Sun. Chicago Sky. Indiana Fever. New York Liberty. Phoenix Mercury. Portland Fire. Seattle Storm. I had to look these up, you know. I can't name them off the top of my head like some commenters I could name but won't. (Garrett.) The "singular team name" thing is only attention grabbing when there's one singular team name among many plural names. It's so fucking gay and stupid. Minnesota Lynx, another one. But maybe "lynx" is also a plural. But if so, it's plural selected to sound singular. $1000 a seat? Are you all insane? To watch what are essentially boys high school players, only butcher?
If women controlled the world there would be no petty squabbling.

Kind of ironic nowadays that this would be illegal discrimination here in the UK. Philosophical beliefs are a protected characteristic under the 2010 Equality Act, a way for atheists to protect their Muslim friends and not give a special carve out for religion. This was deemed by a court to include the (rather common) belief that men cannot become women. Posted by: Doubting_Rich at August 18, 2026 12:29 PM (uXnkN) 11

I think Politics can absolutely be a religion. Sportsball can be a religion. Both can invoke huge tribal, unthinking loyalty, and violence, and a sense of belonging, shared suffering, or moral superiority.
Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, buy ammo at August 18, 2026 12:28 PM (xcxpd) --- What is your definition of a "religion" that everybody will buy into? Because this is part of the atheist-neglected slop that I had to wade through in order to get to a workable functional model. So many atheists are content to say "Marxism is a religion", but with a similar sloppiness they will say "What makes religious people dumb is there belief in supernatural beings" or "things without evidence". Truly those don't both define "religion". That's why I concentrate on what they have in common. A social structure of a Vision as the image of what it's all about, and societal dynamics like enforcement--which is not essential, but just typical. So, my point is finer, it cannot be a "religion" because we don't have a workable, functional definition. What you yourself are citing are social structures. And that's my point, things can have similar social dynamics. Posted by: Axeman at August 18, 2026 12:38 PM (Fi81e) 79

So, my point is finer, it cannot be a "religion" because we don't have a workable, functional definition.
What you yourself are citing are social structures. And that's my point, things can have similar social dynamics. Posted by: Axeman at August 18, 2026 12:38 PM (Fi81e) I suppose there's some overlap. But a religion tells you how to behave, just like a social structure, but it also tells you how to FEEL as well. Hate this group, they wear blue. Love this group, they wear green like you. It ties into an emtional connection beyond simply being a set of rules. Marxism tells you to hate Capitalists (wrecks and looters). Technically a religion barely needs to have a supernatural element, like Confusionism where it is very much in the background. Now I suspect all religions have a supernatural origin, but that's beside my point. Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, buy ammo at August 18, 2026 12:54 PM (xcxpd) 212

We of the faith have a confusing God.
His ways and his thoughts are stratospheric above our own. So none of our limited thoughts can do but be a derivative of the curve of God's thinking (a tangential line at a point). Thus God works by revelation. He is a lamp, not to light up the next mile, but to our feet. To keep us from stumbling here and now. We will end up contributing to something far greater than what we could ever think up, if we are lead by his Will and revelation. This was a social pattern that when people abandoned God, they took away and applied to Science: Always looking to the revelation of Science. But the parsimony of the practice of Science causes us to consider whether an organ adapted for survival, is fit for "figuring it all out". So we reaffirm a model of something being more complex than we can figure out...just without any promise of guidance through it. We reaffirm our lowly brain and its likely insuficiency without faith. The irony is that Angel Reece was supposed to be the next big thing.
She was being pimped as the league's next superstar player. She's also more photogenic than some of the hideous farm animals in the league. But ... she was overrated and crashed and burned. The player who became the star that Reece was supposed to be was ... Caitlin Clark. A white girl. Who isn't hysterically woke. And who doesn't apologize for it. Ditto Sophie Cunningham. The fact that two straight white girls became the stars of a black lesbian league -- and stepped over the fallen carcass of Angel Reece to get there -- is a big root cause of why the league despises them so much. I paid attention to the WNBA for the first couple years, when Houston unexpectedly dominated the league. At the time, they were promoted as more fundamentally sound than the men, just playing below the rim. Most of what I see now from TV highlights are more fundamentally playground basketball on a particularly rough part of town. And everyone on the court seems to hate the hetero girls.

