Go to trial. No way all 12 convict!
I think there are enough stupid people they could get on that jury to convict unfortunately. Look what happened with OJ on the reverse side. The OJ jury wasn’t stupid. They knew full well what they were doing, as retribution for Rodney King The charges they’re planning to plea guilty to are the 2 federal stalking charges so that they can potentially use these charges to argue that New York’s Double Jeopardy law would make it so the state murder charges couldn’t be charged since the stalking charges are directly linked to the murder case. Maybe plea to those stalking charges and they drop the state charges to only a few and ask for concurrent sentences to do like 25 years. Better than life I suppose. Jury Nullification was actually promising in this instance. I understand the option and choice to plea for a lesses sentence; however, this was a chance for the general public to show up for him and send a message of utter disdain towards insurance companies as a whole with a not guilty verdict. Or, he realized that the real world is not Reddit and he doesn't have the blind support he has here. If I was on a Murder One jury, and the jurors were dead-locked between the death penalty and the prison, and the judge offered life without parole (LWOP) as a compromise when I thought the accused deserved the death penalty, I would have taken LWOP to ensure a conviction. Such a deal could end up crippling a separate state case — where a trial is set to start on Sept. 8 — because of New York’s rules against double jeopardy, or being tried twice for the same crime.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office — which has claimed “primary jurisdiction” in the case because it charged Mangione with the murder first — could also still push to take Mangione to trial if it disapproves of the terms of any plea deal. This is disturbing, but much better that we find out now, than on a REAL battlefield. (Insty)
Ukrainian Drones Outmatch US Army in Exercise. Ukrainian troops from the battle-tested 412th Regiment of Unmanned Systems Forces, known as Nemesis, effectively eliminated a U.S. armored brigade during the Combined Resolve exercise in April and May. Roughly 3,500 American personnel, primarily from the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, participated. Ukrainian reconnaissance drones quickly located American armored vehicles, whose movement kicked up dust and made them visible from above. Explosive-dropping and first-person-view, or FPV, drones then moved in. The Ukrainians were registering simulated kills so rapidly that American vehicles had to be returned to the battlefield, or “re-spawned,” to keep the exercise running, according to the Journal. The Americans adapted during the two-week engagement, improving their use of dispersion, concealment, and electronic warfare. Ukrainian operators eventually switched sides and helped U.S. forces employ drones offensively, where the Americans performed more effectively. The paper “Niceness as Whiteness in School Police Officers’ Perceptions of Student Arrest” addresses the “perceptions of arrest” by school resource officers, or SROs) in two school districts.
“Nice SROs did not want to arrest children. Nice police officers thought of themselves as well-meaning. Yet, they expressed being required to arrest children because of real or imagined mandates. They used niceness as a strategy for upholding a system of Whiteness that systematically privileges White people and excludes those who fall outside of Whiteness. Niceness hinders possibilities for the types of political, communal relationships central to authentic care.” “SROs used niceness as Whiteness in their recounts of arrest … by highlighting the positive relationships they had with students they arrested…As with highlighting their own goodness, highlighting these positive relationships reframes violence (i.e., arrest) that contributes to racial inequality as a positive, since students still like the SROs. This strategy emphasizes the officer’s ability to retain his niceness—by virtue of the maintained interpersonal relationship—despite having arrested the student.” Posted by: SMOD at August 13, 2026 03:09 PM (RHGPo) 142

Unlike the take here, I think a plea will be a positive development. This is not the airtight case that they had with Charlie Kirk's murder.
The only video they have of CEO's murder doesn't show the killer's face. They have no eyewitnesses that can identify Luigi as the murderer. There were issues with chain of custody and warrantless searches. The judge said some of it can come in as evidence, but some not. The case is circumstantial. I think it's powerful evidence in total that he did it, but juries often don't trust circumstantial evidence. They want to see the guy commit the crime, or hear from someone who did. All you need is one weak or soft juror -- or a corrupt one -- and the jury is hung. There's a chance of that happening in this case. That's why there's talk of a plea deal. I think there is an 80% chance this is basically bullshit but if there is anything the uke war has shown it is if you can see an enemy you can kill it. So tanks and APCs are not as useful as they once were. As reports have noted, "This current mission has established a new modern record for consecutive days at sea without a port call" I had troops deal with mental issues after easy 9 month deployments. A carrier with >5,500 people after 9 months will always have some issues. Posted by: Military Moron at August 13, 2026 03:20 PM (K9nu8) 174

