Sir David Wilkie

Like it though not what I pictured a Scottish farm.

National Galleries Organization - About this artwork
This painting was based on sketches that Wilkie made around 1815 during a retreat to the Wiltshire countryside from his permanent home in London. It is believed to show a scene at Fisherton Delamere, near Salisbury. Shortly before the painting was exhibited at the British Institution in 1817, he wrote to the great art patron and amateur landscape painter Sir George Beaumont. Wilkie asserted that although landscape painting was entirely new to him, the picture was done with the sole object of teaching himself how to ‘paint an out-door scene with facility’. Wilkie was a great admirer of seventeenth century Dutch landscapes, and this practical scene of work and nature recalls the paintings of Jacob van Ruisdael and Meindert Hobbema, especially in the inclusion of the water-wheel motif.

62 Sheep washing seems like it would be a lot of physical work . I like the painting, although I was not familiar with the painter. I think going to the Mideast back then was dangerous heath wise, since there is also a hymnwriter- whose name I can't recall at the moment- who also died coming back from the Mideast-amongst many others, I would guess.

My guess is that wool on the sheep is coated with water repellants like lanolin, while that has been stripped off after the sheep is sheared and the wool is turned into fabric. Or it could be sheep magic.

The man wearing the bright red vest catches your eye immediately. I don't know that poor sheepherders back then could afford such expensive dyes. Interestingly, the British officer class during the American Revolution were easy to target because only they could afford the best red dyes for their uniforms. Seems...unwise.

For some reason there's a blockage in front. Sheepdog jumps up on the back of a sheep and runs the length of the sheep on their backs up to the front to break up the jam. Then runs all the way back. Again, on their backs.

I have noticed a wool blanket is more comfortable and “warmer” than a synthetic blanket for some reason. There’s some synergy going on, or they breathe better, or something.

The military went to synthetic fleece garments for some very good reasons, but what they have found was they pick up a funky BO odor that does not wash out readily at all. Don’t get me started on the scam that is Gore-Tex

I like some the Hudson Bay blankets, though not the classic point blanket. The color scheme looks weird, though I’d take one.

The best bang for the buck in wool gear used to be West German wool field pants. About ten bucks at the Army surplus stores. I’ve a pair of Dachstein mitts that are real good, too. I always wanted one of their pullovers but they cost a fortune.

That’s the best part of this story! Texas Dems have been literally buying Black votes for 30 years. Talarico’s campaign was trying to pull back on that and spend elsewhere. Black leaders, etc, told him no money, none of them show up and he doesn’t break 30% in the general.
So of course he’s on his knees begging for mercy and promising anything.
