Saturday Night Club ONT - July 18, 2026 [Disco & Dino]

FrauncesBar.jpg

Welcome to Club ONT - a collaboration of The Disco and The Dino. We built this place for you so you can have some fun. Come in in, grab a drink or 3. Keep it light and friendly. Jerks need not enter the premises (the moose out front is keeping track and you do NOT want to disappoint the moose).

Saturday Night Jokes and Other Funnies

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it.

The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories. There were all the regular types of stuff: Spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized, that only Janie was left.

"Janie, do you have a story to share?"

"Yes ma'am. My daddy told me a story about my Mommy. She was a Marine pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife.

She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break, and then she parachuted right into the middle of 20 Iraqi troops.

She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands."

"Good Heavens," said the horrified teacher. "What did your Daddy tell you was the moral to this horrible story?"

"Don't mess with Mommy when she's been drinking."

Pole dancing accident floods two Houston apartments

A Houston woman said she is done practicing pole dancing at home after a mishap led to two apartments being flooded.

Asha Gilbert was filming her pole dancing practice July 6 at her west Houston apartment when the pole came loose from the ceiling and struck a fire sprinkler.

Gilbert said she had only installed the pole three days earlier.

"It wasn't even a thought that it could possibly hit the sprinkler," Gilbert said. "We were more worried about it hitting a wall."

She said her furniture was ruined and she had to move to another unit due to the damage. Gilbert said her downstairs neighbor was understanding about the water damage.

"I explained everything, and she was very, very cool and understanding, and I appreciated that," Gilbert said.

She said she will not be pole dancing at home anymore.

Mystery emu on the loose in Mississippi

Animal control officers are trying to find the owner of an emu on the loose in Mississippi's Pearl River County.

A witness captured video of the flightless Australian bird wandering this week near Pea Ridge Road.

Pearl River County Animal Control confirmed Wednesday that the emu remained on the loose, and its origins were unknown.

Officials are asking anyone with information on the emu's owner or current whereabouts to contact local authorities.

There is a Disney, Oklahoma? Who knew?

DisneyOK.jpg

According to the town website:

Disney is situated in northeastern Mayes County at the east end of Pensacola Dam on State Highway 28. The town is named after former Oklahoma U.S. Congressman Wesley E. Disney and has no affiliation with The Walt Disney Company or Walt Disney.

Disney is renowned worldwide for its vehicle rock climbing, off-road trails, and adventure activities. Within the city limits are five recreation areas of Cherokee State Park, offering off-road rock climbing, trails, and mudding for off-road vehicles. Visitors can also enjoy camping, swimming, picnicking, boating, fishing, skiing, and kayaking. Many off-road event attendees also spend time fishing, boating, or kayaking on the water.

41 Just made an Old Fashioned. Not bad. Main challenges are ridiculous, and trivial. Bought some measured-pour spouts (actually just wanted metal spouts to pour wine without drips, but all they had were these plastic bartender measured-pour thinggies). Probably me, but I didn't trust the "1 oz" spout, seemed like it was dispensing too much bourbon, so I sorta cut it short. But, two pours (2 oz total was goal), so poured again.

Drink seems fine, didn't short myself too much booze.

Other problem is annoying. The bitters bottle's little dispenser thinggy flings bitters wildly around when I tilt it upside down to dispense my "dashes". That stuff stains worse than fresh cherry juice, amazing. Hoping my next bottle will work normally, and as seen on TV (well, on UToob, and in bars).

56 That Lindsey Buckingham song was during his fag error. I did recognized Mick Fleetwood on drums and can plainly see why Stevie fooled around with him at one point and ticked Lindsey off.

The "black Irish" look of black hair and blue eyes was the man of my dreams when I was young. Instead the two college guys I ever loved were blondes with blue or green eyes. The green eyed guy won me over and we produced green eyed sons.

I still like men with black hair and blue eyes. Mel Gibson remains on my list, altho he needs to lose his white beard.

Apparently way back in my ancestry DNA I was an Irish lass who fell in love with a pirate on the Spanish Armada.

60 Continued from the Music thread - the Beach Boys flamed out early, it was a complicated arrangement with their father Murray, who was a bit of a whack job. Brian fired him, and learned to use the studio, and hot shot studio musicians, like an instrument.

But Brian got heavily into drugs, and wouldn’t go on tour, and got really weird. I don’t think they even hardly charted much of anything past 1966. “Good Vibrations” and “God Only Knows” were great tunes but they didn’t have another hit until “Kokomo” in what, 1977? And Brian didn’t have anything to do with that. They were scheduled I think to play the Monetary Pop Festival in ‘67 but they just weren’t considered cool any longer, and if you can’t chart a groovy tune, maybe they were right.

