I posted some of this last night, but it is worth revisiting because much of it is forgotten. When the King Spain abdicated and the 2nd Republic was created, the leftists wrote the Constitution and won control of the government. They proceeded to raise taxes, secularize stuff and of course banned Catholic schools (which were the only ones at the time).
The created total mayhem, and in the two years that followed, the center-right got organized and won a plurality of seats in 1934. By all European parliamentary customs, their leader should have been named prime minister and formed a coalition government. Ah, but the left always cheats. The leftist president instead picked fringe parties' leaders, who then needed the center-right to form a government. So some conservative things got done, but the coalitions kept collapsing, and so a new fringe part got to be PM. Meanwhile, the Anarchists launched an armed rebellion in Asturias which was put down with the Foreign Legion. (cont) Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at August 08, 2026 09:01 AM (ZOv7s) 109

In 1936 the left learned its lesson and created the Popular Front ("No enemies to the left!") and in a campaign marred by fraud and violence, won a narrow majority. Now here's the fun part you don't know.
They immediately launched a parliamentary inquiry into "election irregularities" and concluded that all the most conservative parts of Spain had committed fraud and needed to vote again. These votes were completely rigged, and they went from a razor-thin majority to a supermajority. And what did they do with this huge majority? They impeached the president because he wasn't radical enough! Oh, and they granted amnesty to all the captured rebels who had tried to overthrow the government, and refused to prosecute people for killing landowners and looting businesses. Spain became one big CHAZ. This got the Army worried, and Emilio Mola began making a plan for a coup. The government tried to stop this by forcing officers into retirement or assigning them to remote duty stations. Franco went from chief of staff to being posted to the Canary Islands. Franco was apolitical, a career officer and a devoted Catholic. He was also a patriot, and saw his country being destroyed. When Jose Calvo Sotelo, a conservative politician, was murdered by a police officer (who suffered no punishment), that was the last straw for him.
The July Rising was supposed to be a bloodless coup, a Pronunciamiento in the classic style, but the left had installed enough cronies that it failed in many areas. That was how the Spanish Civil War started. But the parallels are there - the left eating its own, the radicals removing the moderates, lying about their platform, abandoning "traditions and norms" the moment they get in the way, releasing hardened criminals to break down societal trust and of course attacking the Christian faith. A higher proportion of clergy were murdered in Spain than in the Soviet Union. Think about that. Total murder spree. And of course the Democrats claim the mantle of Antifa, which was born in the blood of Spain's innocents. This is why I pimp Long Live Death so often, because people need to know what we are up against. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at August 08, 2026 09:09 AM (ZOv7s) 126

Fun fact: Just about all the radical leaders in Spain were also Freemasons. One of the reasons Franco would go on about them was that in Spain, they really did want to destroy the Catholic Church. I'm happy and thankful to report that God has been giving me relief and peace from the anxiety about my house (and finances) that has consumed the last several months, with the lowest point being the snake incident. This week we had a couple of torrential rains. I did get some water in the crawl space each time (after staying dry for 2+ months), but it is so much better than before. I hopped in with the shop vac and cleaned it up in a couple minutes. I didn't freak out or get depressed. I still get a bit jumpy when I see the cat peering intently into one of the air vents, but we are starting to settle down.
I've picked up a side gig (in my field!) and have seen a couple paychecks from that. It's not much, but should allow me to take care of the new bills for the ductwork, drain lines, etc. These are very small things compared to the trials many of our beloved Hordelings are facing. There is none for the opposition to capital punishment, but advocacy of abortion. I will sometimes watch video of pro-abort people "debating" anti-abortion people. There isn't a more spineless, gutless crew that the USCCB. When lockdowns were mandated, Their Excellencies should have told the secular power to go piss up a rope. That while the faithful were dispensed from their Sunday and Holy Day obligations, Masses would be held, open to those wanting to attend, every single day in every single parish. And they should have been prepared to get locked up and welcomed it. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at August 08, 2026 09:47 AM (O0L8i) 198

