Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.
Prayer Requests:
5/23 – I used to have a Different Nic could use some prayers as he waits for the results of a biopsy of a mass on his prostate.
6/23 Update – The latest update is that he has stage 2, “unfavorable intermediate”, which he notes is an awful name, but what it means is, it is in the middle, but bad enough that they want to treat it. It’s more aggressive than previously thought. He is at the point where he has to decide on treatment options, which means choosing which set of pretty unfortunate side effects he prefers.
7/6 Update – He has gotten a second opinion, and selected the option for treatment, which should begin next week.
7/18 Update – He has started radiation treatment. No side effects thus far.
6/18 – buzzion asked for prayers for a friend named Christina, who has struggled with drug addiction and is in jail again. Buzzion prays that this really is rock bottom and a true wake-up call for her – even if it requires her to stay in jail.
6/29 Update – Christina’s family bonded her out of jail and she has checked into a rehab facility. Please pray that she gets the help she needs.
7/11 Update – Thank you to everyone for your prayers. Christina is doing well in rehab. Please pray that she continues through this and keeps working through it even after getting out of her program.
6/20 – bluebell gave an update on grammie Winger. Grammie had some major surgery related to her cancer in March and is pretty much housebound. She said she isn’t keeping up on news since her diagnosis; she doesn’t have the energy. She said she thinks of her grey-box friends often with fondness. Please keep praying for her. Your prayers are a source of great comfort to her.
6/27 Update – grammie winger requested bluebell to let the Horde know that she is hospitalized again, with sepsis, and cannot eat or walk. She is very tired and cannot speak for long. She is being fed by tube. They don’t know how long she will be hospitalized or where she will go after (rehab, hospice, etc.). Bluebell has a mailing address for grammie, so please contact bluebell to send a card or note to grammie winger. Please pray for her, that her suffering will be eased, and pray for her family, who are suffering along with her.
7/4 – grammie winger posted her thanks for the sweet, sweet cards and letters. She said she treasured each and every one of the Horde reprobates. She can’t express the love she has as she sits there in the cancer hospital.
6/27 – Tom Servo posted prayers of thanks to God that his 38 year-old daughter, who was released from a psych hospital this week after a particularly bad breakdown. She has 2 children, which she does not have custody of, but she still sees, and they are wonderful. She has received more professional care, and it appears to have helped quite a bit. She has new medication and a new commitment to living in a way that will keep her from making a return trip to the hospital.
6/27 – George V sent his thanks to the Horde for their prayers. We had prayed for his wife in May, when she had a heart valve replacement, and there were indications of problems in her lymph nodes. She received the biopsy results, and both came back negative for cancer! Thank God for his goodness!
6/27 – “A” sent thanks for the prayers for a family friend, who is at home recovering with the family and doing much better. “A” has an additional request for long-time friends (J and S) who are in the midst of intense family problems and requesting healing, peace, repentance, and restoration in the family.
7/18 Update – “A” sends his thanks to all the prayer warriors for all the personal concerns listed here. The requests above are all doing better. Prayer really works. Sometimes the results are not what we expected but end up being what we really needed for other reasons. Thank you all!
7/2 – Publius asked for prayers for his 96 year old mother, who had emergency surgery when a massive hematoma on her leg ruptured, and they couldn’t stop the bleeding due to her being on blood thinners. Things were not looking good, but Publius posted later she received blood thinner reverser medication, and was fully conscious and alert after surgery.
7/10 Update – Publius’ mother was moved to a nursing home for post-acute therapy. At this point, she is very weak but is coming back physically. But her mind is in La La Land.
7/13 Update – Publius’ mother has experienced an absolute miracle. She has come back, fully conscious and cogent. The Lord Almighty has decided her time is not complete.
7/3 – San Franpsycho posted that Mrs. F. was admitted to the hospital from the ER visit, and asks for prayers for a complete and immediate recovery for her. She was conscious enough to phone him late last night, and it was a great relief that she was awake even for a short period. She continues with IV fluids and atb. Further steps and hopefully improvement await the results of lab tests. The caring concern shown by so many morons has been a great relief. Thank you.
7/5 Update – Mrs. F. remains hospitalized while being treated for salmonella poisoning. She has had some improvement, but is on Day 5 of not being able to keep down any nourishment.
7/11 Update – Mrs. F. came home on 7/7, and has finished her oral antibiotics. They are very grateful for the prayers for healing.
7/4 – Duke Lowell humbly asked for prayers for the nurses who will have to put up with him, when he goes in for (hopefully the last) surgery related to the events of last September.
7/4 – AH Lloyd requested prayers for his aunt, who was in a shattering collision on 6/29. She was hit by a semi at full speed through an intersection. She lost a lot of blood, but is out of ICU now.
7/4 – Random Dave posted the good news that the past week of interviews went very well. He also had a prayer request for his grand-niece, who has not been growing properly. She’s about 5 or 6. The growth plates are fine but has not grown in over a year. They have found an intestinal or bowel blockage and may need surgery.
7/4 – Dr. No sent his thanks for the prayer list and the Horde’s prayers that helped his daughter in her recoveries from (a) cancer and (b) knee replacement surgery. She’s doing fine now.
7/7 – Weak Geek asked for prayers for the survivors of RG and KG, a couple in their 90s who were pillars of their church for decades. They were knifed to death on 7/3 by their grandson. The entire congregation is stunned. Please pray for them too, and the pastor, trying to help deal with the tragedy.
7/11 – Mis Hum asked for prayers for Some Rat. He has some serious health issues at this time.
7/11 – Fen requested prayers for comfort and strength for “C” and her mother. “C” is in her 30s and her father died after a several months long struggle with cancer.
7/11 – P, a long time lurker would appreciate prayers. He says he should have asked for prayers last year, when his stage 4 prostate cancer was first diagnosed, but he was too busy freaking out. A year and nine months later, he is still on hormone therapy and his PSA spiked recently. It’s back up to 92. He is supposed to start a drug trial soon. He knows from experience that prayer helps, and would greatly appreciate if anyone could include him in their prayers.
7/13 – Captain Obvious posted that he could use some prayers, as he was experiencing some kind of cardiac arrhythmia.
7/15 – Captain JS’ daughter needs prayers for his/her daughter. Early on 7/15, she experienced complete heart failure. She is in the ICU on a heart/lung machine. They will operate to see what is happening. Captain JS sends thanks in advance for the prayers and has faith in their power.
7/15 Update – Thanks to all who responded to Captain JS’ request for prayers. The daughter is still unconscious but is still alive. The doctors suspect a blockage to the left side of her heart. They are planning to take pictures and then insert a stent.
7/18 Update – Captain JS’ daughter passed away. Her heart, brain, and other organs were too damaged to regain function. Captain JS sends his thanks to the Horde for all the prayers.
7/20 – Tecumseh Tea posted that MrTea was diagnosed with colon cancer on 7/20. The doctor who did the colonoscopy said it is a large vascular tumor in the sigmoid. That’s all they know, but he has 3 CTs 7/23 and they see the oncologist on 7/28. They appreciate any and all prayers. Thank you.

