I know this because a guy I used to know got caught using the Spenard Sportfishing technique (bashing salmon with rocks then wading out to pick them up). The charge was "molesting wildlife", which I gather provided a great deal of amusement for the other guys on the chain when they were brought in for arraignment the next morning.

As he told the tale, several of them caught contempt charges because they couldn't stop laughing.

Now that you made me actually go back and read it, I'm not sure why "Chevrolet" is in that list of model names. IIRC, there was an Impala SS. Can't think of any other SS models offhand.

Grandpa was a gas station owner and was his own mechanic. Dad said they went on vacation for a week when he was a kid, and broke the car axle on the way back home. Even though Grandpa was able to walk down from where it broke down to a garage that had one in stock, he cussed the entire time since it was the first time his hands had been completely clean for years.

Worked with a guy whose father was Robert Hogan. According to his family lore, Hogan's Heroes was supposed to be his project, but the network wanted Bob Crane in the lead instead. I think Mr. Hogan appeared in a few episodes. He also played a helicopter pilot in a MASH episode.

104 I have a bumper hitch that fit on those cars from the 30's with the flat bumpers. Henry Ford had this idea of having harley build what eventually became the servi-car, which was a 3 wheel trike with a harley flathead engine. You might recognize them as the old 3 wheel things that ice cream vendors used. Ford's original purpose was to have ford mechanics show up at your home or place of work, use a bumper hitch designed for the servi-car that clamped around the bumper. and then they could tow your car in for service and then deliver it back to you. Ford, fucking scumbag that he was, kept changing specs and requirements for the servi-car hoping that it would bankrupt harley so he could buy the company for pennies. Harley said fuck you henry, and produced it how they liked it, marketed it themselves, and told ford to eat shit. I have one of those special hitches. It has the harley emblem on it and fits the model A's and some of the later cars.

Well, they didn't make a Scotsman Champ. The entire Scotsman line went away when the Lark model was introduced. They did make Scotsman pickups in '58 - '59, and they were basically throwbacks to the early '50's models. The Champ pickup was introduced in 1960, and its cab was based on the front half of a Lark 4-door sedan. They should have used a 2-door sedan; the longer doors would have made for a much roomier cab.

There were a few dealers who specialized in it. Baldwin-Motion and Yenko are the 2 I can bring to mind right now. Somewhat valuable cars to say the least! Don't think I've seen a real one in person.

137 I liked those industrial type shop hand washers. Two or three guys can wash hands simultaneous. (Union sez you get a 5 or 10 minute washup period after work, on the clock, you know)

With foot activation, the water sprayed in an arc pattern. A powdered soap dispenser on top, some cheap stuff, but worked well enough.

I we happened into the poison ivy, Grammi would haul your sorry ass down to the creek and scrub the top layers of your skin off with homemade lye soap and handfuls of sand.

Though I must say it prepared me well for my future motorcycle crashes when I ground off large patches of skin.

Ostensibly, the auto was operable...just needed service of some kind, even just an oil change. Service guy rode the trike to the car and hitched trike to the rear with a clamp-on hitch, drove car to service center. Reverse to deliver car to owner, then trike back to shop.

I'm with you on this one. There seems to be a gap between the fallen log and whatever the horses are standing on. I've been on a horse that was up on a rock ledge and know not how anyone could get those horses on top of the sequoia without a heckuva fight. At the very least!

It does indeed. Masculinity "equals" strength. They are trying to project strength - and a mostly unapologetic DSA will very suddenly get that done.

All a dumb population (mostly) wants is a strong leader. Hence Trump. They are replicating what Trump did in 2016 but this time as a "movement" - with no nominal leader it stays diffuse and difficult to attack or brand.

By keeping it as two sides "fighting" they get to slither around every criticism and message around any problem. Any criticism of the establishment by Republicans is addressed by the radicals, and any criticism of the radicals is addressed by the establishment. Any criticism really, automatically supports the Democrats. Like Cucky Schumer just said, "it's a big tent". This has been well thought out.

Mark my words, though - Trump will get a say.

Then, somebody decided to remodel the restroom-- they replaced that magnificent wash station with 2 puny little lavatory sinks. Dispensers for go-jo and liquid hand soap (that were not promptly refilled when empty) Pfft.

Yup, that was exactly it. I had that hitch for years and never knew what it was for. I figured it out about 20 years ago when I just happened to read an article about it. I was like holy shit, I have that hitch. I only kept it because of the harley emblem on the knob that tightens the clamp.

Pie is what I do. Pi radians determine how much pie you get. I used to get invited to Sunday dinner at my parents' house if I brought pie. I got very good at it.

Apple, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, chocolate silk, banana cream, chess, pumpkin, cranberry walnut, mincemeat, blueberry dream, lemon shaker, lemon merengue, and the occasional odd chicken pot pie. And others from time to time, but I would need recipes for them. I don't for any of the above.

You will have to fight with DH over the number of pi radians you receive. He may eat all of it.