You had cops arresting people at a deserted park, and other cops refusing to enforce any of the rules. Our Democrat county sheriff told his department to forward all calls regarding Covid "violations" to the Attorney General's office. The spectacle of state police raiding a barber in Owosso happened because the municipal and county cops refused to do anything. Our bishop accepted the Mass restrictions, but also launched Eucharistic processions and of course Mass continued to be said. I know in my case, the denial of the Mass made me want to it much more. The thing about Covid is that it apparently killed a lot of people in China. We don't know how many but it was bad. People are now arguing that China's official population is lower, and what if Covid was part of that?
.... Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at August 08, 2026 09:32 AM (ZOv7s) It is my opinion that the initial assessment was that COVID-19 was a bio-weapon (it probably was, actually). But ... typical Chinese tofu engineering; so, crappy bio-weapon. It became very obvious by May 2020 that the fatalities were way below the numbers predicted by the models. I'm a Modeling and Simulations Engineer, and a truism is that if your model isn't tracking real-world results, your model is broken and needs to be revised. Here in Ohio, I was screaming at the TV when Temu Garden Dwarf, De-Whine, was nattering about "models" and the lunatic DOCTOR Amy Acton was making certain everyone knew about her awful childhood. The Ohio Legislature finally had a come-to-Jesus meeting with DeWine in July-ish 2020 and he lifted the lock-downs. The median age of the dying was around 81 years -- so not exactly the most healthy cohort in the Ohio population. Another scab that Fauci's non-testimony pulled off. We knew very early on 1) the elderly were the worst affected and 2) this was not the Black Death. We could have taken a very moderate course, basically not doing stupid things, and ended up in much the same spot.
But no. We were bullied and coerced by power-mad politcos, publicity-crazed doom-mongering scientists, controlling Karens and AWFLs too scared to die to live. All of whom destroyed a generation and brought untold suffering on this country. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at August 08, 2026 09:24 AM (O0L8i) You’re absolutely correct. The covid fiasco was by far the biggest catastrophe in this country in my 29 years of life… bullies, cowardice, sheep-like behavior from so many, Karens everywhere, lockdowns, forced jabs, people dying alone in nursing homes… it goes on and on. I lost faith in this country 2020 thru early 2022. Some of the scars won’t go away. We could have taken a very moderate course, basically not doing stupid things, and ended up in much the same spot.
------- FWIW, we could have done *absolutely nothing* and been in a *better spot.* We could have done what we did with Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Zika, MERS, etc... the CDC issued warnings, the press issued breathless Chicken Little stories on an hourly basis, those stories scared the fearful into self-quarantine, and 95% of people said "yeah, yeah, what's for lunch?" As it stands, we had more excess deaths than we otherwise would have, with the added benefit of ripping open a new, very ugly wound in an already severely damaged society, and it will never quit suppurating. One the bright side, people will never trust the government again, which is healthy. But much more negatively and importantly, we'll never trust each other again, either. Nor should we; we got to see what our fellow Americans were made of - and it's not pretty. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at August 08, 2026 10:02 AM (BI5O2) 227
I think the covid op was all about public compliance. Forced compliance. After Fauci got a hold of the President's ear with his horseshit demands that we self isolate, close public spaces and get vaccinated the real operation kicked off.
Congress authorized a national shutdown, but left it mostly up to the states to mandate whatever they felt was suitable. Within the guidelines set. Some governors let it go to their heads and forced some seriously draconian mandates on the public. Mayors too. And it trickled down to law enforcement, judges and various shop keepers, businesses and the like. Then, there's the medical community's response. But first and foremost, it was about your compliance with all that. Posted by: Martini Farmer at August 08, 2026 10:03 AM (2Cry5) 228

Lost an entire day going through exhaustive troubleshooting. A strong storm knocked me offline two nights ago. Somewhere along the way, my Apple ID did not work, so no help from Apple. Had to figure it out myself. Needed the broadband tech support to get signal from the tower to the router, cable swaps, reboots, manual resets of the router, using a second router, cleaning my computer files with Sonoma Cache Cleaner, inventive threats to toss it in a landfill, invective, soldering irons, all played a part.