From what I saw, his jokes were basically for himself to mock the press to their faces.

6 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

No covfefe for me. I am drinking a hot cup of Char Teas' "Winchester Breakfast" blend, although I am drinking it in a very hefty mug advertising Arbuckle's Ariosa Coffee. Arbuckle's was a famous coffee purveyor of the 19th and early 20th centuries, often called "The coffee that won the West." In order to preserve freshness, they developed a way to coat their beans in an egg wash and they also included a stick of peppermint candy in each bag.

The original company no longer exists, but a revived operation is in business today. I picked up a pound as a gift for a lady friend, and she says it's very good. But YMMV, of course.

9 It is 65 and sunny here at Stately Poppins Manor, with a high in the low 80s predicted. I'm back to editing my novel again; I'm on chapter 4 of 16. Right now, I'm correcting small errors, changing repetitive descriptions and so on. No major changes to the storyline, only small expansions / contractions where needed.

And I've still got this nasty cold, although it has boiled itself down to a blocked right ear, raw throat and a chest full of mucus.*

Trivia note: Beatles' manager Brian Epstein's memoir was called A Cellarful of Noise, a nod to the cramped basement of the Cavern Club in Liverpool. John Lennon sneered that, given Brian's predilections, it should have been titled A Cellarful of Boys.

13 Update on my youngest grandson's discernment of the priesthood:

1) A few weeks ago after Mass, one of the priests asked my grandson if he was considering the priesthood. Thy had not discussed this previously.

2) My grandson had a telecon that lasted for about 1-1/2 hours with a former Superior General of a religious order discussing the vocation of priesthood.

3) Last week, my grandson told the family that he wants to go to Seminary after high school.