Virginia Gov. Abigail "Spooky" Spanberger just got a formal slap from the very firefighters who helped put her in the governor’s mansion.
The International Association of Fire Fighters unanimously censured the Democrat after she vetoed legislation expanding collective bargaining rights for public-sector workers — bills she had repeatedly promised to sign during her campaign. Union leaders say the move was a clear betrayal of those commitments, and they’re now putting her on notice that future support is off the table until she makes good on what she pledged. So we have created, financed and encouraged a primarily terroristic force in the Ukrainians. Great.
I will say I think we made a mistake in the way we labeled things back in 2001. This issue wasn't terrorism per se, the issue was radical islam declared war on the west and chose terrorism - targeting civilian targets to induce fear - as their means of war. All wars, well ones you want to win, target reducing your enemy's will to fight. So while we spent 20 years giving jihadis the martyrdom they wanted and then paying their families for it, they killed random people and reduced our ability to live normal lives. If we had responded to 9/11 with Tokyo style firebombings of every Taliban held city and Sunni Arab city in Iraq I suspect the last 20 years of war would have looked very different. I hope the reports about the Abraham Lincoln are not true. The NY Post story quoted on Dems, so that tells against the story. On the other hand it sounds a lot like what happened on the Gerald Ford, and those conditions were bad. On the third hand, aricraft carriers are floating cities and there have been gang problems on board in the past.
Regardless, the sailors and Marines aboad have been there for a long time. They did exercise in November-January and were supposed to go home when Epic Fury called. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at August 13, 2026 03:33 PM (l4RKn) _____________ I've seen them in NYC, Carolinas, Hawaii, and on a plane back from CA. The plane ride was when they sent in cops to arrest the Muslim lady in a hijab and tight clothing showing off Bulg-worthy boobs. I told that story here. You can probably google "tight burka" or "burkini" and see more examples. Posted by: Elric The Blade at August 13, 2026 03:38 PM (iFTx/) 246
234 Are you saying there have been 26 murders in San Diego year-to-date? Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug 29. 2026 to 2025. 29 is the same as Miami Orlando and Tampa combined. > we had responded to 9/11 with Tokyo style firebombings of every Taliban held city and Sunni Arab city in Iraq I suspect
the last 20 years of war would have looked very different. Posted by: 18-1 at August 13, 2026 03:21 PM (sKqQm) That would be a moderate response, in my view. As I noted at the time, we once had another enemy that liked to fly suicide planes into things. They rethought that tactic after we glassed two of their cities. Just got back from Minnedishu this week. It is amazing to me how the city of Minneapolis have ceded large chucks of the city to agitators and Grievance Mongers. Everything about the city is completely degraded from what it was when I grew up there in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It's sad.

Look, these people love living in places where there's lots of murder, and then murderers are set free to murder more, especially when they are murdering for the cause.
Good. Good for them. I'm not really into it, though. I like my nearly murder-free living situation. It suits me and my family. We could just split the country up. We can have our awesome murder-free areas and they can have their awesome kill-orgies all day. We can clean up our murder-holes at bayonet point. They can, I dunno, jail anybody who doesn't have enough holes punched on their Murder Cards, or something. Everyone gets what they want. You're welcome. The Male Gaze is perfectly acceptable given the right amount and proportion of handsomeness and wallet thickness.

Looking for a lesser sentence, and also planning to use that to have the NY murder charges dropped. NY has strong double jeopardy protections.

I have heard western feminists laud the hijab and even burka because it means they don't have to worry about "the male gaze" Posted by: 18-1 at August 13, 2026 03:27 PM (sKqQm) I've seen it said that if you think a nun's habit is OK but a hijab is bad, you're nothing but a bigot. Spanish unpleasantness = Spanish Civil War, a real civil war, unlike our war between the states that got redefined as a civil war by the victors. A real civil war is going to be a lot nastier and much more unpleasant, i.e., more murderous, more given to atrocity, than what was once called “the recent unpleasantness”.

Very late to the party, but disagree. Traditionally, even first degree murders got 20 years, absent major amplification. Posted by: Nazdar at August 13, 2026 04:22 PM (NcvvS) Processing 0.04, elapsed 0.0479 seconds. |
