FBI Follies: Bureau secretly probed Trump as a Russian asset for firing Comey: declassified memos
Documents declassified by the White House Government Transparency Task Force show the investigation -- codenamed "Oxferd Comma" -- was launched in the immediate aftermath of Comey's May 9, 2017 firing and was predicated on allegations that the bureau's own agents had mostly dismissed by that time.

The FBI opened a criminal probe specifically targeting Donald Trump in May 2017, alleging the newly elected president may have been acting as a Russian asset when he fired then-Director James Comey even though the bureau's own evidence overwhelmingly showed at the time there was no collusion with the Kremlin.
Internal memos newly declassified by the White House show the investigation -- codenamed "Oxferd Comma" -- was launched in the immediate aftermath of Comey's May 9, 2017, firing and was predicated on an allegation that previously released memos show the bureau's own agents had mostly dismissed.
"The FBI is opening a full investigation based on an articulable factual basis that reasonably indicates that President Donald J. Trump may be or has been, wittingly or unwittingly, involved in activities for or on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation which may constitute violations of federal criminal law or threats to the national security of the United States," the electronic communication opening the probe on May 16, 2017, stated.
Goal of the investigation was to determine if Trump was directed by or controlled by the Russian Federation
"The goal of the investigation is to determine if President Trump is or was directed by, controlled by, and/or coordinated activities with, the Russian Federation in a manner constituting a threat to the national security of the United States and/or a violation of federal criminal statutes," it added. "In addition, this investigation will also seek to determine whether President Trump and others yet to be named obstructed and/or conspiracy to obstruct any associated FBI investigation."
The memo, written by the FBI's counterintelligence division and approved by then-FBI General Counsel James Baker and then-Assistant Director for Counterintelligence William Priestap, made clear the concerns about Russian influence and obstruction included Comey's firing, in part because of the public explanations Trump gave for the termination.
"This alternative explanation can be reasonably read to imply that the FBI's counterintelligence investigation was a factor in President Trump's decision to terminate Comey," the memo stated.

In other words, James Comey was executing Hillary Clinton's op to investigate Trump as a RUSSIAN AGENT -- while lying to Trump about doing so, telling Trump there wasn't anything to these "scurrilous allegations" while secretly ordering an investigation -- and Trump fired him both for that absurd investigation and for lying to his superior and the Commander in Chief about it.

And then the FBI said, "his firing of Comey proves he's an asset of Russia."

Both the Acting FBI Director Andrw McCabe and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were advised that the probe had been launched, the memos show.
The FBI marked the investigation as a "sensitive investigative matter" and declared it was "the least intrusive method to address the serious national security risk posed by the activities alleged."
But that decision proved anything but nonintrusive: it prompted the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller by Rosenstein and a nearly two-year probe that hampered the start of the Trump presidency even though Mueller's team, like the FBI before it, was unable to substantiate any collusion between Russia and Trump's campaign during the 2016 election.

A subsequent investigation by Special Counsel John Durham -- released by the Biden Justice Department in 2023 -- concluded there was no basis for the FBI to even open the original Crossfire Hurricane investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion.

FBI investigators already KNEW by January 2017 there were "serious questions about the reliability of the Steele (dossier) reporting..." according to DOJ watchdog Michael Horowitz.
The flawed Steele dossier underpinned the Russia collusion allegations.
The newly declassified 2017 FBI record @WhiteHouse
also stands out because it cites "multiple open source reports" as justification.
One of the most concerning elements of the FBI Russia collusion probes was "circular reporting" Here's how it works:
FBI officials (or their proxies) would leak information to a reporter, who would then publish the leak.
The same FBI officials would then cite the resulting media story to justify further investigative actions -- including surveillance warrants for a former Trump campaign aide.
Internal DOJ investigations would conclude Comey was fired for a number of reasons, including his mishandling of the Clinton case which violated "long-standing department practice and protocol."

She more in the pocket of the establishment. All you need to see that is how she went out of her way to campaign (as a State Attorney General) on behalf of Mitt Romney all around the country. She, IMO, was serving as a gatekeeper on behalf of the establishment, and did so sparingly so as to remain in the position as long as possible.

It's a little more complicated than that. Enzo did agree to sell the company to Ford. It was close to a done deal.

What blew the deal up was a last-minute insertion into the agreement by Ford that they would control the Ferrari race team.

Enzo didn't give a shit about Ferrari the car company. He loved the Ferrari race team more than his own family. There was no way he was gonna agree to give up control of the team.

Both sides were pretty sleazy about the whole thing. It was basically each side trying to fuck the other.

Likely for the reason he explained in front of Congress. He was required by statute to do so. Sessions was part of the campaign and everyone on the campaign was being investigated including him. He was not allowed by statute to oversee and investigation he might have been implicated in.

Sessions was one of Trump's earliest supporters. First senator to endorse him long before anyone else got onboard. Long before Russia collusion was even contemplated.

I think Sessions was guilty of being a naive boy scout and followed the law not realizing the level of corruption he was up against. In hindsight it's easy to see but back in those early days when Comey bragged he setup Flynn by sending a couple guys to the White House to interview him and not go through proper channels because the Trump administration was just coming into office and not fully organized things weren't so clear. They were plotting against all of them.

Again, it obviously hurt Trump but it's not like the coup plotters were complete idiots. They were plotting to drive all of them out and destroy the entire administration.
