Supposedly. Scott Bessent and Marco Rubio say a deal is imminent-adjacent.

This doesn't sound like a bona fide deal to me. This sounds like more duplicitous Iranian bullshit, still insisting they get to control the Strait and charges "tariffs" on oil ships, which they then use to buy missiles to shoot at Americans:

Although Bessent insisted a future deal would include "freedom of movement," a Reuters report published on Tuesday morning said Iran was expecting to maintain control of inbound traffic in the Strait of Hormuz in a deal being negotiated with Oman, citing an Iranian source. Outbound traffic would take a route between the two countries, and Iran would maintain oversight on those traffic lanes as well.
Despite Iran's past insistence they were not directly negotiating with the U.S., Trump said on Monday the talks were "going on right now." The president said he called off strikes over the weekend, which he claimed would have been "harder than any attack... since World War II." Trump said the talks were "backed" by other countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. "I want to give them every last chance before decapitation," he said later.

Meanwhile, Fox News reports that someone high up in the government, or even in the White House, leaked top-secret plans for the massive aerial bombardment of Iran over the weekend.

They don't say this leak caused the attack to be scuttled. Trump says that our "Gulf allies" requested the attack be delayed.

Trump already pulled the strikes after requests from Iran and Gulf allies. Now the White House has to hunt down the leaker.
Whoever did this needs to be found, fired, and prosecuted.

I at least have to mention a possibility that I don't like much: Trump loves gabbing to the press, especially New York media liberals who absolutely despise him. No one can stop him from constantly talking to Maggie Haberman, for example. Although Trump is a strong conservative in most ways, he shares a grave flaw with RINO liberals: The opinions of the New York/DC liberal media operatives still matter to him.

So who knows. Maybe he leaked some information after he'd already decided to hal the attack, and wanted people to know that he was serious this time, seriously you guys.

Iran has never "controlled" any traffic in the Strait, never will control any traffic, and couldn't do so even if it really really really wanted to.

People who report on this bullshit have obviously never seen a map of the Strait or have any understanding about maritime shipping through the Strait. They seem to think the Strait is like the Panama Canal, or some other ocean passage that's narrow enough to put a toll bridge over.

I don't understand how that's even supposed to work as a negotiating tactic, since you're obviously not going to fool someone into thinking he said something he never said.
