She has more clothes than she needs, clearly, so doing laundry can stretch out for a loooonnnggg time. We packed a huge box of books to donate, I threw out a ton of stuffed animals, kept a few special ones, threw out 8 billion markers and colored pencils. She still has a ton, even after the purge. She has her own attached bathroom - lots of 1/2 empty lotion and potion bottles strewn across everywhere. Gone. She was suddenly inspired to organize her make up drawer before that disappeared off the counter and is now folding laundry. Her big sisters warned her - if you see mama coming with black trash bags, she is not playing. Is it just my imagination, or is the Democratic Party putting forward more absolute loons at one time, at all levels of government, than ever before during this election cycle? In the interest of truth in labeling, I believe the donks should be compelled to accept the following coat of arms, which I have taken the liberty of describing using heraldic language: Two butterfly nets in saltire, surmounted by a savage statant affronté in a straitjacket, on the dexter a cuckoo bird close guardant, on the sinister a dodo bird close guardant. The "savage" in heraldry, incidentally, is typically depicted as a naked, bearded human figure, covered in hair or leaves. Perfect. Posted by: Paco at August 04, 2026 08:36 PM (2L+MU) 83

Braenyard, you know how we scream about historical narratives that are loaded on one side or another of a political or social viewpoint, and refer to such "political revisions" or "historical parsing" as revisionist history or pure cherry picked propaganda?
So, that is what you have posted. Haiti is a far more nuanced history that has few heroes, and lots of bad actors making gobs of money out of the Haitian people. Among them is the US government. Everyone, including Haitian politicians, are responsible for the shithole Haiti is today. Posted by: Kindltot at August 04, 2026 08:51 PM (rbvCR) 110
After their slave revolt, Haiti’s founder ordered the killing of all white people on the island. Soldiers went house to house killing thousands including women and children.
Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at August 04, 2026 08:45 PM (79aIp) I believe there were German...soldiers?... on the island that they legally declared to be negroes and allowed to live. Fun fact! The Haitian slave revolt and subsequent genocide likely resulted in the prolonging of slavery in America. Slave owners were shit scared they'd be murdered if their slaves were suddenly freed. Instead, we got a brutal civil war. Thanks, Haiti! Posted by: Robert at August 04, 2026 08:54 PM (dpXJq) 111

3 It’s been a day. Cleaning my kids room. I had enough of her saying she was “working on it”. We are now up to 6 trash bags. If it was something she needed, it should not have been on the floor.
Posted by: Piper ------ I'm this >< close to doing the same thing with the spawn. She can out shoot most people but she can't keep her room clean. I'm hoping being in the corps of cadets helps with this problem. It's still a year away though. Posted by: lin-duh at August 04, 2026 09:03 PM (VCgbV) 119

Lucy is finally feeling a bit better. The infected cyst at the base of her tail burst while I was out of town. I took her to the emergency vet when I got home and they drained it and gave her a shot of abx and some pain meds. It’s still ghastly looking, but she’s feisty and purring and eating.
Scared the crap out of me though. It was nasty and stank. Posted by: nurse ratched. at August 04, 2026 09:04 PM (yEz+x) 122

But the office staff was awesome (despite the facial piercings and tats and they guy wearing a sting of pearls). And the delineated pronouns on their badges. Posted by: polynikes at August 04, 2026 09:01 PM (KC5Lt) actually those facts are well known. The ones that aren't listed here are the Leclerc expedition that sought to re-enslave Haiti after the French Republic declared them free, and the genocidal acts by the Leclerc expedition carried out, including murdering every native troop the French had under their control as the first act of depopulating the island prior to importing new slaves. This explanation does not include the harsh forced repayment for each "slave freed" when the Leclerc expedition fled from the island, and it does not discuss the severe damage forced currency conversions from US banks to repay loans foisted on Haiti's economy. I've known some Haitians, and upper class ones, not the sorts that live in Cite Soleil - a friend of mine had contact there and hated it. Haiti is a terrible place, and it is not that way due to some inherent fault of the Haitians. They had lots of help in degradation Posted by: Kindltot at August 04, 2026 09:15 PM (rbvCR) 134
