Ambulance Worker Sues After Being Fired for Disabling Cameras That Filmed Patients Without Consent

An EMT worker, who says she turned off cameras pointed at patients in the back of ambulances, has filed an $800,000 lawsuit – claiming she was fired for protecting the privacy of patients who were unaware they were being filmed.
Brittany Martin, a former emergency medical technician for Metro West — which provides ambulance services across Portland, Oregon — filed a wrongful termination lawsuit in Multnomah County Circuit Court against her previous employer last month.
According to emergency medical news outlet EMS1, Martin claims that the privately owned ambulance company began installing cameras in late 2025 or early 2026. However, patients were not informed that they were about to be video and audio recorded. Her lawsuit says she believed that these cameras in the patient compartments of ambulances violated Oregon law.

On July 25, a mammoth iceberg literally made waves as it flipped over off the coast of Ilulissat, Greenland. A video taken from town went viral online, and AfarTV, which has a livestream camera set up near the entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ilulissat Icefjord, captured the event in high definition. “Large icebergs can remain grounded or trapped near the mouth of the icefjord while they melt, fracture and become small enough to move into Disko Bay,” AfarTV says. “It is not known precisely when this particular iceberg originally separated from the glacier.”

So here we are - Paul, Rachel, and me, waiting for lab results and a visit from the doctor on call at the John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California. They think I might have to stay overnight at the very least.

So much for having lunch and a trip to the hair salon with Rachel Koch Syska today.

Hopefully this won't turn into something more serious and we can resume our vacation plans in a day or two - I still haven't seen the Redwoods or the Golden Gate Bridge or Fisherman's Wharf or the sea lions...😪😪😪

Update: Being admitted to the hospital for a couple of days until blood test results come back for infection(s). I am okay; they will be giving me broad spectrum IV antibiotics until they figure out which one(s) to give to knock this thing out.

That Falcon 9 2nd stage is going to hit da Moon this morning, time window still around 2:35AM EDT. However, the trajectory has changed to put the estimated impact point just behind the western limb. So, impact point will not be visible from Erf.

The dust plume may still be, but not with the nekkid eye, nor binoculars, not anything but a pretty large telescope. Still possible for amateur levels of "big" maybe, but the big pro boys will be watching.

if this is a movie thread, I watched "Soulm8te" a few nights ago. They were trying to do a "Basic Instinct" or "Fatal Attraction" in the m3gan universe. Yes Blumhouse was trying to expand m3gan into an IP.
Problem was that m3gan 2 was a deuce at the box office, so Soulm8te ended up not releasing in January like they planned. And then Obsession came out. So Soulm8te got shifted to video-only this week.
Anyway, Soulm8te turns out not to be terrible. It is still bad, but maybe just "Maid Droid Origins" bad. Higher budget and marginally better dialog, but a worse script honestly. Also-honestly "Companion" was worse overall in the killer-fembot genre.

63 Some of you’ns were talking about upgrading iPhone on the previous thread. Mine is getting long in the tooth. I can’t bring myself to pay $800+ for a damn phone. So I’m thinking a good used one.

The current iPhone is a 6 Pro or whatever. I actually bought it through WalMart if not at WalMart. Battery has lasted well for several years now.

I’m a little miffed at how long charge cables last, or don’t last. They just sort of die, or become intermittent. It starts to become an annoyance if not expensive. I did notice convenience stores want $25 for a charge cord.

Are more modern iPhones cordless charging? How well does that work?

That cemetery looks like a really perpetual job. Like painting the Mackinac Bridge; when you're done, it's time to start over.

Somebody put me some knowledge: I'm used to seeing headstone-and-footstone type graves, with grass growing over them. What's the purpose of that frame-and-rock-garden thing? I'm guessing it's not sacrilegious to mow over the deceased if it's okay to hose them down with weed killer.....

Very well. Lay the phone on a flat disc (the MagSafe charger) and it charges inductively. Some cars have flat spaces for phones too now.

