Working on the Movie Vault, ran into a challenge, certain files have default audio streams that are in other languages.
The version of 52 Pick-Up I acquired has Italian as the default audio track and not English, so I have to add a stream picker and memory settings. Do I want to do this as a JSON or a table entry? Hmm... Oh, I think I will ruminate on this over a nice Gimlet. Posted by: Thomas Bender at August 07, 2026 07:26 PM (XV/Pl) 3

One of my buddies was a black dude, and he was mystified, because many of the locals had never seen a black person. The kids would innocently rub his arms to see if it came off. I ran into porcupine on a trail near Estes Park, Co. absolutely no fear of humans, and we realized quick that he didn’t need to be scared of us , we needed to be scared of him. I, being foolishly bold for no reason, found a six foot long stick and tried to poke him with it. (To this day I don’t know why I wanted to do that). He educated me by slapping that stick out of my hands with his tail.

The late Lieut. Ruxton, R.N., speaking of the Island of Ichaboe, on the Western Coast of Africa, says, ‘Notwithstanding that the island had been occupied for nearly two years, during which time thousands upon thousands of penguins had been wantonly destroyed, on the cessation of work these birds again flocked to their old haunts, where they had again commenced laying their eggs.
The rocks round the island are literally covered with penguins, cormorants, and albatrosses. The former, wedged together in a dense phalanx, have no more dread of man than ducks in a poultry-yard, although they have met with such persecution on the island; and any number might be taken by the hand without any difficulty. The sailors eat the livers and hearts, which are exceedingly palatable, but the flesh of the body is rank and oily. Some tidbits from the Spanish Civil War era that folks might not know. When the King abdicated and the Republic was created, the leftists wrote the Constitution and won control of the government. They proceeded to do Lefty stuff, ban religious education, raise taxes, secularize everything, etc.
The created total mayhem, and in the two years that followed, the center-right got organized and won a plurality of seats in the 1934. By all European parliamentary customs, their leader should have been named prime minister and formed a coalition government. Ah, but the left always cheats. The leftist president instead picked fringe parties' leaders, who then needed the center-right to form a government. So some conservative things got done, but the coalitions kept collapsing, and so a new fringe part got to be PM. Meanwhile, the Anarchists launched an armed rebellion in Asturias which was put down with the Foreign Legion. (cont) Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. In 1936 the left learned its lesson and created the Popular Front ("No enemies to the left!") and in a campaign marred by fraud and violence, won a narrow majority. Now here's the fun part you don't know.
They immediately launched a parliamentary inquiry into "election irregularities" and concluded that all the most conservative parts of Spain had committed fraud and needed to vote again. These votes were completely rigged, and they went from a razor-thin majority to a supermajority. And what did they do with this huge majority? They impeached the president because he wasn't radical enough! Oh, and they greanted amnesty to all the captured rebels who had tried to overthrow the government, and refused to prosecute people for killing landowners and looting businesses. One giant CHAZ. This got the Army worries, and Emilio Mola began making a plan for a coup. Franco was noncommittal until the brutal murder of Jose Calvo Sotelo, a conservative politician who was killed by a police officer - who went unpunished. It's all there - leftists eating their own, radicals pushing aside moderates and of course tearing up the rules they wrote themselves because they got in the way. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Why doesn't one want to kill an albatross?
Killing an albatross is considered bad luck primarily due to the maritime superstition that these birds carry the souls of deceased sailors. Sailors believed that harming an albatross was an act of violence against a departed soul, which would invite the wrath of the sea, resulting in misfortune, storms, or shipwreck for the entire crew.
