Not soon enough. All the donuts are gone. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel --- Gah, went grocery shopping today. At the entrance aisle they have a long narrow table, always with goodies. Today, at the end, was boxes of glazed donuts. Beautiful glazed donuts. I averted my eyes. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at July 31, 2026 07:21 PM (H5gG/) 14
Re that Phobos video. Those are taken from real images by Mars Express orbiter, but they are highly processed time lapse composites. That was done by someone named Andrea Luck. Phobos orbits very close to Mars and is very fast, well within the areostationary radius (how's that for a word?). It thus rises in the west and sets in the east as seen on surface, and does that about twice every Martian day. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at July 31, 2026 07:33 PM (w6EFb) 30

Posted by: Skip at July 31, 2026 07:31 PM (Ia/+0) I gave up years ago fighting the rabbits and confined myself to only planting flowers in my garden that they (and the deer) don't like to eat. My neighbors, bless them, carry on with a vegetable garden. It's wired like a Luftstalag. And still the little bastards find their way in. The guys at JPL (and the ESA) that operate the rovers and orbiters sync themselves with the Martian mean solar day, which is about 24 hours and 40 minutes long. They've got watches and clocks synced to that and operate shifts on the Martian solar day cycle, which gets out of sync with the earth. They call a Martian day a Sol, and get cute with it, with terms like yestersol, tosol, and solorrow. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at July 31, 2026 07:41 PM (w6EFb) 44

I deserve it. Posted by: Tonypete at July 31, 2026 07:42 PM (lvbMS) Our contractor has been doing that. We are living in the camper while renovations proceed. So far they have pulled out the offending kitchen, laundry room and bathroom, and framed up the breezeway and bedroom. Roofs are on, windows are mostly in. Plumbers and tinners were there this week, and did most of that work to rough-in. Furnace installed, new partitions framed. Back when we were young and stupid, we did this kind of work ourselves. Now it's just easier to pay and be done. Posted by: tcn in AK at July 31, 2026 07:46 PM (l2EPa) Posted by: Orson at July 31, 2026 07:47 PM (dIske) 53
