- Microsoft has vowed to make Windows 11 actually work in 8GB of RAM, which is timely given that the company is shipping Windows PCs with 8GB of RAM. (Tom's Hardware)
Before the DRAM Apocalypse advice was simple: Do not buy a system with 8GB of RAM unless it is user-upgradable and you plan to immediately upgrade it.
Now the advice is more along the lines of: Buy a Mac, or run Linux.
Since both of those options hit Microsoft below the water line, the company is finally bothering to start to unshit its bed. Long overdue and the outcome remains to be seen, but at least they're trying. Or claiming to try.

My dream veered close to nightmare. I was moving into an apartment with a garage on the same day I was slated for an oral surgeon visit. Somehow I got everything moved in, and was tiredly trying to put things into place in the living room, when i realized I was late. In theory, we are supposed to get some rain this afternoon or evening, and a little less humidity tomorrow. Ah believes it when Ah feels it. Though it does happen, and it's memorable. When I bought my '97 Mercedes C-Class in early August '03, the next few days had a drop in humidity, and I was able to wash and wax the whole car without heatstroke.

There was a 4th cat (stray picked up by older son), but he lives in his "not-a-girlfriend"'s house...stupid as a bag of rocks. Ate a plastic food tray, resulting in over a $1000 (thousand dollars for those who can't read the $ correctly). Still eats food like a feral cat, chasing, growling, and swatting other cats away while eating.

Part of that has been trying to make every little thing part of Windows. Part of that has been just an attitude of "Hey, computers have more capability now, maybe we should use it!" Which is fine, until it comes at the expense of other things you could use it for - like speed, or other programs.

I went to the local bookstore in the student bar area called Aggieville next to the KSU campus.
Very tony; very woke. It used to be a used book store.
A worker who was clearly woke and unlearned but pretentious and sanctimonious, and I had a brief conversation on Before the Dawn, which was not there.
The economics section did not have any Sowell, and the SF section was almost devoid of the authors I liked. Ender's Game[i/] was there, but no Heinlein, Ryk L. Spoor, or Matt Hughes.

No, they don't. Microsoft hasn't given a damn about the consumer revenue from Windows for over a decade. It's why the Windows 10 & 11 upgrades were free. All the Windows revenue comes from long term license agreements with large corporations. They're tuning Windows 11 because those large corporations can no longer source 16GB hardware in quantity from the big Wintel vendors, and all their employees are running on 3-5 year old hardware due to be refreshed.
