I have plenty of DDR5 (and DDR4) memory and DDR6 isn't expected to arrive meaningfully on the desktop until... Well, AMD's Zen 7 architecture has been confirmed to support DDR5 and that will arrive at the start of 2029, so a couple of years after that.

Go for it, guys.
Microsoft absolutely never said that they recommended 32GB of RAM for gaming on Windows even though it has been transparently obvious that is what you have needed for several years. (Tom's Hardware)

My old laptop was better in every way than this one except that it had 16GB of soldered RAM. Oh, and only 1TB of SSD. I never upgraded that. Which reminds me that I have four 1TB SSDs lying around that I can add to my... Five. Five 1TB SSDs.

20 Had a lovely day at the 4H Fair. I was there for a booth. Some highlights: Little kids eating cotton candy with green shirts which said "Camp WOW" which for some reason made me laugh, a dear man dressed as Uncle Sam with a big sign saying". Pray 4 our troops" ( I told him I would come visit his church some Sunday night), a very beautiful woman ( she was representing some energy company. ) and we prayed together, and a nice talk with a guy at the Gideons Booth.

I have to go back on another day, but I will leave earlier to go look at the animals from the 4H 'ers.

This good to take some time away from politics and to recognize that there are a lot of good people in the world who are a pleasure to talk to.

31 So today is a short one at work. I'm leaving in three hours to go to the orthopedist to have my knee evaluated.

Quick summary: Took a bad spill at work a year ago and landed on my knee. Follow up exams revealed that courtesy of the Marine Corps, I had very little cartilage remaining. I was on a series of injections of hyaluronic acid to cushion things and help me walk normally. It isn't helping so today we're going to see what my alternatives are.

Same here. So far, I've been through months of PT and had two series of the injections without much in the way of positive outcome. Although they did drain a considerable amount of fluid out of my knee and that problem hasn't resurfaced.

I'm optimistic. And if surgery is necessary, it can wait until after my vacation. -:-)

Every now and then I find something of interest to me in the thrift store part, like a perfectly functioning kitchen timer. 59 Hadrian, I gotta tell you, I enjoyed the dog show we went to last weekend. The dogs were quiet and well-behaved, as were the few children there. The canines were beautiful and impressive -- especially the Schipperkes and the miniature collies or Shetland sheepdogs. Though I saw at least one or two very handsome German shepherds.

More, the owners and handlers were well-dressed, and generally were more attractive than cat show people (and the populace at large too). Has that been your experience at shows too?

Yes, for an ordinary member of the public, dog shows can be a fun experience (far, far less so if you're competing). The dogs are almost all well-socialized, quiet and tuned to their handlers.

There's still something of a dress code for the two-legged competitors and judges. My own stewards club requires me to dress well. You can go back to show photos from 80 years ago and still see men in coat and tie and women in dresses. All are "sensible" and it's rare to see anyone flamboyantly dressed.

My long-time mechanic's father, who only recently passed away at 90-something, was in the Pacific and slated to be part of the invasion of the Japanese islands. He was positive he'd never make it back from that. Never was he so relieved and happy than he was when the super-bombs were dropped and the Japanese surrendered.

85 Great. Amazon's "Content Library" now:

a) Shows Kindle books, but no longer allows you to click on "Docs" or "Documents" to see the separate category of documents that you yourself personally uploaded to your kindle via their "Send to Kindle" page.

The documents are still there on your Kindle, but you can't easily manage this type of documents on Amazon's web interface anymore. I'm betting there's still a list you can get to, IF ONLY THEY HADN'T TAKEN AWAY THE BUTTON.

b) Doesn't show you a list of links at the bottom to allow you to jump forward many pages in your list of books or documents and zero in on the page you want. Nope, now it's just scroll down and find the "Load more titles..." button and click that for another appended page. This works if you only have one to ten pages, but for those who have an extensive library with hundreds of pages... Not so much. FFS, come on.

89 It's nice to think that GLP-1s might be useful in treating alcoholism, the way Antabuse was (and maybe still is). But both require the alcoholic to take them on a regular basis. For me, it took a lifestyle and attitude change to do the trick -- much as a diet to lose weight requires you to change your eating habits and attitude toward food. If you don't change those, as soon as you go off the diet, and I presume off the treatment pills, you'll go back to the old way of life.

If they didn't think the Soviets would invade the home islands, they probably would have gone that route. Yeah, there's getting the job done, but the juice needs to be worth the squeeze. ~1M casualties (if I remember the casualty estimates correctly; 50K just to get the southern third of Kyushu) is a lot of squeeze.
