CNBC: Here Are The Ten Worst States to Live In or Start a Business In. They're All, Get This, the Red States Experiencing The Highest In-Migration.

You will not be surprised to learn that one of CNBC's main criteria for deeming a state the "worst" to live in is whether they... allow transexuals in opposite-sex bathrooms.

Bennett's Phylactery
@extradeadjcb

Reasons states wind up on this list (not exaggerating)

1. Not enough abortions
2. Not gay enough
3. "food insecurity"
4. Not enough HR rules
5. Not enough gun laws
6. Not enough therapists
7. Not enough working moms
8. Not enough affirmative action

Colin Wright
@SwipeWright

Here are the reasons CNBC ranked Tennessee as "America's Worst Place to Live in 2026."

1. Laws require people to use facilities matching their sex.
2. Localities can't create laws circumventing 1.
3. The Governor designated June "Nuclear Family Month."
4. TN isn't "inclusive," meaning the state knows that men who claim to be women aren't women and should not be treated as such.

Do these sound like negatives to you?

I moved from California to Tennessee in 2022 and it was probably the best decision I've ever made. I love it here.

Chris Queen, PJMedia:

Other than crime rates, which most often occur in red-state cities, which are the bluest areas of said states, the criteria for "quality of life" that CNBC uses are woke as a joke. Environmentalism, free healthcare, unions, and prioritizing the rainbow are what CNBC looked at.

Here are some samples from the report. From the intro:

To score the states for quality of life, we use hard data on factors like crime rates, air quality, and healthcare. We also consider the cost and availability of childcare, inclusiveness of state laws, and reproductive rights. Some states offer exemplary quality of life. But these ten states do not make the grade.

So, abortion, trannies, and DEI. Got it.

For some reason, most people seem to think that states are better off without this agenda.

I have to show you the whole blurb for my home state of Georgia. The wokesters gave us a grade of F, so be proud, Georgians!

Georgia offers few protections for LGBTQ+ people, making it one of America's least inclusive states.

"Georgia still remains a state where there is no place for hate, and I can assure all Georgians of that today," Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said in April, when he signed a bill aimed at protecting religious freedom.

But critics feared the law could be used to permit other types of discrimination, especially because Georgia is another of the five states with no public accommodation law protecting non-disabled people.

The Peach State offers minimal worker protections, particularly when it comes to the right to organize.

Side note: If you're wanting to move from a blue state to the Peach State, don't. We full.

Who's number one in the woke CNBC's ideological penalty box? The Volunteer State. Tennessee dares to offer counterprogramming to Pride Month (GASP)!

Tennessee Republicans, led by Gov. Bill Lee, make no apologies for a rash of state laws targeting the LGBTQ+ community, including a so-called "bathroom law" requiring transgender people to use the facilities designated for their sex at birth. The state also explicitly bars localities from adopting their own antidiscrimination ordinances. To underscore the point, Lee signed a resolution earlier this year designating June "Nuclear Family Month."

"The nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God's design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world," the resolution states.

Its sponsors deliberately timed the observance to coincide with the month when Tennessee's more than 300,000 LGBTQ+ people celebrate Pride.

I can see this being important if you're a tranny, but what about the other 99% of the population?

Oh right -- normal people just don't count.

The list garnered rich Corinthian mockery.

CNBC faced a wave of online mockery Monday after releasing its annual quality-of-life rankings, which exclusively placed conservative red states in all 10 spots of the "worst places to live" -- even as official U.S. Census data shows some of those states are leading the nation in population growth.

Critics quickly took to social media to call out the outlet for what they alleged as blatant liberal bias embedded in its ranking criteria.

Counting down from the tenth-worst place to the first, CNBC ranked the bottom ten states as Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Missouri, Utah, Georgia, Louisiana, Indiana, Texas, and Tennessee.

All 10 states are Republican-led and voted for President Donald Trump in 2024.

...

The metric also factors heavily in ideological policies, explicitly penalizing states for lack of protections against discrimination and restrictive abortion laws.

...

"CNBC just dropped their 2026 '10 Worst States to Live In' list ... and it's pure comedy," conservative commentator Reverend Jordan Wells wrote on X.

...

The corporate media outlet took direct shots at local conservative legislation across the board.

Tennessee was dinged for the state's "bathroom law" -- which requires transgender individuals to use facilities corresponding with their biological sex at birth -- as well as a law barring localities from passing their own local antidiscrimination ordinances.

...

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom immediately seized on the study, taking to X to point out that every single state on the list leaned red.

"Notice something in common?" Newsom posted.

"All led by Republicans -- many suffering from California Derangement Syndrome."

However, conservatives and independent commentators noted that everyday Americans are "voting with their feet" against progressive governance.

...

"Actually I noticed something else: The list is a bulls--t list that has nothing to do with quality of life for sane people," countered conservative activist Robby Starbuck, a Tennessee resident. Starbuck, known for successfully leading major corporate boycotts against over-the-top DEI policies, added, "It's all predicated on far left BS... Our states all gained population while YOUR state lost a record amount."

Media personality Patrick Bet-David cited the net migration gains of the states CNBC criticized, noting that Texas added over 67,000 residents and Tennessee added over 42,000.

Crime stats out of most big cities are as fake as the USSR's crop reports. Nothing but the biggest crimes get timely police attention, so the locals learn smaller crimes aren't worth reporting. We also have recent proof of police leadership in places like DC leaning on first responder officers to downgrade serious crimes in their reports. Lots of cities stopped reporting their stats to the FBI, too.