Please continue to pray for "LH" while he continues to discern the vocation being a priest in the Catholic Church.

23 Such great news about MamaPublius! Praise God for miracles, and His mercy and grace.
I wanted to catch Miley or Publius on a live thread, but I never could, to encourage them. Elderly patients don't metabolize medication very quickly, and when they get a lot of meds, or have lots of anesthesia, it clouds their minds and they act strangely. Many families think this means dementia has set in, or that some latent personality traits are showing themselves suddenly, but often (not always, of course) when their body catches up and enough of the chemicals are flushed out, their clarity returns.
Such good news for this family.

I am still doing fine - pump seems to be working and everything appears stable for now. I am incredibly blessed!

Finished up the latest stocking for an as-yet-not-born grandchild; DD#3 and hubby started IVF last month. First attempt didn't take, so they will be trying again next month. Prayers for a successful procedure and subsequent pregnancy would be greatly appreciated! I am hoping that I will live long enough to see at least one more grandchild born.

We will be going out to California at the end of next week to visit DD#1 and her family - the grandsons are getting bigger every day. We can't wait to see them again 😊💕

Thank you for asking. It has been a hard week. We both will be glad to meet with the doctor on Tuesday and find out what we are facing.
MrTea is still working so that is very good for him to go and do/think about other things.
I'm all over the place. Fine one minute and weepy the next. Trying to be strong for our son, who does not understand but knows something is really wrong. He and his dad are very close, and he does a lot of M's care.
But, God is good, and He is faithful. And I know He hears our prayers. Ps 103 is my go-to right now.

What a wonderful young man! I have a young nephew who graduated from Texas A&M this year. Early on he asked to be the Chaplain for his unit (I’m not quite clear how the Corps is organized); by his senior year he was designated student chaplain for his entire graduating class. He has expressed a desire to go on with a career as Chaplain in the US military forces. Surprised all of us who knew him as an intelligent, but rather shy and reserved boy.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but IVF is not an unalloyed good. There is a very dark side to IVF: rejected fertilized eggs (i.e., microscopic human beings) are destroyed. Since the doctors are playing God, the Catholic Church opposes IVF.

I sympathize with couples that desperately want to be parents, but IVF makes me squeamish.

Are you talking about the homosexuals that got put into the Seminaries in the 1970s and 1980s? They were put there by the Communists that infiltrated into the Catholic Church in the 1930s and 1940s. Just about all of those men are dead - or soon will be.

The current generation of priests are much more orthodox and take their vows of celibacy seriously.

Tecumseh Tea.... I've been where you're standing. I sincerely hope that road leads you in a different direction than it took me. I was 30 yrs old with a 2 yr old child when my first husband passed from an aggressive lung cancer.

52 Boy F. is working 2 hours a week at the bakery and loves it. He took himself all the way home on the muni this week for the first time and was very proud of himself about that too.

77° here in North Alabama. Good morning everyone. All done with round one of shoulder PT for the day. Two more rounds to knock out. I've got back full range of motion after surgery on the 6th to repair the rotator cuff started very. PT lady added mild resistance with the bands yesterday to isolate the scapula muscles.

Backup, backup, backup. And often. I have 6 external drives that serve that single purpose. Because all of us have been there. With very important documents, paper copies as well. A couple of thumb drives for "spur of the moment" stuff come in handy as well. Drives can and do fail. More often than not, over years of use.

So many blessings from last weekend's visit with my sister-in-law. Got to meet my grandniece and nephew for the first time. My nephew and his wife have their hands full with their son's autism. Moderately functioning. He seemingly has an ability to tell you the exact time of day with no clock in sight. The daughter is wonderfully typical 11-year old, ably defending her Swiftie status under my withering attack.

Taking Little through my old neighborhood, going past the high school, pointing out storefronts, and finally, buying him his first Dickie Dees hot dog, were among the bucket list items checked during this road trip. The weather presented some challenges coming and going, but was uncannily gorgeous through the weekend. My heart is full. Praise God for his protection and provision...

I think there is some overlap between the two groups, and certainly unscrupulous bishops tried to make us believe that all of the gays were in this second, pitiable category when they weren't.

This is why panicking about the mid-terms is so stupid.

Many jurisdictions haven't even settled on the fall ballot yet. The stupid models are just that, and until you have actual candidates, the charts and tables are just there to waste everyone's time.

The Dems are nominating certified lunatics, so all the fancy "historic trends" are irrelevant, and we're now seeing that many of the elections built into the model were fixed.

