We have been nibbling at 100 degrees almost daily for around 10 days now.

Heat index of 113 and above have been the norm during that time.

So either walk in the early morning with 99% humidity and lower temperatures, or mid morning when the temps climb but the RH drops down.

He goes on a couple of tangents, but ends with how the AI fakes copy not only the look but also the business model of existing channels, which is to sell their own instructional material that they made.

So, if someone fails to detect the AI and buys guitar instruction from Max Headroom, not only might it be stolen and/or AI slop, but he's giving his credit card info to a shady operator. Out of all the problems, that is indeed much more serious than wasting your time, filling your head with bunk, or even cheating a real creator.

59 Today or tomorrow I need to call the IRS to ask about the status of my tax refund for 2025. I got a letter in late May saying I'd miscalculated by quite a bit, and I've been looking for the check. (Originally I had not given them my bank info. Thinking my refund was small, I indicated on the 1040 to apply the money to my 2026 taxes. An early May letter indicated that if they did not hear from me, I would get a check in 4-6 weeks. It's been 8.)

I dread getting on the phone with them. But they say they have a call-back feature, so I could call about 2 pm and be home out of the heat anyway to wait for the return call.

If they've applied this big refund to my 2026 taxes, that'll be okay too.

Agreed! Publish or perish! And I'd question the basis of the 164 papers' selection from "dozens of leading journals in business, economics, education, political science, psychology, and sociology."

90 Even the regular science isn't replicating. The push to publish is too high in academia. There is no pressure to get anything RIGHT. All they care about is that you write papers and that your papers are cited by other scientists.

There are circles of scientists who are writing garbage papers and citing each other to push up numbers and it is terrible.

92 long ago, when I last cared about academia, the big plague (aside from Academic Chinesium) was double dipping. Groups would send the exact same paper out to four or five different pubs and swap the author list around a bit. Weee, look at our stats. Gib munnie.

Our two month long site seeing of the various Smithsonian exhibits back several years ago left us with a firm feeling that as persons-of-pallor, the Smithsonian really hated us. Everywhere we went was the same incessant drumbeat of 'whites are bad'.

Now I don't know how this works but evidently the FLRW (big bang) metric somehow states that galaxies will appear to get smaller out to a certain distance ( red shift 1.6? ) and then appear larger and larger the further away they are.

So, using publicly available data from the JWST this same guy did a study that showed they just appear smaller and smaller the further away they are.
Response from they/them? Galaxies themselves are getting smaller and smaller the further away they are.