85 Today I bought a used ratchet fruit press. I didn't intend to buy it, but there it was at the Re-Store for less than 200. It is missing the spanners to hold it together, but everything else is there.
I no longer have to repair my cobbled together press that I have been building, incrementally, for 15 years, and now I just have to work with this one
The main drawback is that it will hold about 20 gallons of fruit pulp, instead of 5 gallons like the old press. So now the bottleneck in production is once again the grinding up of the apples.

88 Evening, ONT Horde! And Disco and Dino, of course! Having a Caesar break after mowing the south ditch. Looks good, too. Mowed around the house and shop, too. Had a big wreck. I had hitched the golf cart to my large rolling table to shift it aside to mow where it had been sitting, and got it rolling too fast, and it slammed into a metal barrel, and the discarded truck box full of scrap metal. Half the stuff on the table landed on the ground, or in the scrap metal bin. Took me several hours to get it back to Square One, LOL.

102 I loved the '70's and don't understand why carburetors are being picked on in that statement.

I loved men with beards and long hair, the beer and the music, concerts, and freedom to have fun as no one ever seemed insulted or offended. I had so much fun! Granted I also did not care if anyone was offended or notice, so there's that.

There was some trick to start cars by pouring gasoline on the carburetor, or that was what I understood as I never did it.

My bf/husband and a good friend started a girl's new car on fire this way. This is how they rescued the damsel in distress his friend had just seen in a bar, stranded in the parking lot (I was at my apt studying).

My bf said the hood paint basically melted, but that's what she gets for letting two strange college guys help her who were leaving the bar.

He drove her home and said the main person who started the car on fire was making out with her in the back seat; so all was forgiven til she had to tell her father.

We don't know the outcome of that event. Granted, John, being 1/2 Navajo and 1/2 Mexican could woo even girls he'd just set their car on fire, so there's that.

A lot of us gearheads were busting off the limiter caps, plugging the EGR, and ripping out the AIR pumps to get '70's cars into some semblance of '60's tune. You could make them run better. I never ripped out catalytic converters, though. The advent of the "cats" meant that engines could be tuned for better performance, than the non-cat engines could be. There was really no upside to ripping them out.

Quite often evidence that might lead to a conclusion that would damage either the investigating agency, or damage the reputation of the government is swept under the rug.
if the airliner was taken down by a Stinger, it brings out the question where Middle Eastern Terrorists got Stingers, and that suspicion is the ones that got misplaced when they were given to the Mujaheddin, or similar gifts to similar regional players.

They do that shit to harleys too. I can't believe the minimal amount of gas they try to run them on. In 1989 they started using CV carbs. When the bike was cold you had to leave them on choke for 5 minutes, or else they just wouldn't run. I drilled the lead plug out of one so I could get to the mixture screw. It was turned out like an 1/8 of a turn. The pipes were glowing cherry red under the shields. After I saw that I started drilling the plugs out and upping the jet sizes. Choke comes off in 30 seconds and they ran great.

He had a trial. He's been sent to prison for the rest of his life. And the media has been virtually silent about all of it. He tried to murder the guy who was once and then again became the most powerful person on the planet and the highly paid media didn't ever bother to cover it. Seems normal.

One of the reasons the deep state hated Trump in 2016 is because they wanted the war in Ukraine and Trump didn't.

We've sent somewhere around $100 billion to Ukraine and have been told there is no way to track where the money went. Ukraine is not a hot chick as Robert Palmer can attest.

But there's no telling where the money went.

172 Took my son shooting at the Beaver Dam Rock Pit this morning. I like to get there early so it's not crowded. I've shot rarely for years, but now we're spending more time at it. We still have tons to learn. Improving is fun.

I made a complicated target stand last time. I was proud of it, but it was over-engineered.This time I just brought thin 2'x3' plywood sheets and made some 10-degree cuts halfway through bits of 2x4, and that was simpler, lighter, faster, and more sturdy.

We managed to hit the plywood at 150 yards, although the paper target was nearly unscathed.

We need a better way to get feedback. I think I'll get some of those reactive targets, and maybe a spotting scope. The rifle has a 9x scope, and I have a pair of small 6x binoculars. Actually I just remembered I have some big honking 15x astronomy binoculars. Maybe those would help? But they weigh a ton and my tripod is broken.

Usually we just shoot at fixed targets and leave the shotgun at home, but I bought a plastic clay pigeon flinger, and we went through a whole box of clay pigeons (and about 150 shells). That was super fun. The shotgun magazine holds 5 shells, and I got one 5-out-of-5, and my son got a few.

177 The catalyst was necessary precisely because they had de-tuned the engines so severely. There are three components to exhaust, basically. HC, HL, and NOX. The latter is what, when exposed to sunlight, creates smog.