The Dems have gotten lazy. They thought their cheating model would last forever, so they can just run whoever they want and win. Under the GOPe, they were right, but things are different now, and Trump 2.0 is hitting them from every side. That's why they are getting so violent.

This also tells you they know they are losing. Threats are for losers. "If we gain power again, we'll kill you!" is what weak people do. Strong people watch, take notes, and then settle the scores, because threats may cause people to chicken out, or fight that much harder. Stupid.

It's my opinion that homosexuals being intentionally put into the priesthood was part of Satan being granted 100 years to destroy the Catholic Church (ref. Pope Leo XIII's auditory experience). It seems that the 100 years is ending: see the dramatic rise in conversions into the Church and a much more orthodox, younger clergy.

My grandson has no interest in the Jesuits. Hopefully, Pope Leo XIV suppresses that order: it's well past time. They've lost their way.

He and I now have regular discussions after Mass concerning points of theology or Church teachings. LH mentioned last week that people are being put into his path that are giving him opportunities not available to every 16 year-old. As a matter of fact, he's going on a 1-day retreat today.

He's a young man that loves mission work, Adoration and the Eucharist. He's now one of the senior Altar Servers.

Thanks I hope so. Though some styles or techniques I might use on later paintings might not be someone's cup of tea. But that's okay. I have my own favorites that include some of my first paintings but I agree that it gets easier the more I do it and techniques have progressed.

I probably wasted much time figuring things out rather than take lessons but that's what I enjoy most.

His spouse had a planned trip overseas, and he will be alone for a few weeks.

What would anyone suggest his circle of very concerned friends do to keep his spirits up?

I can see him descend into despair, but grief is a difficult and very personal journey.

While that is true, the Catholic Church has gotten much better at recognizing the threat homosexuals pose. Back during the sexual abuse scandals of the 1990s, bishops were being advised to reassign priests rather than laicise (i.e., remove them from the priesthood). We now know that the people giving that advise to the bishops had their own pro-homosexuality agenda.

There is now a group called Courage that councils same-sex attracted people within the Catholic Church. Fr. James Martin and the Synod of Synodality do not like Courage. However, Pope Leo XIV met with people and priests involved with Courage to discuss their ministry.

Honestly, just go and sit with him. No need to talk at this point - there will be time for that later. After my late wife took herself out, a number of my buddies visited now and then for weeks afterward. We just sat there on the porch. Sometimes, I'd say something but most times not. As I look back it was exactly what I needed.

I appreciate the fact that the Catholic Church has moderated its stance on suicides. He was able to have a funeral mass, which in years past, it was not allowed. That was extremely beneficial for the surviving family.

The church has decided it's up to God to determine the state of mind the suicide was in and grant pardon, allowing mental illness as a mitigating factor. It's is not for our judgement.

But, George probably wouldn't have gone anywhere if the others hadn't been there. an okay songwriter that had to get better because Paul and John were schooling him indirectly every time they got together.

I didn't like the guilt . The guy was given a gift and should have embraced it. He wasn't stealing anything because he was in a different world. Who's to say the Beatles didn't wake up in a different world where they used songs from their previous world?

I would have liked the ending to include him playing a song he actually wrote that became a hit. I sure some songwriter could have written a good song for the movie.

Hertz, and maybe some of the others, offer the tall panel-side "work" vans for rental. Gas mileage will not be great but when I rented them they were *much* cheaper on the daily rate than the normal SUVs and sedans. Also has the advantage of having the entire cargo space climate controlled vs a box truck. I moved a lot of things I wanted to keep close.
I also used one of the "pod" options to move items that wouldn't fit in the rental van and/or my car, but that I wanted sooner than I woulkd have gotten in waiting fort the full load in the 18-wheeler (had an apartment rental for a short time).

I used a freeware program, called Recuva, to recover some lost documents when I had a hard drive go bad. I am sure there are others. Also mounting the drive in a Linux machine, and using Linux utilities to explore it might yield some success.

I loved Bloom County, and bought all the books as they came out.

Years later, as I began decluttering, I got rid of a bunch of them, saving only the peak years. I can sort of understand why Bill Waterson quit the way he did, because it's sad watching a strip descend into self-parody and mediocrity. Better to just ride off into the sunset on a high note.

Went to Baseball stadium with great seat tickets, "Cant bring in that clear bag any linger. They'll store it over there just add their app and add in your credit card info. Didn't go in.