And yeah, getting rid of the charging cable is pretty much the last necessary cable to go. I’ve actually been impressed with Apple’s build quality when it comes to headphone ports and power ports—every other device I’ve owned has always started to flake out after a while plugging them in, and the iPhone and iPad haven’t. But it’s still nice to see them gone.

I just upgraded to an iphone 17 for free, basically. They charge me $35/mo for it and credit my account $35/mo. Don't know why. My previous device was so old it had vacuum tubes in it.

You can charge it the normal way with a cord or, like we do, with a magnetic wireless charging pad. It's a bit slower charging than a dedicated cord but since I use the pad during the night, I don't care.

123 The grave cleaner reminds me of my sister - she used to do a lot of gravestone rubbing in the 70's and 80's. She once gave me a rubbing of the Suzanna Jayne headstone from Marblehead MA. I had it restored a few years ago and it's in my living room. There's a ton of symbolism going on in it.
The stone itself has been closed off to rubbing for decades due to vandalism. Some asshole chipped off the moon in her right hand before mine got rubbed.

Locked phones can only be used on the carrier that locked it. New phones are offered as a discount to get new customers in and sometimes are returned or barely used for whatever reason--so they are locked to that network. Unlocked phones cost more but theoretically can be used on any compatible carrier. But used 'unlocked' phones often come with issues--sometimes compatibility, sometimes junk software from the previous carrier, and so on.

New unlocked phones can be used on any network but you usually pay a premium if it is a good phone.

141 The other thing I discovered is that there is no API available that captures a films credit roll as it appeared in the movie, you can get cast and crew information, sometimes it's complete, but for big effects heavy films they don't capture all of the various animators and other esoteric jobs and roles.

Microcenter has iphones 12-15. The switch to 5g on iphone 12 has made a lot of the older phones less desirable. On the iphone SE models, I think the 1 and 2nd generation were 4g only with 3rd generation (and last for awhile) moved to 5g.

Recently, I've noticed several sites using something called "AdShield". If you somehow block an ad server (Private/Incognito mode tends to do that), it does a MASSIVE # of calls to a bunch of subsites on some randomly-named server to try and pull in AdSense or whatever. And of course, the scripts all use a bunch of encoding/decoding and EXEC calls, much like malware does.

I've ended up just plain blocking ALL JavaScript on a few misbehaving servers, from how bad they react.

Eh, in browser settings but the particulars differ.

I've used Brave for my primary browser for years simply because it works for the most part with less fuss and hassle but my main internet driver desktop actually has about 5-6 browsers for different tasks.

I keep Chrome and Firefox around for some websites that insist on them. Chromium as a degoogled Chrome, and Vivaldi.

Phone has Chrome because preinstalled but Brave on it as well as the primary.

ios phones by Apple, you have Safari (or various other skins (Brave, Vivaldi, whatever) over safari code) except perhaps for Chrome which uses its own code I've been told.

On iPhone, every browser is Safari. Apple doesn't allow other browser code.

So this is what I do:

Leave Java turned on in Safari. Use that for websites that need it.

Install a second browser. I installed Brave, but it doesn't matter a lot since they're all just a skin over Safari.

Turn of Java on Brave (or whatever), and use that for websites that are advertising script whores.

Her little voice clearly, out of the ether, said, "This is my car and I am leaving!" It was pure accident we saw her performance as she's never had a tantrum and that one was funny. Possible, but probably not. The way adservers (usually) work is that you (or in this case, Ace or Pixy) put code in the web page(s) that tells browsers to load javascript or other files from somewhere else.

So, the adserver pays Ace (second party) $x (probably per visitor—first party) to insert this code; then the adserver (third party) sells ads to whoever is willing to pay, and that fourth party provides the ad files. If the adserver isn’t careful, the ad files can be malicious. But it won’t hurt the server, only the browser. The server never sees the files. They’re sent directly to the browser.