They just want to get their Moloch on. Having been more or less born into the pro-life movement, and moving ever closer to abolitionism, it's really amazing how the arguments are every bit as wicked and hollow then as they are now. You should check out the vids Abolitionists Rising puts out with their street encounters. And it's interesting to see that while their interactions vary from the merely vapid and programmed to the true believer, the arguments from the pro-abortion crowd are the same empty NOW/Planned Parenthood scripted lines as they were in the 80s.

Oh it's still going on. It's a propaganda point being pushed to young women who are mindlessly repeating it. You'll hear it almost every time you listen to the "Whatever" podcast (not from the host, from the guests). I think it's a deliberate effort to distract from and obfuscate actual grooming of kids who don't know (or shouldn't know) anything about sex, introducing them to increasingly intense and explicit materials, creating trust and dependence, tearing down boundaries that should be in place, treating the kid as "special" and that only the grooming adult can be trusted to understand, etc etc. All the classic child abuse tactics, which are now established curriculum and school operation policies in some places.

244 Wow, I thought Japan was above this. A Korean YouTuber exposed a restaurant for having two different menus. One in English, one in Japanese. The Japanese version lists prices 50% less than the English version.

I knew this was common in other Asian countries, but Japan is supposed to be more honorable and upscale.

___________

This is common and not necessarily unfair. The menus are often NOT the same. The English versions of the food usually are bigger portions -- because westerners eat bigger portions -- and different ingredients.

I think you'd have to order both sets of food and see how they stack up before making a determination whether this is fair or not.

No property; all income; zero deductions or credits for anyone, business or personal.

I can't adjust the value of my property--but counties can and do, especially when they need to raise more revenue.

But I can adjust my income.

"Grok: Rank the cities/states/countries on criteria X, Y and Z, then write a folksy introduction and summary in 500 words or less. if you can add an example attractive photo for the Best and a dystopian photo of the least."

Some passing motorists informed my wife she was standing about 50' from one last week when she was taking the dog out to pee. It wandered all the way through town to the river and they lost it. 327 Take a look at Cohn's other article lists. This is his schtick. He picks the criteria to form his lists based on his own values (which, arguably, require work).

He did a list of the best State economies and listed California, New York, and Minnesota near the very top of the list. California has $1.3 Trillion debt. New York has $2.33 Billion debt. Minnesota has $8.54 Billion debt. All three of these states are losing taxpayers inclusive of high value commercial businesses and high income earners.

Yet, somehow, to Cohn, NY, CA and MN are great places to do business.

Posted by: Orson at July 14, 2026 01:14 PM (dIske)

328 I read a study about taxes by state. And the conclusion was most states tax in pretty narrow narrow band. They looked at the 4 major taxes: income, sales, property, fuel.

And then looked at the median income earner in each state and the % of income paid via those 4 taxes.

The 10 highest states had an average of 11.5% of income paid. The bottom 10 had an average of 6.5%.

High tax states aren’t that high and low tax states aren’t that low for the median income worker. They all tax in the same general neighborhood. Where it gets to the extremes is for high income people. California fucks you good and hard if you make $500k or more whereas TN or NV with no income tax, obviously does not.

A Hawaiian judge declared those laws inoperative because it could hurt Elon. So a lot of companies, including left-leaning ones, have been re-incorporating outside of Delaware.

Because it could *help Elon?

The Hawaiian judge was operating from a Delaware courthouse. Killing the only reason why Delaware even exists. We should help Delaware out by declaring it a territory and housing all illegals there in prep for their deportation. That should depopulate the state fairly quickly and it could return to a state of nature that enviromentalists would love.Make Delaware Useful Again!

We're trying to leave Mass but the housing market seems to be cratering. Can't even get anyone to come look at our nicely updated home, even after we significantly lowered the price. I guess we waited a little too long -- should have left two years ago (at least).

That’s too bad. I think it depends how far you are from Boston. I was only 35 mins out of Boston directly west. I had a tiny (<1000 sq ft + 250 finished basement with only 1 bath) 50 yr old house but in a nice town. I made a boat load on it with a bidding war. All my sons had left Mass and I only have 1 sibling left in CT, who’s going south once retirement is reached. There was nothing keeping me there, especially since I couldn’t get a job. I miss New England but not all the crazy Karens who were driving around with masks on in their cars.

I live in the deep, Deep South and never have I heard anyone say anything close to this. In fact, when I had to live in NJ (sorry NJ peeps) for 2 years, it was shocking to me how openly racist many people were.

To be honest, this type of thing would be frowned upon and the person saying it taken to task here. I am not saying we don’t have people who are racist, every place does, I suppose. But I assure you, race relations here are far better than many places.

NJ has a lot of little ethnic enclaves, still, like NYC used to and I think Long Island still does. If you live in Little Italy all your life, especially if you're old and remember life before the Internet, you just didn't see many nonItalians outside of work. Diversity was when you mingled with the Irish after Mass.

339 The real question is:
WHO is leaving?
Business owners?
Taxpayers?
Homeless?
Illegal aliens (pardon the h8 crime of stating the plain truth)
I lived near Charlotte, NC in 2008. After the banking debacle, construction cratered, and MANY illegal aliens left, with their families. Suddenly, school enrollment dropped like a rock, as did crime.
Neither change was a bad thing.
