What started as one awkward TikTok turned into a full cultural phenomenon: color-coded diagnosis guessing games, AuDHD parties, autism cupcake toppers at Walmart, Oriental Trading disability party favors, and people treating their mental health diagnoses like a baby to nurture and celebrate.
We watch the videos (including the "my brain is bad" one and the completely unhinged joke-diagnosis party that ends in pure Adderall cheers), dig into the Reddit posts from people who actually have autism and hate the idea, talk about why so many people suddenly want disabilities they don't have, and connect it to identity collapse, tax-advantaged ABLE accounts, and the pure Darwinian spectacle of watching people turn their diagnoses into their entire personality.

Malcolm makes the point that people want to feel proud of something, but Current Year Norms say you can't be proud of your race (obviously), your culture (that's almost race), your country (so racist), your religion (race-adjacent) or your accomplishments (which you only have due to your race).

So what are people allowed to be -- nay, encouraged to be -- proud of?

Obviously: Their sexuality -- as long as it's Not Straight! -- and their mental illnesses.

I missed this earlier: DSA candidate for WI governor said she had an anxiety attack because there were too many "old white people" near her.

I just watched a Nate Friedman doc on Spain (33 min. pretty slow but good, on his x account.) and it occurs to me that a lot of these people who want migrants want them because they think they will work.

They do not work themselves, but have this vague idea that someone has to in order for their checks from the government to keep clearing. It comforts them to think migrants will work, and they are at no risk of natives having to or benefits being cut.

My ex used to by pot from a gay friend of hers in San Fransicko (we lived in The East Bay). He was living with -- and taking care of -- a younger deaf gay man. Very nice guys.

Anywho, they invited over to a party one weekend afternoon, and we arrived late (traffic). I was confused because I didn't see many cars or hear any noise coming from their place.

Turns out it was all deaf as well as deaf & blind individuals. They were engaging in communication with each other in the back yard, using sign language (which my ex and I had been expected to learn from these guys since the deaf ones had to learn to lip read).

The most amazing aspect were some guys signing with their fingers in the palms of the blind & deaf individuals -- who could feel what signs they were making with their hands. Pretty cool ...

I was born in '72. I'm just now transitioning into that phase they call "old". Pisses me off.

But it was a unique time to be alive. Because I grew up on game consoles and also getting your ass outside. MTV when they had videos. I watched the Internet happen.

And I was wrong. Because I thought it would be so great, that everybody would have the World's Library at that little Oak Express Table we used to buy. Kind of like a Microwave Stand. But for a Computer and a Monitor.

It turns out, it was better when you had to give at least a little effort to get to the Public Library. It was a self-sorting kind of thing. And most people really don't need much knowledge. They just need to be told what to do.

I hate it. But that's Human Nature.

There were some reports that more than half the invaders left because of that.

All the shop owners and stores, restaurants, everything closed and people stayed home.

I don't know if that many left, but it makes sense.

305 Been in Black River Falls maybe 5 or so times over the years of travel, maybe even in that Culver's, though probably not. I look forward to getting off the road there. A cousin or '1st cousin' is your aunt or uncles kids. So you share a grandparent with them.

2nd cousin is a set of the grandparents were siblings so they have a common great-grandparent.
