The Morning Rant: The Terrorists Have Won (At Least In The UK)

Contrary to the breathless reporting about this event, Laurence Fox's stunt...threatening to display a cartoon of the 7th century pedophile Mohammad... is actually a perfect example of Islam's ascendance in the West. Fox is not a brave man fighting against the encroaching darkness of Islam; he is an observer pointing out that Islam has already won, at least in the UK.

Had Mr. Fox actually displayed an image of pedo Mo, what would the odds be that he would have been accosted at the least, and injured or killed at the worst?

Remember Charlie Hebdo? 12 dead and 11 wounded, all because Islam -- The Religion Of Peace^TM -- didn't like its drawings of their cult leader.

Remember Salman Rushdie? Islam's response to his 1988 book, The Satanic Verses drove him into hiding for years, and culminated in a failed assassination attempt that blinded him in one eye, 35 years after publication!

Islam controls the narrative in many places in the West. Yes, it is probably most powerful in the UK, but France and Belgium and the Netherlands and Germany and Canada and Spain and perhaps others are also on the road to sharia law and the complete destruction of free speech.

"Free Speech" is of necessity and by definition offensive, challenging, disturbing, and subverts the dominant paradigm. Otherwise it is just talk, without substance and without any meaning or import.

The West needs to push back forcefully against any challenge to our free speech rights. Anything less than a full-throated defense of our God-given, natural right to speak as we see fit will result in the loss of more than just free speech!

Another thing is Article 5 of the NATO pact. The only time it has it been used: post September 11th, 2001 due to internal terrorists attacks. What this means is that each member nation is required to act as if an attack on one NATO member is equivalent to an attack on all. There is obvious flexibility on what a country's response might look like.

I think the real reason is twofold.

One, zoning and development approval is -- and always has been -- hopelessly corrupt. Any time a big development wants to get built, the developers and their subcontractor remoras start greasing palms, both legally and illegally. I guarantee if you dig deep enough, you'll find that all 7 of these guys were bought.

Two: the US constitution and federal laws forbid discrimination on the basis of religion. You can't deny approval to build a mosque because it's Muslim. If the council voted down this proposal, they'd all be sued.

I assume all these big-time donation machines are a bit of both (and paying out to consultants that are your uncles and cousins and companies you own, etc).

I was describing the bare-bones scam model that predominates the low end. Just one dude literally scamming gullible seniors, AWFuLs with more money than brains, etc.

Paying yourself a 99% salary also works, but that's more complicated. And states (and the feds) rarely police charities. But they do police income taxes and/or 1099s, as well as required workers' comp, insurance, etc.

The guy with the 30% plurality is someone I voted against two years ago, and the #2 and #3 vote getters from the primary decided to drop out of the run-off, so it's the guy I don't like verses two contenders that got 3% and 2% respectively in the primary.