186 Today, I cleaned up some of the messes I made in the last few days of work, and then got into doing "body work" on the fiberglass body shell of my dune buggy project. Te battery tray was heavily slathered with tan-colored body filler, which really has no structural strength to speak of. But I had to cut off the bottom two inches to make clearance for the anti-sway bar I had installed on the rear swing axles. Out comes the sawzall. Cut out in 2 minutes. There were similar great globs of body filler in other places, too, notably the front corners of the mounting flange area where it is supposed to bolt to the floor pan. I ground all the filler off with a flap wheel. Huge dust cloud ensued. "Now, will this body fit the floor pan?" I had previously found that sitting the body direct on the floor pan caused the shock towers to hit the underside of the body; not optimal. So I had made a "shim" from 1 1/4" light gauge square steel tubing, jigged up on the floor pan itself, with holes drilled to match the body mount holes on the floor pan. I took this shim, and inverted it, and placed it on the inverted body tub. 1/2

With the shim on the inverted body tub, it was clear that the body was about an inch short in the attaching flange area. I clamped the shim securely at the rear, where it fit pretty well, and went to work at the front. I ran the sawzall down both sides, and inch back from the front toeboard, almost to the top rail of the body. I could then push the bottom of the toeboard forward until it flange mated pretty well with the shim. Clamped that. Went around the perimeter, pulling the body flange into close alignment with the shim, clamping them, drill out the mount hole in the fiberglass flange, and fasten with a bolt and washers. All done. Drove 5 Tek screws through the mounting flange into the front arch of the shim (no bolt holes there). Weather permitting tomorrow, I will use mat and resin to rebuild the front corners where I made the saw cuts.

Also, the Judge in this case limited protection to members of Gun Owners of America and other named plaintiffs.

We fought for a nationwide injunction, but the Judge did not grant it to us.

So, because of the ruling, we're encouraging everyone who would like protection from the National Firearms Act's registration requirements to become GOA members.

Back in the '80s a friend got into family housing on Elmendorf (as it was then). There was a full basement with a laundry sink in it that he rigged up as a man cave (though that expression wasn't around then). Computer, dart board, old sofas, refrigerator, TV, etc.

Since they didn't even have a washer and drier, it was clear to all of us that the sink was clearly for the express purpose of making us not have to go upstairs to get rid of used beer.

However, when his wife found out, she disagreed. Strongly.

Didn't matter that she never used the sink for anything. It was just Something That Was Not Done.

He agreed to stop doing that, then promptly ignored the agreement.

For Christmas one year I got the Jonny 7 in 1 attack rifle with Screaming Mesmee grenade attachment. The Grenade was this big red thing that would shoot off the end of your rifle with a spring load or something, and it would make this loud wailing WOWowWowowWOWow shrieking sound.

236 One of the best street racers I ever saw was a 1963 Chevy II two door with a 327 / 4 speed dropped into it. Those early Chevy II’s were little more than go-karts with metal roofs, I’d be surprised if it weighed over 2000 lbs. with an engine like that in one it could pull the front wheels off the ground.

My blackcaps did very well for plants I dug up and transplanted from the woods. The thimbleberries have lush leaves and thick canes and have not given me one berry so I am going to dig them up and put in some Marionberries instead.
I think both of them will survive the root rot that killed my raspberries. And if not, I will burn them down and put them elsewhere.

I can only do so much blackberry jam, though. I have done a case of jars so far, and I am trying to cut back on sugar. I might try to make some blackberry cordial, though maybe not. I bought a fifth of cheap white rum for baking, and I only use so much for that.
My late plums are coming next, and I will be canning and drying those until I see them in my sleep, do I may decide to not.

Yeah. I checked after I typed. The main "donut hole" from mouth to exit, plus 6 other holes that connect to that passage through the nose and eyes. So a human is a genus-7 torus.

That's also related to one of my favorite bits of biological trivia.

When a human is first developing, it starts as a single cell. Eventually, it's a ball of cells. The first "physical feature" to develop is a single indentation, or pore, on that ball of cells.

Eventually, that pore extends through the embryo and becomes the alimentary canal.

But that first indentation is not the entrance; it's the exit.

So, before any of us were anything else, we were all just an asshole.

A sphere is almost perfect symmetry. Almost divine symmetry, you might call it. A 2-sphere (the surface of a "3-ball" ) has constant positive Gaussian curvature, just 1/r^2, where is the radius.

Every point a sphere is the same as any other.

The development of differential geometry is a fascinating thing. From Gauss to Riemann, who perfected it. And there it was, something abstract theory of curvature of spaces of arbitrary dimension that just sat on a shelf, seemingly some abstract thing with no real physical usefullness. Then Einstein came along with General Relativity.

Yeah thats fucked. I think when I do the pole barn I'll put a harley themed man cave in there since that's what will be going on in there. I'm thinking 75% work area, and 25% hang out area thats isolated from the shop area. It won't have a bathroom either, but its kinda rural around here, so stepping outside to pee isn't a problem. Key word is outside. lol

The Poincare Conjecture was all about spheres. Is any simply connected surface (no holes, meaning you can contract a closed curve down to a point without hitting anything) topologically equivalent to a sphere.

The crazy thing was it it was proven in dimensions of 5 or greater well before, and was relatively easy. Then came 4 dimensions.

Proving it for 3 dimensions was a bitch. It was finally proven in 2003 by a reclusive Russian mathematician, who looks like Rasputin.

That is a beautiful thing, and Gauss was just blown away by that result. Thus we have the distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic curvature.

Take a cylinder (infinitely long). That has extrinsic curvature, it must curve in the 3D embedding space, but *on the surface*, using only 2D measurements you can make, it is completely flat, zero Gaussian curvature. There's that property of wrapping around back to where you started in one of the dimensions, but that's just a bit of topological distinction, not the intrinsic geometry.

We tend to want to think of curved surfaces (or higher dimensional curved spaces) in terms of some higher dimensional, flat Euclidean embedding space. We can see "why" the metric is so weird and not Euclidean.

The intrinsic curvature picture says forget about the embedding spaces. A space need not have any higher dimensions in which to curve. Just take the surface for it is, a non-Euclidian geometry.