The problem is, when an engine is at peak efficiency and mileage, HC and HL are the lowest, but the NOX peaks. So they reduced compression, retarded valve timing, buggered the ignition timing, vacuum advance etc. it worked so far as NOX is concerned. Killed highway fuel economy and power, overheating, etc. Right in the middle of an Oil Embargo and high inflation and gas rationing.

But yeah, by lowering NOX, HC spiked, literally raw fuel was now spewing out the tailpipe. What to do?

That’s what the air injection pump was for, to couple with the platinum exhaust catalyst and burn the wasted fuel in the tailpipe.

There’s no benefit engine wise to a catalytic converter, and they tend to cause a restriction when they get loaded up and plugged.

The retarded valve timing was particularly egregious because it wasn’t so easily remedied. And when engines got some miles on them, the timing chain tends to loosen, retarding it even further.

197 Buckingham is a pretty decent guitar player. He’s a big reason the 70s era Mac has the best selling, or one of the best selling albums of all time.

“Never Going Back Again” is fun to play on the guitar, or try to anyhow. I sure as hell can’t play it at tempo. I bought a couple of his solo albums in the 90s and he is a perfectionist in the studio in terms of sonics, they really sounded great. Rumors was recorded pretty well too. Still could never understand what the hell Stevie Nicks was saying. But at the time I didn’t care.

Modern gas and Carbureted engines will boil off the lighter end volatiles in the bowl fairly quickly on shutdown, and over time, say a week, making the engine hard to start. It’s deceptive because the fuel bowl has fuel in it, but it’s stale.

Pouring a small amount of fresh fuel down the carb throat does work, maybe a tablespoon. It will start as normal. Always replace the air cleaner though, before cranking the engine over!

240 Went to a memorial service today for a friend of my Dad's, of our family, lawyer. Held at the church I attended as a yout' back in the long-ago. Place looks the same. Some changes in ceremony and staff ♀.

Hadn't tried on my funeral suit since Mom's funeral several years back. As expected, it didn't fit. My body has had some changes. The dress shoes fit, anyway. For those who judge you by the shoes.

I even took communion. Remarkably, I did not burst into flame.

The Houthis and Hezbollah haven’t been able to resupply. No doubt they still have some things hidden away, but they’re both at only a small fraction of the strength they had two years ago.

Especially the Houthi - they’re not an industrialized society, the only weapons they have are what Iran sends them, and that pipeline has been shut down for a while now.

The funny part is that during the last Dust Up, Israeli intelligence learned of a “secret” all hands on deck meeting of the Houthi leadership, and they hit it. They killed the president, the defense minister, almost all of the various cabinet ministers, and most of the top military generals all at the same time.

And you’ve probably never seen a word about that in any mainstream media.

316 313 Theory I saw the other day:

Someone claimed Tolkien's hobbits were anarchists (obviously they weren't... they had mayors and gentry and so on).

Someone else noted that the hobbits engaged in a complex covert mission to make sure a pro-hobbit King was installed in Gondor.

Hobbits aren't anarchists. Hobbits are the CIA.

318 Gasoline is different today, they don’t need to worry about vapor pressure index now that fuel injection rules.

Posted by: Common Tater at July 19, 2026 12:30 AM (WcNzu)

Yeah my '69 roadrunner is a wee bit of a bitch to start when it sits for some weeks. It always starts eventually, but not instantly after sitting for a month or so. It will take about 5-6 cranking sessions for about 5-10 seconds each and a lot of pumping the gas.The harley's on the other hand start instantly after sitting for 4-5 months, and thats because I can shut the fuel off to run it dry, so when its time to start them I turn the gas on and it gets a clean shot of gas. I usually will drain the gas at that time and put fresh gas in, but they always start right up.

Reading about the X-15, I got off on the tangent of the official definition of "space", the altitude above which one can be said to have been in space, and qualify for astronaut wings/status.

The Air Force defined that originally as 50 miles. The Karman line is sort of the internationally defined boundary, at 100km or 62 miles. But for the US, military and NASA, 50 miles remains the standard. With commercial crews, it's a bit more ambiguous, but 50 miles sort of applies.

But, after Bezos' Penis Rocket up and down thing, they've revised the rules. So, thankfully Katy Perry and Gayle King will not qualify for astronaut status at all.

Well, I presume the Harleys have gravity feed from the tank. Open the fuel petcock, and the carburetor fills right away. Your Roadrunner has a 4-barrel carb sitting right on top of the engine, which was hot when you parked it, so most of the gas in the carb, and maybe some in the lines and fuel pump boiled off, and some of the rest evaporated. So you have to crank and crank to make that pump suck up gas from the tank and fill the carb. My old driver cars have electric fuel pumps down by the tank, and the mechanical fuel pump bypassed.

