First World Problems [Doof]

doof-fwp-080226.jpg

That's a 24 inch linear shower drain. It's in the master bathroom (yes, I still use that term) of the house I'm currently renting. That's only relevant to convey that this was NOT a drain setup that I intentionally chose. Sure, it's a clean finished look to match the stone of the shower floor. But it is a pain in the ass to maintain.

What's so difficult about it? I'm glad you asked!

The actual drain part below that 24" x 3" slab is only 1.5 or 2 inches in diameter. That little basket sits in the drain. If anyone with even a moderate amount of hair on their head (obviously not referring to myself here) uses the shower regularly, the basket fills up with hair seemingly every other day. Water doesn't drain well through hair, so the shower floor becomes a lake of soapy water.

The slab is heavy. I think it's concrete with stones grouted (or whatever the term is) over it. That little tool next to the basket is what you use to lift it up. It also can be used to grab the wad of hair in the basket. The slab itself is clunky and slippery! Careful where your fingers are if it slips out of your other hand or tips over when titled up on the shower floor (ask me how I know). There are 4 little plastic clips underneath of the slab that hold it in place and keep it flush with the shower floor. Guess what? Those clips like to collect hair, too!

I've tried just letting the hair go down the drain without the basket. It makes a little bit of difference as far as the intervals between clearing the drain. But the clips still collect hair, and then what appears to be a small hairy rodent is trapped in the drain.

Since this isn't my house, I can't tear up the shower floor and redo it. But I am certain that I will NEVER have a set up like this in any house I own. Give me the ugly 4 inch drain plate in the middle of the shower floor any day!

8 I've stayed in some high-end places that do it better. The drain is actually old school. You build up the tile, or stone, or whatever, and have a great big blind gap where the water flows. Big enough where you can still use a Zip Strip or something else to retrieve hair. And its always hair, and my cat doesn't sneak in there and shower ... who could it be ?

So its just a one course higher toe stubber, but if done with good materials it looks really good. How they make that final connection under the masonry or tile I do not know. But it looks classy as Hell. And if you're so drunk you stub your toe ? Oh well.

21 I have an old fashioned tub drain that actually collects most hair on top. Swipe it with a rag after showering to get the hair and lint. No need to mess with a basket. I almost always just shower in it. I was going to do an epsom salt soak a couple months ago and the inline plug would work. So I looked at the push to seal replacements but most all of them have a basket to collect hair. "just rinse the hair out" Sure wu, like I want to have my sink get all that hair, or have to go outside to the hydrant to rinse it out. I started to type sure Jack, but these are Chinese products.

95 Sony is demanding I sign in to my account periodically or it won't let us use the good old PS4. I thought I solved the problem by not allowing the console to connect to the internet, but evidently a timer was downloaded with the last, unexpected update in June. I don't want to pay a subscription fee to play Blurays or old games.

WOAH 🚨 Secretary of State Marco Rubio CONFIRMS they have evidence that the mass protesters that come out for different protests like Anti-ICE, pro-Hamas and even the 2020 protests ARE ALL THE SAME PROTEST GROUPS

“There's nothing organic about it. It is funded, it is organized.” They just remake signs for each different protest

“They were the same people you saw on the streets burning things in 2020. They then flip it around and they become the pro-Hamas protesters, then they flip it around and within 48 hours of Maduro's arrest have pre-printed signs outside the courthouse demanding his release. Then they're out there doing the ICE stuff, attacking ICE agents.

There's nothing organic about it. It is funded, it is organized, and Cuba is a part of that network, and in some cases, a critical part of that [ . . .]

111 My dog Ralphy is still alive.

Last Sunday I was thinking I'd have to put him to sleep but the vet increased the dosage of his pain pills and he's good as new.

People come by and he shows an insane amount of life for being 105. 15 this month. He's a rescue dog so that's the best I have. And he loved and adored my late mother, stood by her every minute so he's getting that same amount of love.

I'm in a two level split. Ralphy is fine in and out of the house where there are two stairs and he has a running jump. But 44 pound puppy gets lifted and carried up and down the stairs in the house. I have gates blocking stairs because he gets a "Hey, Check this out!" look in his eyes.

It's a bit tiring since he wants to be with me all the time. But we've been finding balance. A lot of carrying but that's alright.
