Drink The Straw Hat Riot of 1922 was a riot that occurred in New York City at the end of summer as a result of unwritten rules in men's fashions at the time, and a tradition of taunting people who had failed to stop wearing straw hats after autumn began. Originating as a series of minor riots, it spread due to youths choosing to harass men wearing straw hats past the unofficial date that was deemed socially acceptable, September 15. It lasted eight days, leading to many arrests and some injuries. The riot itself began on September 13, 1922, two days before the supposed unspoken date, when a group of youths decided to get an early jump on the tradition. This group began in the former "Mulberry Bend" area of Manhattan by removing and stomping hats worn by factory workers who were employed in the area. The more innocuous stomping turned into a brawl when the youths tried to stomp a group of dock workers' hats, and the dock workers fought back. Although the initial brawl was broken up by police, the fights continued to escalate the next evening. Gangs of teenagers prowled the streets wielding large sticks, sometimes with a nail driven through the top for hooking hats, looking for pedestrians wearing straw hats and beating those who resisted.Fair warning Horde - only a month left to wear your straw hats before Piper shows up to enforce fashion order by force. MLB at Field of Dreams is a recurring Major League Baseball (MLB) regular-season specialty game played in a ballpark adjacent to Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa, west of Dubuque, a site popularized by the 1989 baseball film Field of Dreams."The movie features a ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson. Wikipedia: Jackson is often remembered for his association with the Black Sox Scandal in which eight members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox participated in a conspiracy to fix the World Series."Fix" - as in lose on purpose to assure gambling winnings for bets against you. Shoeless Joe was banned from baseball forever even though it is widely believed he never actually tanked during any of the games - but he supposedly knew that the fix was in yet stayed silent about it. Anyway - the outfield walls at the park featured at least 2 logos for online gambling companies.

Well greetings fellow Hordians and thank you D&D for content.
We continued east from Mesa Verde this week, made stops at Chimney Rock Nat'l Monument and Continental Divide at Wolf Creek Pass on our way into La Junta Co. for an overnight at La Junta Camp and Cabins. Highly recommended for the train theme and overall excellent organization of the park. Say hi to Brad the owner if you stop by. Spent two very hot days in Dodge City, Ks. at Gunsmoke RV park. Highly recommend Prime Nine restaurant for steaks. Ask for Uvia the server. Took a trolley tour and tried to see the wagon ruts west of the city. Had some weather stripping peel off camper. Excellent repair by Nate at BS Trailer service in Dodge. Be sure to give Bel the shop dog a scritch if you stop by. Continued east stayed overnight in Blue Springs CG in Lee's Summit, Mo. very impressed with change in scenery from Dodge to Lees Summit. Went from arid high plains to green forested rolling hills in about 300 mi. Now visiting Tom and Huck on the Mighty Miss-sip. Steamboat dinner cruise this evening, then moving on to another location in Mo. tomorrow....this is the furthest east we'll go. The adventure continues.... Never understood the specific date fashion rules. Seems they would have grown out of seasonal weather changes. So, if it's still hot where the hot weather clothes.
If spring rolls in and I retire the sweaters, I'm not averse to resurrecting them during a cold snap. Then again, I'm no fashion maven so there could be some existential style rules I'm naive to. Posted by: She Hobbit at August 15, 2026 10:23 PM (ftFVW) 37

Looked it up.
The Zoot Suit Riots occurred during WWII. Zoot suits were extremely baggy, and used very large amounts of fabric. Fabric was rationed due to the war effort. Most clothing manufacturers stopped making zoot suits, as they were deemed unpatriotic. However, Latinos, blacks, and Filipinos in LA started buying them from black market tailors and continued to wear them, at just the time when Los Angeles was filling up with white soldiers, sailors, and Marines. Guess what happened. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at August 15, 2026 10:37 PM (IG3/x) 70

Nasty stuff. I knew people who took shots of it to get their buzz on quickly and, no offense to Morons and 'ettes who like it, but these two broads were trash heaps. On the far edge of middle age and trying hard to be cool. I sadly once was at a stupid work party when this was going on. Pathetic. One woman thought she was Lorelai Gilmore (I am serious in my anthropology study). Her husband left her for another woman (the only guy she dated). Two teen daughters and they all seemed goofy and boy crazy with their tatas hanging out. She ended up marrying her husband's brother! I always wanted to spy on her in-laws holiday dinners and have to assume her daughters introduce him as Uncle Daddy. They were not from the South before anyone wonders. Midwest. I was once very cool and am a good judge and we never had this stuff. I no longer want a fast buzz but if I ever do it will be gin quickly. I felt they might as well drink shots of Nyquil. Add the cows from Texas, which is a larger cattle state. And you get more than one cut of meat from each cow. Around 120 or so servings, so just from Kansas and Texas around 18 million. So just from TX and Kansas, about 1 beef serving for every 6 people. Take out kids, vegans from the population, about one serving once. Takes 3 years to bring a calf to market as a cow. Like we can balance the budget, once, for one year only, by confiscation the entire wealth of the country. Posted by: NaCly Dog at August 15, 2026 11:14 PM (u82oZ) 112

Got a load of laundry done, and hung out on the line. Took it in about an hour ago, seemed a touch damp. Dew, maybe? So I put it in the dryer for 15 minutes. Perfect!