The r/WNBA subreddit has felt the heat and adjusted their Cunningham posting ban:
Sophie Cunningham content is not banned from r/wnba. Posts about Sophie are welcome when they are related to basketball, including games, highlights, interviews, statistics, marketing endorsements, and other WNBA-related news. Off-court Sophie content can be shared as well. We have upped the community karma to post up to 50 community karma. In other words, if a user tries to create a post and has less than 50 community karma in this sub, the post will be automatically removed. For those unfamiliar with Reddit, that last paragraph is what keep it a Ledtwing echo chamber. If you post something against the hivemind (like positive comments about her), people down vote your post, if you have more down votes than up votes, you have negative"karma", and then your future posts are automatically deleted in that subreddit. Maybe they should rename it "social credit score?" Posted by: Intercepted Reddit Transmissions brought by the Intrepid AoS Liaison at August 18, 2026 01:08 PM (7Tl3i) 327

WWII the Germans had a weather station on Greenland until 3 days before D-Day.
Cap Susi weather station, Greenland, 1944 Operation Bassgeiger @11:35 [The Germans] built a small wooden hut among some rocks to house their important radio equipment which was vital for the continuing operation of the weather station. April 1944, a six-man team from the Danish Sledge Patrol attacked the Germans who fought back. The Danes fleeing, but one German officer was killed in the exchange. The remaining 26 Germans then radioed home, requesting evacuation. The Luftwaffe decided to evacuate the men by air. The Germans found a stretch of firm level sea ice some 5 to 6 km south of the base. And on the 3rd of June 1944, a large Ju290 piloted by Hauptmann Schlack-Lebahn flew from Monazan in southern France, landed and rescued all 26 Germans, and then flew back to France without incident, a round trip of about 5,000 mi. https://youtu.be/Ufig2ip-_PI?t=694 Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at August 18, 2026 01:08 PM (Cq/ve) 330

Like the chicks who support Lindsay Clancy. I didn't remember this case until Better Bachelor brought it up in a video yesterday - https://tinyurl.com/mrhu4en5 In short - Lindsay Clancy murdered her 3 kids back in January of 2023. She took them into the basement one-by-one and strangled them with an exercise cord while her husband was out shopping and getting her meds. This isn't disputed by Lindsay's defense lawyer. To me, there might be a psych defense due to Lindsay's 30-odd medications, but that only should change if she spends the rest of her life in a psych ward or ride the lightning. While this story is horrific in itself, what's really bothering is there's thousands of women on TikTok that are siding with Lindsay. Some are even going further and saying that the husband's the real murderer, based of astrological signs and how he looked on stand at a single moment. They've even set up a GoFundMe account for Lindsay, in her parent's name to get around the obvious prohibition of using these accounts to support an accused murderer. Angel Reese is the first player in history, that I'm aware of anyway, to be selected to a Basketball All-Star Game, play significant minutes and score exactly ZERO POINTS.

Indeed it is. My politics are agreement-based. The Constitution is the foundational and official agreement.
We should be amending it, not violating it. The 90s era bullshit argument of how incrementalism "preserves veneration" is how the Court argues it can slide the Constitution to adapt to new times (thus the opposite of "veneration"). Posted by: Axeman ======== All things must pass is the way of things, but the wisest of us argue, that that time is not now and act to stave it off by action. Really doesn't surprise me that in Talarico's current scam he would speak about "God-given rights".
Schumer has done it. Pelosi has done it. All the politicos that claim to be active in their faith fall back to it. Heck, any of these people might actually believe it (whereas I don't find it quite the right fit). But it's how they construe or don't construe it. Joe Biden used to say he agreed with the Catholic Church that abortion was murder. But he felt at that time that he can't decide for another person (like we do with "other murder"!). So he wasn't going to use his position to enforce the "Catholic Faith" on others. Okay, and then he said "If I really believed in the reproductive rights of women," he would favor funding abortions so that women can make their choice. To Joe's "credit", I've never heard him since then argue that he really, truly supports the position of the Catholic Church but he's just not going to impose his belief on others in an official capacity. But the upshot is that when he started seeing it as a denial of human rights of a woman, he had to do something about it. When he just thought that hey, maybe it's murder, ... nah! What is the actual purpose of the WNBA, which runs a $40 million deficit that is paid by the NBA? There is no prospect of the league becoming profitable. They are an embarrassing public clown show. Who benefits? Usually with funding comes control, but apparently nobody is demanding anything in return for the $40 million. Is the NBA paying protection money? Does the NBA believe that the existence of the WNBA helps them in some way? Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at August 18, 2026 01:19 PM (azNOR) 389