You know I love you Doofy but that sounds a bit precious to me. Everyone is free to do themselves, but installing a browser is like 40 seconds of work? Managing a separate browser for one site is not particularly demanding, not when that one site provides a lot of entertainment. Yes. I may have gotten lucky as Babylon DC got almost 2 inches of rain. Only part of the drivers seat got wet, a bit of the floor, nothing major. Dried it out and left the window open a crack. POPUPS ARE EASY TO FIX IN CHROME.

1- Click that funny thing (possibly a lock, possibly two dashes with circles) to the immediate left of the address up there. See where it says acecomments.mu.nu/?and then a bunch of numbers? Right to the left there's a funny thing. Click it.

2- A menu comes up. Click the Site settings gear (probably at the bottom).

3- In the big ol' Permissions box that comes up, look for JavaScript. There's a little down-arrow next to it. Click it. Select Block.

That did it for me. Three easy steps.

Ublock lite (which they had to change because Google changed some interface with Chrome) still works great. It's just the stupid phones which are more difficult.

I've got Edge for Android installed, and somehow I notice it has some AdBlock installed (they know seem to have a beta extension feature, and there's a Ublock available for it). That killed all this mess there, I discovered earlier.

Ads are a necessity, but ads that drive people away are bad for business. Ace needs to get an ad sales director to sell "flat" ads to suitable clients. I'll bet you Palmetto State Armory could make money off flat ads here at the HQ. Just to name one.

297 FWIW, I use Opera browser on my Android phone and I never see pop-ups on this site. I didn't even know there were ads on this site. But I have had the blitz of disgusting ads happen to me on other sites, sites that had few if any ads normally. It seems as if I had picked up some nonfatal phone virus. Every time, I would get off the website, close all tabs and app windows, clear all my history on the browser, then go into the inner phone settings and clear the browser cache there. To be extra safe, a few times I rebooted the phone. That always worked for me, though YMMV.

Fortunately the incontinence has gone away, but now I have a pet. I never really understood, either, why, after skipping an ad, that same ad will come up unskippable a few ad blocks later. Do they think I’ll suddenly become interested in this product if forced to watch the ad? That’s not even possible: I have a mute button and a phone to take my attention away from the television for that 30-60 seconds.

YouTube ads are stuck in the pre-Internet broadcast television era.

I'm not sure why Soros would hate Anime News Network and Youtube as much as he hates AoSHQ.

Somebody thinks that ads that are the equivalent of your TV turning itself on at full volume at 0300 are the way to make happy customers. Maybe for Gen Z and beyond, born with smartphones in hand, this is the only way to get through to their 2.4-second attention spans?

335 Well, I got around the corner with my wall cladding adventure. Finished the east wall, hung one panel on the north wall. Had to rejigger my hoisting apparatus from "right handed" to "left handed". Will keep it that way for maybe 2 more panels, and then switch back.

Also got two more brake drums turned. May as well continue that, too, as long as I have drums to turn. The machine makes a pass automatically, and then the carriage stops moving when it hits the limit switch. So managing it fits in well with doing other work in the same room.

That also obscures an Interesting Thing that happened about 1 million years ago . Note the Pleistocene is where we settled in a hard Icehouse state. Climate oscillates between glacial and interglacial periods.

You'll see temperature is an oscillation imposed on a much longer long term trend. Those oscillations are Milankovitch cycles afoot.

Now, before that, the cooling/warmer cycle, which became glacial/interflacia was primarily a 40K year cycle. The oscillation of the earth's axial tilt (obliquity) was the main driver.

But about 1 million years ago mid-Pleistocene, that shifted to a 100K cycle of more intense swings. That 100K period is the main harmonic of the earth's eccentricity cycle.

Brit Lass had a word with the head nurse the next day and got me moved to a private room - what can I say, the woman has a way with words, and when she looks at you a certain way, you tend to do the thing she asks you to do.

Anyway... the punchline is at some point either in the 24 hours before, during or after my stay with him, the guy they put me in with tried to attack a nurse with something sharp. He was a known "crazy".