Right after JFK, Jr killed his fool self, and his wife and her two sisters, Rush Limbaugh told a story about that. One of his buddies that used to fly around with him a lot on EIB One, refused to believe he could lose his sense of up and down and all that. Just couldn't believe anyone could do the "controlled flight into terrain (or water)" thing.

Rush's pilot did a demonstration. He put the guy in the jumpseat in the cockpit. He let him look out the windshield. Ok, you see we're level right, clear sky. See the stars? Ok.

He then executed some maneuvers. Nothing too aggressive, just the kind the pilot knew well would be the ones that easily disrupt the vestibular system.

He then stopped the accelerations and turns and asked the guy, okay, what's our orientation and attitude?

Guy said we're in a climb, nose pointed up right at a star there.

Pilot said nope, we're in a slight dive, and headed straight toward the ocean. That star you see is the lights of a ship.

Right, this is where a tablespoon of fresh gas down the carb avoids all that. Vroom!

Engine starters have a duty cycle, i think a 5
second crank is probably 15 minutes or something like that. I dislike abusing the battery, starter and relays, charging system …

When you hear people cranking over an engine for 30 second bursts over snd over, that fucker is toast. Not right away maybe. It burns all the winding insulation off the starter, road spray and salt does the rest. They core it at the auto parts store, who sends it off somewhere, and they don’t do shit to it except slap a coat of paint on it for the most part.

Your vestibular system senses acceleration and changes in acceleration (jerk). Those little accelerometers in your inner ear are telling you which way down is. Move your head all around, and that direction changes. It tells your brain how your head (and body, via other inputs) is oriented relative to gravity.

Now, add other accelerations to that, and it gets a bit more complex but still the same principle.

You can also sense rotation, and that is a bit more complicated, and depends on sensing jerk, at least the directional change in acceleration. But it's only a temporary thing, that depends of the viscous nature of the fluid in your inner ears moving around and stimulating these little "hairs" on some cells.

Once that fluid equilibriates under steady rotation, which takes maybe 20 seconds, you lose that sense, and you're back to the pure linear acceleration sensing.

Close your eyes in say a swivel chair, and pick your feet up. Let someone rotate you. At first, you'll sense which way you're rotated, and pretty much how far. Yep, he turned me about 90 degrees to the left.

Now, get in a steady spin. After about 20 seconds, everything will settle in and catch up. You no longer sense any rotation, and you'll have no idea where you're pointed when you stop.

And when you stop, you'll be stumbling dizzy for another 20 seconds or better. Once you stop, that "jerk" system kicks in again, and your brain thinks it's rotating in the opposite direction. You're not, and that's why you're stumbling dizzy and can't maintain your balance.

1999 Martha's Vineyard plane crash (Wikipedia)

The official investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded that Kennedy fell victim to spatial disorientation while descending over water at night and lost control of his plane.

Kennedy did not hold an instrument rating and therefore he was only certified to fly under visual flight rules (VFR).

At the time of Kennedy's death, the weather and light conditions were such that all basic landmarks were obscured, making visual flight challenging, although legally still permissible.

In the banking turn, you're falling a little bit, losing altitude, because your wings are rolled, and some of the lift is turning you. His trajectory was a helical path, slowing spiraling into the drink. Going around in circles, while descending.

At some point, he probably realized he was loosing altitude. Don't know if the plane had any alarm about that or not. Now, he thought we flying level, so losing altitude means "pull your nose up".

Do that in that banking turn, and you just tighten the turn, increasing the descent rate. Panicking, you pull back the stick even more, and start pulling high g's and totally lose all senses and hit the drink at high speed.

382 Biden's Dog I bet that James Talerico has that magazine cover framed and hanging in his bedroom above the shelf holding his stuffed animal collection on the ceiling.

I should have known better. Fake. But this is real - from Grok:

The featured cover is fake, but it references a real Australian Men's Health article titled "Elliot Page’s Washboard Abs Are A Major Moment," which discusses Page's recent shirtless photos and boxing training.

384 It's (supposedly) a free country...

Ellen is free to pretend she's a man, and call herself "Elliot."

I am free to not entertain her delusion.

I remember watching the nooz with Mom, after "John-john" crashed... ugh. Talk about a hagiography!

Love ya, Mom! RIP

I bet you and your mom loved President Clinton's (at the time) decision to send -- who was it, the damned Air Force? -- to look for his plane because the Kennedy family had done so much more for America than other families and their service to America was so exceptional and their family was so much better than yours.

RIP mom!

386 He was warned not to do it, too. Hell, a real experienced pilot even offered to ride along with him in case anything got out of hand. John John refused.

It was just stupid arrogance.

..and he went into the water like a frigging dart.

387 Yes, Blondie (Hi!)

Mom was *livid* that junior was sofa king special that we wasted military resources for his privileged little CIVILIAN ass.
